Chapter 4 - Chapter 4: Tour excursion in school (part 1)

September was slowly coming to an end. The sky had started to look clearer, and a gentle breeze filled the air, carrying with it a feeling of change. The first semester examinations had just finished, and with them, the heavy burden of stress seemed to fade away from every student's mind.

The school atmosphere had completely transformed.

The same corridors that were once filled with silence, nervous whispers, and last-minute revisions were now alive again with laughter, chatter, and excitement. Students walked freely without books in their hands, smiling and talking as if a huge weight had been lifted from their shoulders.

For weeks, everyone had been busy with studies, assignments, and exams. But now, it was finally time to relax.

And just like every year, the school announced something that made the excitement even greater—

The annual educational excursion.

The moment the notice was posted on the board, students rushed toward it. There was an instant buzz of joy and curiosity. Where would they go this time? What would they see? What adventures were waiting ahead?

For most students, this trip was not just about education. It was about spending time with friends, creating unforgettable memories, and enjoying freedom away from regular school routines.

Without any hesitation, almost everyone signed up.

And among them were we four friends—I, Kartik, Sanjib, and Megha.

We had been close for a long time. Our friendship was simple, natural, and full of small moments that meant a lot to us.

Kartik was the life of our group. He always had a joke ready, no matter the situation. Even in serious moments, he found a way to make everyone laugh.

I was usually the observer—the one who noticed things quietly, who watched and understood more than I spoke.

Megha was cheerful, intelligent, and full of life. Her presence always made everything feel brighter.

And then there was Sanjib.

Quiet, calm, and thoughtful. He didn't talk much, but his actions always spoke for him. He had a kind heart—one that cared deeply, even if he didn't express it openly.

But lately, something had changed.

None of us said it out loud, but we had all started noticing it—

Whenever Megha was around, Sanjib was different.

He smiled more. He spoke more. And sometimes, he seemed lost in a world where only she existed.

The Journey Begins

The day of the excursion finally arrived.

The school bus was scheduled to leave at 5 PM in the evening. As the sun slowly began to set, the sky turned into a beautiful mix of orange, pink, and golden hues. It felt like the perfect beginning to something special.

Students gathered in the school compound with bags, snacks, water bottles, and endless excitement.

As soon as we boarded the bus, Kartik and I took seats together on one side.

But before we could even look around properly, Sanjib had already taken the seat beside Megha.

Kartik leaned toward me and whispered with a mischievous grin, "Look at that! Our friend has already started his mission."

I tried to control my laughter but couldn't help smiling.

Soon, the bus started moving.

Within minutes, the entire bus was filled with life. Some students began singing loudly, turning the journey into a mini concert. Others passed around snacks—chips, chocolates, and homemade food.

Laughter echoed through the bus as jokes, stories, and playful arguments filled the air.

But amidst all this noise and excitement, there was a small, quiet world of its own—

Sanjib and Megha.

They were talking continuously, completely absorbed in each other's presence.

They spoke about old school memories, funny classroom moments, favorite movies, dreams about the future, and even silly childhood stories.

For the first time, I saw Sanjib laughing so freely, without hesitation, without holding back.

And Megha… she seemed truly happy.

It was as if the rest of the world had faded away for them.

Kapilas Hill

Early the next morning, after a long overnight journey, our bus finally reached Kapilas Hill in Odisha.

The air was cool and refreshing. A soft mist surrounded the area, making everything look calm and peaceful.

After freshening up, we began our climb toward the temple at the top of the hill.

The height was nearly 3000 feet, and the path was long and tiring.

At first, everyone started with enthusiasm. But slowly, reality set in.

Kartik, as expected, was the first to struggle.

"Bro… I think this hill wants to defeat me," he said dramatically, holding his knees.

I laughed and replied, "Don't worry. We'll reach the top… slowly."

Many students stopped along the way to rest. Some sat on the steps, some drank water, and others simply tried to catch their breath.

But surprisingly, Sanjib and Megha kept going.

They didn't stop much.

They walked side by side, talking and laughing as if the long, tiring path didn't matter at all.

Kartik looked at them and shook his head.

"For them," he said jokingly, "this road will never end."

Watching them, I couldn't help but think of a romantic line—

If only this road never ended…

Finally, after a long climb, we reached the temple.

We offered our prayers and then stood at the top, looking at the breathtaking view.

Green hills stretched endlessly in every direction. The cool wind touched our faces, and for a moment, everything felt peaceful and magical.

Nandankanan Zoo

After lunch, we continued our journey to Nandankanan Zoological Park.

The moment we entered, excitement returned.

Teachers allowed us to explore in small groups, and soon everyone scattered in different directions.

Sanjib and Megha decided to visit the tiger enclosure.

Megha looked around carefully but couldn't spot anything.

"Hey Sanjib," she said, "Where is the tiger? I can't see it."

Sanjib pointed toward a tree.

"Look behind that tree. It's resting there."

Megha leaned forward, focusing carefully.

"Oh! Now I see it!" she said, smiling.

"These days even tigers love playing hide-and-seek."

Sanjib laughed loudly.

As they walked further, they saw a beautiful peacock spreading its colorful feathers.

Megha stopped and admired it.

"Look at that peacock… it's so beautiful," she said softly.

But Sanjib wasn't looking at the peacock.

He was looking at her.

"Yes… beautiful," he replied.

"Just like you."

Megha froze for a moment. Her cheeks turned slightly pink.

"Really?" she asked shyly.

Sanjib nodded.

A gentle silence followed—a silence filled with unspoken emotions.

Then Sanjib gathered courage.

"Can we take some selfies together?"

Megha smiled brightly.

"Of course!"

They clicked several photos. In one of them, both of them were laughing naturally—completely lost in the moment.

And in that moment, Sanjib made a quiet promise to himself—

One day, he would frame that photo.

The Missing Friends

After some time, it was time to return.

Kartik and I reached the meeting point early.

But Sanjib and Megha were nowhere to be seen.

Thirty minutes passed.

Then another thirty minutes.

We started getting worried.

Finally, after almost an hour, we saw them walking toward us—slowly, happily, still talking.

Kartik leaned toward me and whispered, "Look at them… they forgot the whole world."

But seeing them safe made us feel relieved.

At the Hotel

By evening, we reached our hotel.

Everyone checked into their rooms and started resting.

Kartik and I entered our room and lay down on the beds.

But suddenly, Kartik sat up.

"Sanjib?" he said.

"Where did he go?"

We looked around.

He wasn't there.

After asking a few students, we found out—

He had gone straight to Megha's room.

Kartik burst out laughing.

"Our friend has fallen in love!"

Dinner Time

After almost two and a half hours, Sanjib finally returned.

His face was glowing with happiness.

Later, during dinner, he once again disappeared—and this time, he sat beside Megha.

Interestingly, they both ordered the same dish.

Kartik shook his head dramatically.

"This is serious now."

A Walk Under the Stars

After dinner, while returning to our rooms, we noticed something beautiful.

Sanjib and Megha were walking slowly in the hotel garden.

Soft lights illuminated the path. The cool night breeze made everything feel calm and peaceful.

They were talking quietly.

Sometimes laughing.

Sometimes walking in silence.

It looked like a scene straight out of a romantic movie.

The Promise

Later, when Sanjib returned, I teased him.

"Friend, you forgot us completely!"

Sanjib laughed.

"Are you crazy? How can I forget you? You guys are my best friends."

Then he added softly,

"And listen… I might need your help in the future."

Kartik raised an eyebrow.

"Oh really? What kind of help?"

Sanjib just smiled.

A mysterious, hopeful smile.

The Diary

Late at night, the entire hotel fell silent.

Everyone was asleep.

But Sanjib had a habit.

Every night, he wrote about his day in his personal diary.

He opened it slowly.

And began writing.

About the journey…

The hill…

The zoo…

The laughter…

And Megha.

His words flowed naturally, filled with emotion.

At the end, he paused.

He smiled softly.

Outside, the night was calm and quiet.

But inside his heart—

A beautiful love story had just begun. ❤️
