They moved forward.
Not because the path was clear—But because stopping no longer meant safety.
The void behind them had quieted, its presence receding like a tide that had decided—for now—not to return. Yet Kaizen could still feel it, faint and distant, like something watching from a place that didn't belong to distance at all.
Ahead—The system began to return...Slowly...Cautiously.
Lines of light reappeared beneath their feet, forming unstable patterns that flickered in and out of alignment. It was no longer the perfect structure they had seen before.
Now,--It hesitated.
"…It's different," Kaizen said quietly.
Aeris walked beside him, her gaze scanning the re-forming grid.
"…It's adapting to something it doesn't understand."
"…That's new."
"…Yes."
The goblin stepped ahead of them....Its movements unchanged.
"…More."
Kaizen sighed lightly.
"…Of course."
But even it—Had slowed.
Just slightly.
As if the system's hesitation had introduced something unfamiliar into its calculations.
Uncertainty.
They walked in silence for a while...Not tense...Not calm...Something in between.
The kind of quiet that comes after surviving something you can't fully explain.
Kaizen finally spoke.
"…That thing back there…"
Aeris didn't look at him.
"…It wasn't part of the system."
"…Yeah, I figured that much."
A pause.
"…So what was it?"
Aeris exhaled slowly.
"…Something that exists outside interpretation."
Kaizen frowned.
"…Meaning?"
"…Meaning even I don't understand it."
That—Was new...He glanced at her.
"…You don't like that."
A faint, almost tired smile.
"…No."
A pause.
"…But I'm starting to accept it."
The goblin stopped...Suddenly.
Kaizen nearly collided into it again.
"…What now?"
The goblin didn't answer...It was looking ahead.
At something—That shouldn't be there.
The system ahead of them had formed into a large open plane, its structure stable again—but at the center of it…
There was a circle.
Perfect...Unbroken...Dark...No light...No pattern...No system.
Aeris froze.
"…No…"
Kaizen's eyes narrowed.
"…You've seen this before."
She nodded slowly.
"…Not here."
A pause.
"…But I know what it means."
The goblin stepped closer.
"…What."
Aeris swallowed slightly.
"…It's a boundary."
Kaizen crossed his arms slightly.
"…Between what?"
Her answer came quietly.
"…Between what the system can process… and what it can't."
Silence.
The goblin moved forward...Naturally...Inevitably.
"…More."
Kaizen shook his head.
"…Yeah, yeah."
He followed.
Aeris hesitated—Then stepped with them.
As they approached the circle, the system around it began to react.
Not aggressively...Not defensively...But… cautiously.
The grid pulled back slightly, leaving a clear, untouched space around the dark shape.
Like it was avoiding it.
"…That's not reassuring," Kaizen muttered.
The goblin reached the edge first...It stopped...Looked down.
"…Nothing."
Aeris stepped beside it.
Her voice barely above a whisper.
"…No."
A pause.
"…Everything."
Kaizen joined them.
He looked down into the circle...And for a moment—He saw nothing...Just darkness...Flat...Empty.
Then—It looked back...Not visually...Not physically...But undeniably.
Kaizen stepped back instinctively.
"…Okay, that's not normal."
The goblin didn't move.
"…More."
Aeris reached out quickly—Grabbing its arm.
"…Wait."
The goblin turned its head slightly.
"…Why."
Aeris's expression tightened.
"…Because this isn't something you can just adapt to."
The goblin's eyes flickered.
"…Then learn."
Kaizen stepped forward.
"…She's right."
A pause.
"…We don't rush into something we don't understand."
The goblin looked at him.
Then back at the circle.
"…You delay."
Kaizen smirked faintly.
"…I survive."
A brief silence.
Then—The circle moved...Not outward...Not upward...Inward.
The darkness deepened, pulling itself into a point that shouldn't exist.
The edges remained perfectly still—but the center…
Collapsed...And from that collapse—
A voice emerged.
Not like the others...Not layered...Not controlled...Raw...Ancient.
"…You stand at the edge…"
Aeris froze.
"…No…"
The voice continued.
"…Of what you are not meant to cross."
Kaizen's expression hardened.
"…We've heard that before."
The goblin stepped forward.
"…More."
The darkness pulsed....Stronger.
"…And yet… you remain incomplete."
Kaizen's grip tightened.
"…You keep saying that like it means something."
A pause.
Then—"…It means you are still bound."
Silence...Heavy...The goblin spoke.
"…Break."
The voice responded instantly.
"…Then step forward."
Aeris's hand tightened on the goblin's arm.
"…Don't."
The goblin didn't move...But it didn't step back either.
Kaizen looked between them....Then at the circle.
"…If this is a boundary…"
A pause.
"…Then something's on the other side."
The voice answered.
"…Yes."
Aeris shook her head.
"…No, this is wrong."
Kaizen glanced at her.
"…Why?"
Her voice dropped.
"…Because the system doesn't create boundaries like this."
A pause.
"…It avoids them."
That changed everything.
Kaizen looked back at the circle.
Longer this time.
"…So this wasn't made by the system."
The goblin spoke.
"…Other."
The voice responded.
"…Correct."
Silence.
Kaizen exhaled slowly.
"…Then we're back to the same question."
A pause.
"…What happens if we cross?"
The darkness shifted....Deeper...Colder.
"…You will no longer be what you are."
The goblin's eyes glowed faintly.
"…More."
Aeris stepped in front of it... Blocking its path.
"…No."
Her voice—Firm.
For the first time.
"…Not like this."
The goblin looked at her.
"…Why."
Aeris met its gaze.
"…Because there's no coming back."
Kaizen watched her.
Something in her tone—Was different...Not fear....Not uncertainty...Experience.
"…You've seen this before," he said quietly.
She didn't answer immediately.
Then— "…Yes."
Silence fell again.
The circle pulsed once more
Waiting....Inviting...Demanding.
The goblin stepped forward—Again.
Aeris didn't move this time.
Didn't stop it....Didn't speak...Because she knew—It wouldn't matter.
Kaizen stepped beside it.
"…If you go in…"
A pause.
"…I'm not letting you go alone."
The goblin glanced at him.
"…Choice."
Kaizen smirked faintly.
"…Yeah."
A brief silence.
Then—He looked at Aeris.
"…You coming?"
She hesitated.
Just for a second.
Then stepped forward.
"…I don't think I can stop you."
A pause.
"…So I'll make sure you don't disappear."
That was enough....The three of them stood at the edge...The boundary.
The unknown....The point of no return.
The darkness pulsed—Once...Twice.
Then—It opened...Not outward....Not inward...Through...A passage...A path....A decision.
The goblin moved first.
Of course it did.
Kaizen followed.
Aeris right behind him.
And as they crossed—
The system behind them—Went silent...Completely.
As if they had just stepped outside of everything it could ever reach.
....
If crossing this line means losing what they were—what will they become on the other side…?
Will they even remain the same?
....
