Chapter 5 - Chapter 5: Tamraj, The Dark Mage

Darkness had a center.

A source.

A place where it gathered, where it grew stronger, where it waited with endless patience.

Far beyond the reach of kingdoms…

Beyond lands that still held life…

Beyond the skies that still carried light…

There existed a realm forgotten by the world.

A land untouched by time.

A land abandoned by hope.

The sky there was never blue. It stretched endlessly in shades of black and crimson, as if stained by something ancient and irreversible. The ground beneath was cold, lifeless, cracked like a corpse long drained of warmth. No rivers flowed. No winds passed. Even sound itself seemed reluctant to exist.

At the heart of that cursed land stood a fortress.

Massive.

Silent.

Unmoving.

The Abyss Citadel.

Its towering walls rose like a nightmare carved into reality itself, forged from black stone that swallowed all light. Nothing reflected from its surface. Not the faintest glow. Not even shadows behaved normally around it.

It did not simply stand in darkness.

It consumed everything around it.

Even hope.

Inside the citadel, the air felt suffocating.

Every step echoed unnaturally, as though the structure itself was alive, listening, remembering. The halls stretched endlessly, lined with symbols so ancient that even time had forgotten their meaning.

Shadows did not merely exist here.

They lived.

They moved.

They obeyed.

At the very center of the citadel, within a vast chamber surrounded by glowing runes and shifting darkness, stood a single figure.

Still.

Calm.

Waiting.

Tamraj.

His long robes flowed like liquid shadow, constantly shifting as if alive. Patterns of ancient magic glowed faintly across the fabric, pulsing like a heartbeat. His eyes burned with a deep crimson light—cold, calculating, and endless.

Around him, darkness moved like a storm held on the edge of release.

He raised one hand slowly.

The shadows responded instantly.

They gathered.

Twisted.

Formed shapes.

Memories.

Fragments of what he had seen.

The Guardians appeared before him in shifting silhouettes.

Fire burned fiercely.

Earth stood unshaken.

Water flowed endlessly.

Storms roared with wild energy.

Light shone with quiet strength.

And then…

Darkness.

Tamraj's gaze lingered.

On one figure.

"…Nish."

A faint, knowing smile formed on his lips.

"So the fragment still walks this world."

The shadows distorted, forming an incomplete silhouette—unstable, flickering, as though something was missing from it.

"…How very interesting."

Far away, across the world, the effects of his power continued to spread.

In the northern mountains, the earth trembled without warning. Massive cracks tore through the land, swallowing homes and forcing entire villages to flee.

In the eastern seas, the waters rose higher than ever before. Ships vanished without a trace, dragged beneath by forces unseen.

In the southern deserts, flames erupted from the ground itself, burning endlessly without fuel, devouring everything in their path.

And in the skies above, storms gathered.

Not natural storms.

Something darker. Something alive.

The balance of the world…

Was breaking.

Back in the Abyss Citadel, Tamraj walked slowly across the chamber.

Each step was measured. Controlled.

"You see it now…" he murmured.

His voice was soft, yet it carried beyond the walls of the citadel, beyond distance, beyond reality itself.

"…Don't you, Guardians?"

At that exact moment, in the distant village—

Nish froze.

His body stiffened, his eyes widening slightly as something unfamiliar yet deeply connected touched his mind.

"…That voice…"

Jyoti turned toward him immediately.

"What is it?"

Nish didn't answer.

Because he was listening.

"…You feel it," the voice continued.

It was not spoken aloud.

It echoed inside him.

"…The imbalance."

"…The flaw."

Nish clenched his fist.

"…Who are you?" he whispered.

Jyoti stepped closer, concern growing in her eyes.

"Nish?"

"…You already know who I am."

The voice responded instantly.

Calm.

Certain.

Unshaken.

"…Tamraj."

Silence fell.

Jyoti's expression hardened.

"He's contacting you."

"…No," Nish said slowly.

"…He's reaching through something."

He looked at his own shadow.

"…Through the darkness."

Back in the citadel, Tamraj's smile deepened.

"Yes…"

"…You understand."

Dark energy surged around him as he lifted his hand once more.

"You were always different."

The shadows behind him twisted violently, the images of the other Guardians flickering before shattering into nothing.

"Not like them."

His voice lowered.

"…You were never whole."

Nish's breathing slowed.

"…Stop."

But the voice did not stop.

"…Tell me, Shadow Guardian…"

"…Do you still believe in balance?"

Visions flashed through Nish's mind.

The burning forest.

The broken land.

The unstable elements.

"…Look at the world," Tamraj whispered.

"…It is already collapsing."

Nish's eyes hardened.

"…Because of you."

A quiet laugh echoed in response.

"No."

"…Because of truth."

Back in the Abyss Citadel, Tamraj turned toward a massive dark portal behind him.

It pulsed with raw, chaotic energy, spilling darkness into the chamber like a living force.

"…Balance is a lie," he said.

"The elements were never meant to coexist."

"They were meant to dominate."

"To consume."

"To evolve."

The portal expanded, its energy growing more violent.

"And I…"

"…am simply allowing the world to become what it was always meant to be."

Back with the Guardians, the others could feel it now.

The pressure.

The presence.

Agniya tightened her grip on her weapon.

"…This guy really likes talking."

Vayu's gaze remained sharp.

"…But he's not entirely wrong."

Varun looked at him.

"…The balance is weakening."

Prithvi stepped forward firmly.

"…Then we restore it."

Jyoti's light flared brighter, pushing back against the growing darkness.

"…Together."

Nish remained silent.

Because one sentence refused to leave his mind.

"You were never whole."

"…What does that mean?" Jyoti asked softly.

Nish looked at her, uncertainty visible for the first time.

"…I don't know."

"…But he does."

Far away, Tamraj closed his eyes briefly.

"…Soon…"

"…You will remember."

His eyes opened again, glowing brighter than before.

"And when you do…"

"…you will choose."

The portal behind him surged violently.

Darkness spilled outward.

Across the entire world, the attacks began again.

Stronger.

Faster.

Everywhere.

Back in the village, Nish turned toward the horizon.

"…He's escalating."

Agniya smirked, though this time there was tension beneath it.

"…Good."

But even she understood now—

This was no longer just another battle.

Far away, Tamraj stood at the edge of the portal, watching the world through its shifting darkness.

"…Let the balance fall."

"…Let the Guardians struggle."

His voice dropped into a cold whisper.

"…And let the Shadow remember…"

"…what he truly is."
