Lady Aveline arrived about an hour after the phone call from Elara. The drive from Castelune to Montaire usually took about two hours. It could take longer in heavy traffic, but judging by how fast the Queen managed to get to the hospital, it was safe to assume she had used every resource at her disposal to arrive as quickly as possible.
Both Julien and Elara were already outside the hospital, waiting for the Queen. She arrived in a dark wool coat thrown over a simple black blouse and tailored navy trousers. Her hair was pinned back in a simple low bun. No makeup.
"Where is she?" the Queen asked Elara.
Elara bowed her head slightly. "This way, Your Majesty."
The three of them walked hurriedly into the hospital. Julien took a deep breath and tried to walk beside the Queen.
"Good morning, Your Majesty," said Julien.
