Chapter 5 - Beyond the bounds of rules

The world was… unnaturally quiet.

Not the calm of safety—

but the silence before disaster.

Kyle stood in the middle of the ruins, his chest rising and falling with difficulty, his injured shoulder throbbing with pain.

But the pain was no longer the most important thing.

Because…

The Titans had stopped.

Yes.

Stopped.

One of them had its leg raised, about to crush a soldier… and remained frozen in place.

The smoke drifted slowly.

The sounds vanished.

Even the screams… were suddenly cut off.

Kyle turned his gaze slowly.

Eren and Mikasa noticed it too, but they were too terrified to speak.

"…What's happening?" Kyle whispered.

The new voice returned—clear this time… close… as if speaking directly inside his mind:

"You have crossed the line."

Kyle clenched his teeth.

"…Who are you?"

Silence.

Then—

The air in front of him cracked, like glass shattering without a sound.

From the void… something emerged.

Not human.

Not a Titan.

Its form was unstable, constantly shifting, as if the eye itself couldn't focus on it.

But one thing was certain:

This… did not belong to the natural world.

"I am… one of the observers."

A chill ran down Kyle's spine.

"An observer? Like that other voice?"

"No."

The shadow stepped forward.

"That one… merely tries to preserve balance."

A pause.

"As for me… I observe deviations."

Kyle's heart pounded.

"Deviations?"

"You."

The word fell like a death sentence.

Kyle let out a faint laugh, though his eyes remained sharp.

"I'm just someone trying to survive."

"No."

The voice grew colder.

"You are someone who has begun to break the rules."

Time began to move again—slowly.

The Titans started to come back to life…

"Every attempt you make…" the voice continued,

"creates cracks in the system."

Kyle said nothing.

He had suspected it… but now it was confirmed.

"And if I keep going?" he asked calmly.

The shadow paused.

"You will become something… that should not exist."

A heavy silence passed.

Then—

[39:10…]

Time snapped back to normal.

A Titan's roar tore through the air.

One of them lunged straight toward them.

"Move!" Kyle shouted.

He grabbed Eren, pulled Mikasa, and leaped away just before a Titan's fist slammed into the ground.

But this time…

Something had changed.

His predictive ability was… stronger.

The lines no longer showed just movement—

But possibilities.

Kyle saw three paths:

Escape → survive, but a soldier dies

Fight → 62% chance of death

Sacrifice something → unknown result

"…That's new," he muttered.

[Skill Evolved: Motion Prediction – Level 2]

"Now it's giving me choices…"

But there was no time to think.

The Titan approached, mouth wide open, saliva dripping, empty eyes… but its intent was clear.

Kyle took a deep breath.

"…Let's try."

He chose the second path.

He charged straight at the Titan.

Mikasa shouted behind him:

"What are you doing?!"

Kyle didn't answer.

Every movement was calculated.

Every step built on prediction.

He leaped over debris, spun, and narrowly avoided the Titan's strike by centimeters.

"Now!"

He drove his blade into the Titan's eye.

A horrifying scream erupted.

But…

It didn't die.

The Titan grew more violent.

It slammed the ground, the shockwave throwing Kyle back.

He crashed, rolled, and blood ran down his forehead.

"…Mistake," he whispered, forcing himself up.

[Death Probability Increased: 71%]

"Excellent."

The mysterious voice returned—

but this time… there was something like amusement in it.

"Show me… how far you can go."

Kyle wiped the blood from his face.

He breathed slowly.

"You want to see?"

He tightened his grip on his blade.

"Then watch me break this entire game."

He charged again.

But this time…

He wasn't just attacking.

He was learning.

Every strike, every movement, every mistake—

he stored them all.

The Titan struck—Kyle dodged.

It bit—Kyle spun away.

Until—

He saw the opening.

The nape.

The kill point.

But—

Just before he reached it—

[Warning: Intervention Forbidden]

His body suddenly grew heavy.

His movement slowed.

"…No!"

The Titan turned toward him.

Its mouth opened.

Closer.

Too close.

Kyle tried to move—

But the system… was holding him back.

The first voice returned, urgent:

"I told you! Don't change everything!"

But the second voice…

Laughed.

"Let him."

The moment froze.

Kyle was inside the Titan's mouth…

Unable to move.
