"...You know about these Gold Coins?"
Su Mu was slightly startled, his tone tinged with surprise. He had originally thought Gold Coins were a currency exclusive to the Apartment System; he hadn't expected them to be linked to the Hero system of this world.
"You are a Hero, yet you don't know about this?"
Yuigahama Misaki looked at Su Mu with a hint of confusion and curiosity in her eyes. Beside her, Yui also looked up, following her mother's gaze.
"A Hero... I'm not one yet," Su Mu replied honestly after a moment of thought. "But I did receive a prompt telling me to register with the Hero Association as soon as possible."
"I see."
Misaki came to a realization and couldn't help but study Su Mu closely. The youth before her looked very young, with clean features and a gentle temperament. He didn't look at all like those rugged, battle-hardened heroes who fought monsters year-round.
Recalling the birthday cake from earlier, she secretly speculated—this gentleman must have just come of age and recently awakened his talent. Since he hadn't had time to register with the Hero Association, he was unaware of such basic information.
She didn't know that the reason Su Mu was ignorant of these things was that he had only been in this world for three days.
During the first two nights, because the apartment's level hadn't been upgraded, there was no water, electricity, or internet. He had barely scraped by on the apartment's emergency food supplies. After the level increased today, he had been busy researching his new permissions and hadn't had a chance to check the TV or the internet.
As for March 7th, although she had used the computer, she had been glued to single-player games and naturally hadn't paid attention to outside news.
Though Misaki had her doubts, she was sensible enough not to pry. She continued her explanation: "The 'monsters' you mentioned are a general term used by the Hero Association for creatures that threaten humanity. Humanoids are called 'Mysterious Beings,' beast-types are called 'Monsters,' and others are generally referred to as 'Creatures.' When a Hero kills these monsters, they not only receive Gold Coins as a reward but also accumulate experience to increase their level."
"I see." Su Mu nodded, then pressed further: "So, when one awakens their talent to become a Hero, does a system notification panel appear? And after awakening, can they see their own attribute panel and level up by killing monsters?"
"Yes, according to public information, that is exactly how it works." Misaki nodded affirmatively. Then, a look of distress crossed her face, and she instinctively gripped Yui's hand. "But Gold Coins are only obtainable and tradable by Heroes. We are just ordinary civilians... If the rent must be paid in Gold Coins, we might..."
Su Mu didn't respond immediately; instead, he fell into deep thought.
If what Misaki said was true, then the earlier prompt about awakening talent wasn't a feature of the Apartment System, but a rule of this world itself. Yet, the way the rules were presented was almost identical to the Apartment System's notification panels.
Could it be... that this Goddess Apartment was originally a product of this world?
"Husband, I found it!"
While Su Mu was pondering, March 7th had already run to the computer. She tapped the keyboard rapidly and shouted excitedly: "There's tons of info online about Heroes and monsters, just like this lady said! There's even data on a lot of familiar Heroes and monsters!"
Through shared vision, Su Mu instantly browsed the information March 7th had found—the Hero Association's rating system, the classification of monster levels, the reward mechanism for kills... There were even names of Heroes and monsters from various anime series in his memory.
It seemed this was indeed a crossover world, but it wasn't a simple, direct stitching of multiple anime worlds. Perhaps it started that way, but over a long period of evolution, the rules of each world had merged to form a brand-new, self-consistent world-building.
However, the core rule of "killing monsters to level up" had likely been integrated into the basic settings of this world from the very beginning.
Setting aside these deeper thoughts for now, Su Mu refocused on the Yuigahama mother and daughter. The immediate priority was to resolve their residency.
"You don't need to worry too much about the Gold Coins." Su Mu looked at Misaki's worried expression and spoke gently: "As long as you become tenants of this apartment, you will gain the same permissions as Heroes—you can obtain Gold Coins and experience by killing monsters. Although you are ordinary people now, according to the data, the weakest monsters are not much stronger than an average adult. As long as you familiarize yourselves with some basic combat techniques and use the right tools, killing them won't be difficult."
He paused and softened his tone: "So, are you willing to stay here? It's alright if you aren't; I can let you stay for a few days to recover your spirits, and then..."
"We're willing! We want to stay here!"
Before Su Mu could finish, Yuigahama Misaki blurted out her response. Her tone was urgent as she tightly gripped Yui's hand, terrified that they might be kicked out if she waited even a second. "We have nowhere else to go but here. As long as we can stay, we will definitely work hard to earn Gold Coins and pay the rent!"
Yui also nodded vigorously, her eyes filled with both pleading and determination.
"Alright." Su Mu smiled warmly and nodded. "In that case, accept the residency."
With a flick of his finger, he used his administrator permissions to send formal invitations to Misaki and Yui.
A pale blue light screen expanded before the mother and daughter. It contained only a few simple rules: whether to confirm becoming a tenant of the Goddess Apartment, that they could not leave after moving in, and that they must not disclose information about the apartment.
A flash of surprise crossed Misaki's clear eyes, and her long lashes trembled slightly. However, she quickly relaxed her brow and chose to accept immediately. She turned to Yui, her warm palm gently stroking her daughter's head. Her voice was soft yet firm: "Yui, this will be our new home from now on. Remember to follow the rules and stay here well."
Yui nodded obediently, hugging her mother's arm. "Mhm, I understand, Mom."
The moment Misaki confirmed her residency, a pale blue semi-transparent notification box popped up in front of Su Mu without warning. The familiar system prompt appeared once more.
[Target (Yuigahama Misaki) has officially become a tenant of the Goddess Apartment. A (Favorability) attribute has been added to the personal status bar. When a tenant's Favorability is ≥ 50, the Administrator may hire them as an apartment employee.]
"Favorability?"
Su Mu raised an eyebrow, his fingers unconsciously stroking his chin. He couldn't help but complain inwardly: Are you sure this is a setting for a proper apartment? No matter how I look at it, this seems like some kind of weird dating sim.
Complaints aside, he opened the status panels of the mother and daughter to check their initial Favorability.
[Yuigahama Misaki, Lv.0 (Favorability: 32)] [Yuigahama Yui, Lv.0 (Favorability: 25)]
"The difference in favorability is quite clear."
Su Mu murmured softly. His gaze moved past the panels to the mother and daughter, who were leaning against each other with expressions of relief. A gentle curve tugged at the corner of his mouth.
