Chapter 9 - [9] Killing Didorii

Orsted's eyesight was enhanced to an unbelievable level. Even more than half a mile from where he hid, he could watch everything with perfect clarity.

His nose picked up the smell of burning meat as well.

After watching and predicting the bandits' layout for a while, Orsted saw his target sitting near to the fire - where other bandits were skinning their individual catches to cook.

Wind rose slowly from Orsted's foot, before it gently enveloped him. His body instantly grew air-borne after he jumped with all his might.

'A little more left...' Adjusting his position with wind magic, Orsted began descending right in the middle of the bandit's hideout - near Didorii.

They were all fortunately gathered in a single location, searching and hunting them while depending on his senses was a chore after all.

Then, at that moment, Orsted's body slowly stopped descending - floating just a dozen meters from the ground.

"Arcane dragon's wind roar....!" Orsted gathered their attention intentionally while taking in a huge amount of air with his modified lungs.

Acnologia could bestow any element he wanted to his breath attack, which was seen in the plot of fairy tail. In the end, he was even able to devour and use time and space elements.

Orsted's intentional movement didn't go unnoticed by the bandits - everyone froze the moment they laid their eyes on him.

"Retreat, you idiots!!!"

Their stupor only broke after hearing the urgent barking of their leader.

However, it was too late.

"RRROOAARR!!!"

A jet of condensed hurricane left Orsted's mouth, aiming right at the middle of the bandit's camp.

The moment the condensed hurricane came in contact with the ground, it expanded outward - turning into a sphere covering tens of meters.

A single attack left the bandits devastated, around half of them were enveloped in Orsted's dragon breath attack - getting instantly shredded into blood mists.

"Nothing, huh...." Orsted had watched them intently with his enhanced senses and didn't feel any of the emotions he had predicted to feel prior.

The only thought that crossed through his mind was - 'The [dragon tribe's curse] is quite handy.'

Normally they would have countered or run even, immediately seeing an unknown enemy. With his curse, they just stood in a single place with their mind smeared with primal fear.

Most of the weaker bandits were dead now, leaving behind the strong and injured ones.

'Still...'

Since Orsted watched everything with all his focus, he had seen Didorii escape from the range of his dragon breath at the last moment.

Unsheathing his sword, Orsted landed beside one of the demihuman that barely survived his ambush.

"Ughhh! My-my legs...!" The demihuman's head rolled off his head with a blur of Orsted's hand.

'Still nothing, what a disappointment. It just feels natural to kill them since they are in the way of my goal.'

Not like any sensation registered in his hand either, he felt like he was cutting through paper with his sword.

Not letting the disappointment stop him, Orsted began beheading every demihumans in the way, as he headed towards where he saw Didorii escape before.

It was towards the dense mountain and forest, opposite to the bandit's hideout.

Keeping an eye on the patches of shadows belonging to the trees, Orsted followed the smell that most likely belonged to Didorii.

'He is nearby...but before that.' Orsted turned back and watched the kobold, who was closing in with the intention of ambushing him.

Orsted could hear his footsteps from a mile.

"Die! You freakish barstard." The kobold demihuman lunged forwards with his short sword. His appearance was similar to Ricardo welkins, who worked for Anastasia Hoshin - just smaller and less robust.

Easily dodging the short sword, Orsted pierced his sword right into the Kobold's neck.

Puchi~

Just as Orsted pulled out his bloodied sword, his sensitive ears picked up a sound just a few meters away from him and it made his hair stand at their edges. His eyes turned towards the sound at breakneck speed, but it was too late.

Bang!

An axe spun towards him, that too at the speed of the sound.

'I don't have the agility to dodge that!!' Orsted's eyes widened, and his cold face instantly solidified.

Large amounts of mana flowed into the ground through Orsted's leg instinctually - a wall of earth erected before him spontaneously.

Seeing the axe breaking through the wall - Orsted didn't feel as threatened as before. His body stood with the stance of the water god style.

"Flow." Orsted used the most basic and the core technique of Water God style, which fully focused on defense.

Ting~

Parrying away the axe with 'Flow' - Orsted still felt a sharp pressure on his hands. Just with intermediate level, it was hard to parry such an attack perfectly.

This technique, once mastered, was said to be able to return any attack that comes in the user's way.

Although it is a basic technique and not one of the Five Secret Arts, the school considers it to be the backbone of the style and the most important technique, thus it is also regarded as a secret art.

The 'Flow' would next evolve to the flow of magic in the later stages.

'I didn't want to act reckless, but it can't be helped.'

A fireball condensed before Orsted's extended hand, expanding quickly to the visible eyes. Without hesitation, he launched it towards the location Didorii hid.

Boom!

A huge part of the surrounding forest was blazed in flames instantly.

"Tch!" A giant jumped out of trees, deactivating his invisibility.

Coming in full view was a four armed giant with wolfin leather covering him. His height, which was around two meters, gave him a dominant air. Three axes were held in his hands, with one missing, which lay stuck on the tree behind Orsted.

Shhhh~

The fire which was spreading through the trees suddenly began flowing towards Orsted, entering his mouth rapidly - almost forming into a thick vortex of flame.

Holding back the urge to throw another breath attack, Orsted readied his sword against Didorii, who rushed forward recklessly.

'He has a good instinct to close the distance first.'

But unfortunately for Didorii, Orsted already predicted his actions.

With a swift wind, Orsted's body flew into the sky, dodging Didorii by hair's breath.

Mana began boiling around his body, with visible heat rising around him.

"Arcane dragon's....fire breath!"

A stream of flame extended from Orsted's open mouth, almost like an inferno. It enveloped Didorii in its rising momentum - at their current distance, dodging the breath attack was pretty much impossible.

Boom!

"Haaaa..." Breathing out the heat from his mouth, Orsted stared forward coldly.

The cloud of dust slowly receded.

Watching Didorii's burnt corpse, he sighed and transferred it inside his system's inventory.

Fighting Didorii with a sword was very disadvantageous for Orsted. With just intermediate attainment, he predicted that he could only fight him to a stalemate - since, Didorii possessed four hands in his advantage.

In such a stalemate, experience would play a major role, which he lacked currently.

In the end, Didorii's strength was only around above average in the world of Re:zero.

One of Anastasia Hoshin's mercenaries, Ricardo Welkins was able to defeat Didorii too in the original plot.

'I'm surprised that I could actually react to his axe throw, which definitely travelled at the speed of sound.'

It wasn't very surprising, thinking of how the original Orsted from Jobless reincarnation could react to sword slashes that surpassed the speed of light.

'Now only the grunts are left...' Orsted moved quickly after eating the flames around him.
