The morning mist had mostly cleared by then. Lulled by the cold breeze blowing through the bus window, Megha was sleeping soundly, her head resting peacefully on Aryan's shoulder.
Suddenly, a loud bang shattered the quiet! The entire bus jolted violently before tilting to one side of the road. Panic and confusion instantly erupted inside the bus. Jolted awake, Megha gasped and instinctively gripped Aryan's hand tight.
The driver stopped the vehicle and stepped down with a grim face. After inspecting the damage for a moment, he sighed and said, "Mr. Sen, we have a problem. One of the rear tires is completely punctured. It will take at least thirty to forty minutes to change the tire on this empty stretch of road."
Mr. Sen rubbed his forehead in thought. Then, turning to the students, he announced, "Listen up, everyone. It's going to take some time to fix the tire. You can all step outside and stretch your legs, but be careful! Don't wander off too far along the road. The moment the driver says so, you need to get back on board quickly."
Everyone scrambled out of the bus and gathered in the open space by the roadside. It was a rustic village road, flanked by vibrant green paddy fields and dotted with massive, ancient banyan and peepal trees.
Aryan noticed that the remnants of sleep—and a hint of fear—were still lingering on Megha's face. Smirking slightly, he gently nudged her shoulder and teased, "What's wrong, got scared? You were sleeping so peacefully... I think the tire just couldn't handle your snoring and finally burst!"
Megha glared at him and gave his arm a light pinch. "Stop talking nonsense! I wasn't sleeping, I was just resting my eyes and listening to music."
Seeing their playful banter, a few nearby friends burst into laughter. But even amidst the crowd, Aryan and Megha managed to find a quiet corner just for themselves. They stood under an old Bakul tree by the road. A gentle breeze was blowing, and the sweet fragrance of fallen Bakul flowers covering the ground made the atmosphere feel incredibly magical.
Megha pulled her notebook out of her bag and showed it to Aryan. "You know, Aryan, if it weren't for this tour, we'd probably still be drowning in the pressure of studies and exams. Just look at how clear the sky is!"
Aryan looked deeply into her eyes. A soft ray of sunlight fell across Megha's face, making her look uniquely beautiful. Aryan said in a low voice, "True. I almost wish the bus takes a little longer to fix... just so this moment could last a bit longer."
Megha smiled shyly. Suddenly, a strange wild vine by the road caught her attention. Fascinated, she started sketching it in her notebook, while Aryan watched her, completely mesmerized. Their silent, gentle romance seemed to blend perfectly with the surrounding nature.
Just then, the driver's voice echoed, "The bus is ready! Everyone, get back on quickly!"
Mr. Sen hurriedly ushered everyone back inside. As Megha shoved her notebook into her bag and ran towards the bus, she almost tripped. Aryan caught her hand just in time. Once they were back in their seats, Megha whispered, "Thanks." Aryan simply smiled.
The bus resumed its steady rhythm. About an hour later, they finally reached the famous Botanical Garden. As the bus halted near the massive gates, Mr. Sen announced, "Alright, everyone, time to get down. Take your practical boxes and notebooks with you. Remember, we aren't just here to sightsee; we are here to learn."
Upon entering the garden, the deep shade of towering ancient trees welcomed them. Mr. Sen gathered everyone under a massive banyan tree. He instructed, "It's almost noon. I want you all to wander around nearby and observe the flora. If you spot any unusual or new plant species, note it down. At 1:00 PM, we will all head to the hostel for lunch. The real practical work will begin in the afternoon after we've eaten."
With excited chatter, the students scattered in different directions. Aryan and Megha, sticking close together, stepped forward into the depths of the forest, ready for a mysterious adventure.
