Looking at it, Neves looked beside him and said:
"System," calling out to see his status window.
After saying so, no blue panel greeted him or anything like those effects.
Darkness was the only thing there, with occasional noises from the horses.
"This system is too much of a problem..." He muttered, standing up and taking a bucket of water outside the stable and going back to his « room » he lives in.
After spending over a month living here, Neves learned how to appreciate getting clean water this late at night.
Though it was only nearing eight, this time around had people already sleeping, something he can't get used to.
Grabbing a small towel and dampening it in the water, he started wiping the dirt off his body — as this was the only way for him to clean himself.
After cleaning most of his body up, he took the clothes he put aside and washed them too.
As they were the only things he had to use.
"By tomorrow that would be dry enough," he smiled, thankful for that.
Laying back on his straw bed in his boxers only, he looked up to the ceiling and said to himself:
"Just a bit more, you'll eventually leave this place."
Then, a blue panel appeared beside him.
Seeing the room light up thanks to its illumination, he smiled and looked at the devastating system of his.
[ Status. ]
Name:
Level: —
Class: Unavailable.
Stats: ??? Not available at the moment.
Skills: Nothing.
Titles: ? Impossible to have.
Talent:
Energy left: 9.34%.
Looking at it, Neves could not help but smile at it.
Em dash, blank, nothing, impossible to have, not available, and even question marks.
That was not something you would want to see in your status window, yet here he was — looking at his status with all of them together.
"I can't even call this a system window at all, at this point it's basically a free lamp that takes over an hour to light up."
Sighing, he pulled out the mana crystal he left earlier, and fed it to the system, giving it a bit more energy.
[ System energy increases: 9.34% to 11.02%. ]
Looking at the small increase in the energy of his system, he sighed in relief.
Life in this world has been rough, but now better, thanks to the system.
Although it seemed useless because of what it looked like, Neves knew it was helping him with something.
When he first got here, life felt like a punishment.
He didn't know what was happening at that time, but the moment he got here, his skin started to itch nonstop.
As if he was put inside irritants for hours, making him scratch himself nonstop till he bled.
Eating and drinking anything too was no good, as each time he put something inside his mouth, he would throw it up the very second.
Breathing too was too much for him.
Each time he breathed in, he felt like he was taking water inside of him.
Enough to make him feel like he was drowning, but not enough to kill him.
Because of these, when he first got here, he felt like dying was better.
Thanks to some homeless people taking him in, and helping him back then, he was able to survive.
Then, a week later after he got here,
the system came.
The moment it came, every condition he had over the last week suddenly disappeared without a trace.
After that, he learned and understood something at that time.
He cannot survive in this world without the help of a system giving him resistance to the environment or the ability to adapt to this world's environment.
And since then, he's been diving alone in the dungeon, gathering mana crystals to feed it, to make sure it would not reach 0.
In fear that if it does, the system would disappear completely without ever coming back.
And him, returning to that state of life.
"Don't have a phone to use or food to eat... Time to go to sleep." He said, closing his eyes, with the system giving a tiny bit of light to ease him.
The moment he woke up the next day, he grabbed his washed clothes he did the night before, and left the stable as soon as he could.
The payment he gave yesterday was just him being allowed to stay the night.
The moment the sun came, he would need to leave.
Nothing else to do, he moved towards the town church in hope of getting a blessing from the sisters there.
By the time he got to the church, he found the people living there starting a prayer to multiple audience before them.
"I'm not late today!" He yelled quietly, slowly moving to the crowd.
The moment he joined the group, he stood still, hoping to be blessed by the divine power the leading sister was praying for.
A minute later, the sister stopped, telling them the blessing she was giving was done.
'Really annoying I can't know what blessing I got,' Neves thought, annoyed by how long the process of the system panel appearance was for him.
The moment his mind returned to the real world, the church was giving food to the people who were there.
Seeing this, Neves quickly tried to sneak away from there.
"Where are you going?" a sister said, stopping him from going down the small slope in the church.
"Dungeon?" he answered. "Where else?" His brow raised as he spoke.
"I know where you're going, but stay here for a bit and have some food first, will you?" the sister said, grabbing his arm and slowly pulling him back to the church.
"I don't need to!" Neves screamed. "I'm not hungry at all..." He tried to explain, but his stomach started growling, contradicting his words.
"As if," the sister sneered, forcing him to sit down and moving to get food for him.
"Sheesh, how does she always find me?" Neves asked, recalling how she's always the one to get him.
Although life has been rough all this time, it wasn't all bad. In the time he spent here, Neves did meet people who are good and willing to be there for him.
Which one of these people is this sister in this church. Back then, she was one of the people who helped him in the first week, along with the homeless people.
Knowing his situation, each time she saw Neves, she would grab him to make sure he won't run away.
Knowing he only eats once a day and spends the night in some horse stable in the town.
After a while, the sister returned with a bowl of food for him. A soup and a few pieces of bread to have.
Looking at it, Neves hesitated on taking them, knowing his restrictions would bother him greatly.
"If I eat this, I can go?" He looked at her.
Nodding, she said: "Yes, all of it."
Seeing she was not lying, Neves grabbed the spoon and placed it in his mouth.
Ripping the bread in half, and dipping it in the soup.
He started eating it all, forcing himself to finish it.
"Done," he said, tapping the bowl down.
"Can I go now?" he asked once again, with a pale expression this time.
"Yes," grabbing the bowl back.
"You can go now," the sister said, letting an area open for him to go.
Seeing this, Neves stood up, thanked her for both the blessing and the food for today, and quickly left the church.
He barely made it into the alley before it hit.
His stomach twisted—
And everything came back up.
