Gravity Magic

Beginner:I can control gravity around me.

Adept:I can manipulate gravitational fields and forces.

Master:I can manipulate the energy and physical systems that generate planetary-scale phenomena.

I. Beginner-Level Spells

At beginner level, the mage has authority over local gravitational force. Most spells affect the caster, nearby objects, or a relatively small area.

1. Gravity Sense

Allows the user to perceive gravitational fields and variations in gravitational strength.

Can detect:

mass concentrations

gravitational anomalies

underground structures

large objects

changes in planetary gravity

incoming objects by their gravitational influence

With practice, it becomes almost a sixth sense.

2. Weight Alteration

The most basic practical technique.

The caster can increase or decrease their own effective weight.

Applications:

becoming lighter while jumping

becoming heavier to resist being pushed

reducing fall speed

increasing traction

moving through water

climbing surfaces

3. Feather Step

Reduces the user's effective weight while maintaining physical strength.

The user can move almost silently and leap enormous distances.

At higher proficiency, the caster can briefly make themselves almost weightless.

4. Heavy Step

The opposite of Feather Step.

The caster temporarily increases their effective gravitational mass.

A single step can:

crack weak flooring

pin themselves against the ground

resist knockback

increase melee impact

5. Gravitational Pull

Creates a weak localized gravitational attraction.

It can pull small objects toward the caster.

Sword → hand

Stone → hand

Enemy → slightly closer

Essentially a magical gravitational telekinesis.

6. Gravitational Push

Creates the opposite effect.

The user generates a gravitational gradient that pushes objects away.

Useful for:

deflecting projectiles

creating distance

knocking enemies back

disrupting formations

7. Gravity Anchor

The user anchors themselves to a location by dramatically increasing the gravitational force acting upon their body.

Useful against:

explosions

shockwaves

telekinetic attacks

charging monsters

strong winds

8. Gravity Cushion

Reduces the gravitational acceleration acting upon the user or another object.

A simple but extremely useful defensive spell.

It can turn:

"fall from a cliff"

into

"slow descent."

9. Directed Fall

The user changes the direction in which gravity acts upon themselves.

Instead of falling downward:

gravity pulls them sideways.

With sufficient control, they can effectively run along walls or ceilings.

10. Gravity Well

Creates a small region of increased gravity.

Objects inside become heavier and movement becomes difficult.

At beginner level, the radius is small and the increase modest.

11. Gravity Field

The opposite of Gravity Well.

Creates a region where gravitational force is reduced.

Useful for:

jumping

maneuvering

reducing structural loads

moving heavy objects

12. Impact Weight

The user dramatically increases their effective weight immediately before impact.

Jumping from a height becomes a weapon.

So does a punch.

So does dropping a weapon.

The trick is timing.

II. Adept-Level Gravity Magic

At Adept level, the mage stops thinking about gravity as merely weight.

They learn to manipulate gravitational fields, acceleration, momentum, and energy transfer.

13. Localized Gravity Control

Instead of merely increasing gravity in an area, the caster can establish a precise gravitational vector.

For example:

Gravity → sideways.

Or:

Gravity → toward the caster.

Or:

Gravity → toward a designated point.

This gives much greater battlefield control.

14. Gravity Well: Advanced

Creates a concentrated gravitational field around a chosen point.

The closer something gets to the centre, the stronger the gravitational force becomes.

Possible uses:

trapping enemies

crushing objects

bending projectile trajectories

dragging opponents together

controlling battlefield movement

15. Gravitational Barrier

Creates a wall of intense gravitational distortion.

Projectiles entering the field are pulled off course.

Arrows curve.

Bullets deviate.

Thrown weapons suddenly lose their trajectory.

At higher proficiency, even magical projectiles can be distorted.

16. Orbital Bind

The caster places an object inside a controlled gravitational field and forces it into orbit around another object.

For example:

Several stones → orbit the caster.

These can then be launched outward as projectiles.

It is essentially a magical miniature orbital system.

17. Gravitational Slingshot

The caster uses a gravitational field to accelerate an object dramatically.

A stone thrown into a controlled gravitational trajectory can emerge at enormous speed.

With enough precision, this can turn almost any object into ammunition.

18. Mass Anchor

Rather than merely making something heavier, the caster drastically increases the gravitational attraction between an object and its surroundings.

A weapon becomes almost impossible to move.

A shield becomes immovable.

A person can be pinned to the ground.

19. Zero-G Field

Creates a localized region of near-zero effective gravity.

Everything inside begins floating.

Combined with directional gravity, this becomes an extremely powerful movement technique.

20. Gravity Flight

The caster continuously changes the gravitational vector acting upon themselves.

Rather than "flying" in the conventional sense, they are effectively falling in whatever direction they choose.

This has an important advantage:

There is no need for wings, propulsion, or aerodynamic lift.

21. Gravitational Compression

The user concentrates gravitational force onto a target.

Unlike a simple crushing spell, the pressure can be precisely distributed.

It can:

crush armour

compact stone

collapse structures

compress materials

immobilize enemies

This also has enormous industrial applications.

22. Gravitational Lens

Manipulates the path of light by distorting local spacetime through gravity.

Applications:

bending light around the caster

creating optical distortions

obscuring an area

magnifying distant objects

seeing around obstacles

This is the point where Gravity Magic begins producing effects that look like entirely different schools of magic.

23. Tidal Force

The caster creates different gravitational forces across different parts of a target.

For example:

Head → pulled upward

Feet → pulled downward.

The resulting differential force can tear apart objects or violently destabilize them.

Against large structures, this can be devastating.

24. Gravitational Pulse

A sudden expansion of a localized gravitational field.

It behaves somewhat like a gravitational shockwave.

It can:

knock enemies away

disrupt projectiles

destabilize structures

interrupt spells

create openings

25. Gravitational Detection

An advanced form of Gravity Sense.

Instead of simply sensing gravity, the caster can detect changes caused by movement.

This allows them to sense:

approaching enemies

buried objects

large creatures

underground chambers

moving vehicles

distant masses

Essentially, a primitive magical gravimetric radar.

III. Master-Level Gravity Magic

This is where Gravity Magic reveals its true authority.

A master understands that gravity is not merely a force that pulls objects downward.

It is deeply connected to:

mass, energy, planetary structure, spacetime and celestial bodies.

26. Mass Manipulation

The user gains limited authority over the effective mass of an object.

This is different from simply changing its weight.

Weight is:

gravitational force acting on mass.

Mass is:

the object's resistance to acceleration.

Changing effective mass therefore changes how the object interacts with the rest of the world.

Applications include:

making enormous objects easier to accelerate

making small objects extraordinarily difficult to move

altering the momentum of attacks

dramatically increasing impact force

27. Gravity Inversion

The caster reverses the gravitational gradient within an area.

Instead of:

everything falls toward the planet,

objects may be pulled:

away from the planet.

A localized inversion can launch objects upward.

A sufficiently powerful one could create catastrophic atmospheric and structural effects.

28. Gravitational Singularity

The caster creates an extraordinarily concentrated gravitational field.

Not necessarily a true black hole—the latter should require an absurd amount of energy—but a temporary pseudo-singularity.

It can:

distort trajectories

crush matter

distort light

trap objects

produce enormous tidal forces

29. Event Horizon

A legendary Gravity technique.

The caster establishes a boundary beyond which escape becomes extraordinarily difficult because of extreme gravitational distortion.

30. Gravitational Time Dilation

Because extreme gravitational fields affect the passage of time, a Master can create localized differences in temporal progression.

For example:

Inside the field: time passes slower.

The user hasn't technically learned Time Magic.

They are exploiting the relationship between gravity and spacetime.

31. Gravitational Lens: Grand

The caster bends spacetime sufficiently to manipulate the path of light around a massive field.

Applications:

invisibility

long-distance observation

magnification

visual distortion

redirecting light

creating false images

With sufficient sophistication, the caster can effectively construct magical telescopes or surveillance systems.

32. Tectonic Manipulation

The caster senses the stresses within a planet and manipulates gravitational forces acting upon geological structures.

Possible effects:

earthquakes

fault activation

tectonic displacement

landslides

continental-scale pressure changes

The stronger the spell, the more dangerous it becomes.

33. Geothermal Extraction

The caster draws energy from deep within the planet.

They can manipulate:

geothermal heat

magma

subterranean pressure

volcanic energy

The energy can then be redirected into a spell.

34. Volcanic Awakening

An extremely destructive application of Geothermal Extraction + Tectonic Manipulation.

The caster manipulates the geological conditions surrounding a volcano until an eruption occurs.

35. Magnetic Field Distortion

Because planetary magnetic fields arise from complex interactions involving the planet's interior and electromagnetic processes, an advanced Gravity mage can interfere with them indirectly.

Applications:

disrupt compasses

interfere with magnetic sensors

create electromagnetic disturbances

distort certain forms of magical detection

interfere with technological systems

Combined with Elemental Lightning Magic, this becomes significantly more powerful.

36. Planetary Gravity Manipulation

The user temporarily alters the gravitational field of a large region.

At extreme mastery, potentially:

an entire planet.

This could theoretically affect:

oceans

atmosphere

tectonic systems

orbital behaviour

weather patterns

satellites

planetary rotation dynamics

37. Orbital Manipulation

A legendary technique allowing the caster to alter the trajectory of a celestial body.

Possible targets:

moons

asteroids

artificial satellites

enormous magical constructs

It would likely require an enormous ritual, astronomical mana reserves, or assistance from other Ancient Magics.

38. Gravity Collapse

The user forces matter into an extremely compressed state through overwhelming gravitational pressure.

Possible consequences:

crushing fortifications

collapsing magical barriers

compacting minerals

producing ultra-dense materials

A Creation mage could potentially take material produced by Gravity Collapse and forge it into an entirely new magical ore.

39. Celestial Authority

The highest theoretical form of Gravity Magic.

The caster establishes a gravitational connection with a celestial body and temporarily treats it as part of their magical domain.

They can manipulate:

its gravitational field

energy

orbital interactions

magnetic phenomena

geological activity

At sufficient power, a Master could effectively become the controller of a planetary gravitational system.

40. World's Weight

The ultimate defensive/offensive technique.

The caster invokes the gravitational authority of the planet itself and concentrates an enormous portion of that gravitational influence upon a target.

The target doesn't merely become "heavy."

They are effectively being subjected to the weight of the world.

It could pin:

monsters

armies

magical constructs

enormous creatures

to the ground.

The spell would be catastrophically expensive and dangerous to the surrounding environment.
