"Someone is here, and not someone I know." He whispered. Within a flash Dr. Res had a cane or some kind of walking stick as he slowly moved forward.
The door was cracked and the flickering lights continued. Grabbing the top of the cane, he slowly pulled it revealing a thin red and orange stained sword.
"Stay close behind, if I say run, you run." He softly spoke. Dr. Res eyes had changed, normally they were relaxed and never gave off a glint of anxiety. Now it was a seriousness to them, his almond brown eyes seemed to become lighter as he focused.
Walking inside, an odd and erie quietness fell upon their shoulders. Damon looked around seeing nothing out of place, at least not in the living room. Turning right, towards the dinning area and the flickering lights, they moved slowly.
Dr. Res hand was firmly gripping the cane, which was actually a sword. By the time they turned the corner to face the kitchen, the scent of iron swept through making Damon gulp as he knew the smell. Dr. Res closed his eyes briefly as if he knew what he would see just before turning the corner.
Just as he predicted, the smell lingering in the air was blood, a ton of it.
Dr. Res stood in place, frozen with wide eyes. Half of Mrs. Res body was sprawled out on the kitchen table. It was her lower half, from her lower abdomen to her feet while the top half hung by a rope on the chandelier above. Damon mouth dropped in horror while Sin grabbed his chest in a panic.
It was only a few seconds that seemed like forever before Dr. Res began screaming at the top of his lungs running forward. With slash he cut Mrs Res top half down catching and cradling her torn body as tears flooded his face. He screamed and spoke in frustration calling out to her as if she could hear him.
Sin turned away not being able to bare the sight. Her insides were all over the place. Damon slowly began to gain a little composure, though it was a troubling scene, he tried his best to focus on what possibly happened instead of the gruesome images that were being saved in his head.
He could see rows of puncture wounds on her legs and missing chunks of flesh like it was torn from the bone by a beast. Damon's body moved without him knowing, he found himself closer as on the wall in the background of the scene was something he knew, something that all the recent orphans knew because they all had it.
A image of a large bird with skeleton wings was drawn on the wall in blood. It lacked hard details that could be seen on the branded scars they had but it was clear enough to know what it was.
"Manboy, where's Manboy he suddenly thought.
Hearing shuffling footsteps, Damon turned to see Dr. Res running out heading upstairs. Sin and Damon looked at eachother briefly before following.
They checked every room and found nothing, not even the slightest sign of a fight or struggle. Manboy's room was perfect, clean and untouched but he was nowhere to be found.
"Where are you, come out. I sensed you here a moment ago, why run you cowards, face me." Dr. Res yelled spinning around looking everywhere while his hand skillfully rested on the hilt of his sword ready to unsheath it at a moment notice.
A large shadow moved across the room like a wave and disappeared seeping into the wall. Dr. Res bolted out the room chasing it, and Sin followed. Damon stood still, paralyzed as more memories came to him. The shadow had triggered them and in his mind, a fight between the same dark haired boy with red eyes that had been traveling with him, Raya and Jasper bloomed.
Shadow strikes, along with him and the boy exchanging blows in his vision brought on more memories. The unmoving bodies of Raya and Jasper being carried to a wagon by the fat man in a blacksmithing apron while the same darkskin man as before wearing a top hat sporting the colors green and black stood watching them clash.
" for the future, why is that in my head. Could it be something someone said." He thought finally gaining his mind back.
Just then someone entered the room, but it wasn't who he thought it was.
"Captain Issac!"
" we must go, there's been multiple reports." Is all he said before grabbing Damon by the arm.
Multiple guards, around six were prowling the house and more outside as Damon was taken out meeting up with Sin who was being detained by two guards.
"Damon!"
"Its us, whoever did this is after us." Sin said as Damon was escorted to the end of the walkway. Captain issac gestured for the two guards to keep an eye on Damon as well before returning back into the house.
"What do you mean." Asked Damon.
"The others, they've been taken. The families that took them in are dead. Just like Mrs. Res." Sin said making Damon frown and slowly rub his head.
"Hold on, how do you....
"Its true, all of the others are gone and the families who took them in have been brutally murdered. " said one of the guards cutting Damon off.
Sitting down on the ground, Damon rubbed his face and eyes as if he was trying wake up, as if everything was a dream. He didn't know what to do or say, his mind was blank and more confused than ever. The night passed. Damon and Sin were taken to the city guards building and thrown in separate cells.
They were told it was for their protection, just until things were figured out. One day passed after another without so much of a single word, just quick visits from the guards who were on duty to bring them food and water. The cells were pretty big, with a bed, toilet space and wash area.
The walls were solid and soundproof with one door that was half glass or some kind of see-through material that was just as strong as the walls. Damon couldn't really tell how much time had passed, but he knew it was more than two days.
Nothing made any sense, everything happened too fast. One minute he was free and the next, he was locked up in a room like he had committed a crime.
Damon didn't do much, his mind was a complete mess and he spent most of his time trying to convince himself all of it would be over soon. Nothing else mattered, he just wanted to know why he was being treated like he was the one who killed Mrs. Res.
Eventually he began passing the time by completing small workout circuits. Push ups, sit-ups, squats and even head stands which took him a while to get a hang of. He mixed up his workouts and performed them twice and sometimes three times a day, but only if he couldn't fall asleep.
None of the guards would talk to him, they dropped off food and water four times a day, and Damon could see foot traffic often as they tended to other occupied cells. He'd bang on the glass demanding attention, but none looked his way.
As far as he knew, more days passed before he was finally told anything.
"I know, you've been dealt a shifty hand but as of now thats the way it has to be. No one wants to deal with you, the entire city are calling you and the others cursed. Its impossible for you to find a home here and you're far too young to leave the city. Dr. Res left the city that same night searching for the people responsible. We found his body a week ago, a day and a half journey from here." Captain issac said with a straight face. There was not a hint of compassion in his tone which threw Damon off.
He hadn't spent much time with captain Issac, but he thought of him as a good captain and person, but seeing and hearing him now, Damon felt as if he had fooled himself.
Damon asked what happened to Sin and strangely it turned out that Sin was from Capetown, but moved away four years ago. He had gone missing months ago and apparently his original parents caught wind of someone who resembled their son with Dr. Res signing up for the academy.
"Sin's parents had just returned a few days ago, they had been living in an entirely different city due to their work when he was taken. Until a few days ago we had no idea an original resident of Capetown was among you all when you first got here. Its ironic he ended up back here." Captain Issac said.
"We did learn your bloodlines hasn't been wiped out, instead a small portion of your DNA had been altered slightly which is why none of your DNA's matched any records no matter which city we pulled from."
Damon was speechless once again, his life had turned from shit, to multiple piles of shit within a blink of an eye.
"So you're telling me im homeless?"
Captain issac took in a shallow breath before responding.
"Yes, you're being released. The city head is allowing you to stay in the city only because of your age. I've got a bag with a few things that can help you for a while, but you're going to have to find your own way."
"You've gotta be fucking kidding me, im ten years old. What fucking sense does this make. You guys are treating me like im a criminal, I did nothing, I have nothing." Damon shouted in sudden anger. His hands trembled and his eyes swelled with tears.
"Come on, my memories are coming back, I, I can find out who killed those families. I can help, please don't do this, it isn't right " he pleaded.
Captain issac eyes wavered for a moment before asking him what he remembered. Damon told him everything he could remember including the descriptions of Mr. Grimm and Chum. Although Chum's description was the exact match of the man Jack holster mentioned, the man that rescued them, it meant nothing.
"Look, im truly sorry, I am, but the city head has decided. I have a job to do which are orders I must follow so here. Take this bag, you'll be escorted out soon. Oh and please dont make trouble for the town, some people are itching to get rid of you and if you do, you'll find yourself in one of these cells again, and not for safety reasons either." Captain issac said after throwing him a large carry bag.
