Chapter 34 - successful memory gains

The boys stood there multitasking, listening to their conversation while also paying attention to the kids who were stretching and preparing for whatever their lessons was.

"Scarlett race, I think I've heard of them before. The name comes from they're skin color." Damon thought looking at their skin which was two different shades of red. Tonk was a slightly darker shade like a chilli pepper while the guard was a lighter shade similar to chestnut red.

Tonk stepped in front of them and held out his hand.

Sin reached for his hand expecting he wanted a hand shake and introduction, but suddenly felt an invisible force stopping him and pushing his hand back slowly like how magnets would repel eachother if both are poled the same like north, north or south south.

"The scarlet race are beings with natural magnetic fields, a simple handshake is how we can determine someone's strength, potential and most importantly intentions. " the guard said seeing how confused Sin was.

Tonk said nothing after dropping his arm and stepped in front of Manboy with the same gesture which birthed the same results.

Damon looked at Tonk's hand for a few seconds before reaching out, but to everyone surprise Damon's hand didn't get pushed back until it was literally an inch away making the guard eyes widen.

Tonk smiled before shutting off the magnetic field of aura and grabbing Damon's hand firmly, but Damon didn't flinch as their eyes locked.

The moment their hands touched, Damon could feel something foreign surround his body. The same magnetic energy as before, but this time instead of repeling it was pulling.

Tonk pulled Damon into his chest with great force, snatching him off his feet. It was a quick and strong pull, but Damon knew it wasn't a threatening force as if he was about to be attacked. Somehow he could feel Tonk's intentions through their energies mixing.

Instead of worrying about what was going on, Damon focused on the sense he was feeling.

"Hmmmmm, you're ten years old, your body is in incredible shape for someone at your age, and I dont mean your physique. " Tonk said looking at Damon with steady yellow glowing eyes that looked to be doing more than just looking. Damon instantly felt Tonk was doing something strange.

"Can you guess what I am referring to?"

He added.

Twisting his lips while looking at their locked hands, Damon responded.

"No Sir."

"The flow of your energy is very clean, meaning your potential to be great is high." He said before letting go of his hand.

"High potential." Damon repeated in his head. For a moment he believed it, but the thought of his ability quickly eliminated the compliment. Instead, Damon just shrugged.

"Now if you all will excuse me, I have a class to attend to." With that, Tonk walked away and the guard gestured for the boys to proceed with following him.

Just as they were exiting, Tonk spoke again.

"Hey boy with high potential, you should trust your ability more." He said making Sin, Manboy and the guard look at Damon with brows that wrote confusion all over they're faces.

"Ability, what is he talking about?" Asked Sin.

Damon took in a breath while looking at they're curious faces. Even the guard was waiting on his response. He heard Damon was only 10 years old and everything else Tonk said. So to the guard, Damon had to be a early awakened, he just wanted to Damon to confirm it.

"I have an ability, and yes I am an early awakened. " he said with irritable eyes. He really didn't care to share it and felt like Tonk shouldn't have probed his mind, thoughts, body, or whatever he did to know such things about him. In turn, Damon questioned the guard since they were of the same race.

" how did he do that, how could he learn something like that about me with a simple handshake. He shouldn't have done that, its my right to keep things to myself and he just blurted out something id rather not want people to know. " Damon said with cutting eyes.

The guard looked at him seeing the frown on his face. It was clear Damon was upset about it and the guard understood.

"Look, Tonk didn't mean any harm. Its our race way of living. Its our born skill and its how the Scarlett race has overcome so much. With a handshake, we can determine someone's strength, potential and intentions like i said before, but every now and then depending on the person we can determine strong negative emotions. If you will shake my hand i can explain better." He said holding it out.

Damon eyes narrowed for a moment before Sin bumped his shoulder.

"Do it, you wanna know how right.?"

Shaking the guard hand, a low magnetic force surfed through Damon, almost like a small jolt of electricity.

"Hmmmm, yes. I see what Tonk's referring to. You have a very strong negative emotion towards your ability. My race can only detect strong negative emotions. The fact its towards yourself makes it clear. That's why we can tell you've already awakened. "

"Can you tell what type of ability I have?"

"No, only that you truly dislike it, but I can tell the ability you have is unique and therefore will take more time to develop. That is why Tonk said to trust your ability more, perhaps this negative emotion towards it will only stunt your growth, its something to consider." The guard spoke gently making sure Damon knew he was being genuine.

They continued with the tour and Damon promised to show Sin and Manboy his ability once they returned home. It was the only way to get them to shut up about it. The guard gave Damon his word not to say anything about it to no one. The rest of the tour consisted of knowing the hallways to their first two classes, libraries, lunch hall and main office.

"We never got your name." Damon asked the guard as they had returned to Dr. Res and was about to leave.

"Its Tank, Tonks my older brother." He said with a smile making them look at eachother oddly as it registered in their minds.

After leaving the academy grounds and returning to the orphanage. Dr. Res made Damon and Sin accompany him back to the city to pick up a few things. It was getting late in the evening so Dr. Res called a travel carrier to make the trip faster.

"Damon, how is it that you remember your last name, but the others don't. Have you been able to remember anything you didn't before?" Asked Dr. Res adjusting his glasses a bit.

" im not sure, its just something I can remember. Honestly, I have been able to recall a few things, but nothing that could tell me what happened. I do believe my memory is returning, but at a slow pace." He responded. It was the third time Dr. Res had asked him about his memories returning, and Damon had responded similarly each time.

"I figured as much, well hopefully you'll remember soon."

"Hey, can you take us by the butcher as well." Dr. Res asked the driver of the wagon. After stopping at multiple places and picking up food and materials, nightfall was upon them as they were headed back. Sin had fallen asleep, snoring like a grown man while Damon sat there with his eyes closed thinking about the words of Tank and his brother Tonk.

"Trust my ability more." He thought when suddenly a memory of him meditating on his ability while Raya, Jasper and a black haired boy slept around a fire.

"Another memory. " he whispered opening his eyes. This made Damon think of something, an idea that could help. Closing his eyes again, he began meditating on the memories he had regained so far. Turning his mind back, picturing the scenes. Only a few minutes passed when another memory swept in his head.

It was him, wearing a not so well armor set of lizard skin. He was jabbing at the undercarriage of a huge boar. Damon didn't allow gaining another memory to break his concentration. He continued to stay focus in order to gain more or enough memories to make some sense out of everything that occurred.

A growing feeling in the pit of his stomach grew the more memories he obtained. Soon more memories unveiled themselves. A memory of them battling a herd of hogs, him running in the rain away from a old looking large cabin, unchaining a beautiful girl with thick white wool hair which was Raya. Nearly dying by large spiders.

The images of a brown skin man in a top hat and a fat man wearing an blacksmith apron moved to the forefront of his mind when the carriage hit a large bump in the road. Opening his eyes and looking out the window, Damon could see the orphanage. They were a half mile away or a little less, but that's not all he saw.

"The lights, why are they flickering like that?" He thought watching the lights flicker from the dinning room windows.

He gently shook Dr. Res as he too had fell asleep.

"Just what in the hell is going on with those light orbs, they cant be going out already, i just installed them." He said outloud as Damon woke up Sin.

Parking in front, they all got out grabbing bags and everything Dr. Res purchased. The driver left and as they walked down the narrow walk way full of dead roses. Dr. Res stopped midway slowly putting everything down and gesturing for them to do the same.

"Someone is here, and not someone I know." He whispered. Within a flash Dr. Res had a cane or some kind of walking stick as he slowly moved forward.

The door was cracked and the flickering lights continued. Grabbing the top of the cane, he slowly pulled it revealing a thin red and orange stained sword.
