"Not at all," I said, setting my mug down with a soft click. "Hasn't she always made people fight her? It's what she does."
"That's not the point," she insisted, leaning forward. "The point is what we're supposed to do now. With her... with all of them. I can't believe I actually kicked somebody in the face like that. It's going to get so much worse."
"Stay out of things you can't handle, pinky," I warned her. "This isn't exactly something between a bunch of little kids."
"I'm trying to help you here!" she pleaded with me. "We can't do this alone. We're both cowards, Melody! We always have been!"
I scoffed. "Speak for yourself."
"No, you too!" she shot back, her frustration overriding her fear. "You're a coward when it comes to Fauna and you know it. You let her walk all over you for years because you were scared of what she'd do if you really fought back."
My jaw tightened. Even if she was correct, how dare she say it out loud?
