[3rd POV]
Arriving at the Dunphy House, Billie got out of her car with a stretch, but not before grabbing the food that she had brought for it. Everybody was bringing something to eat for the meal, so she decided to bring her personal favorite item at every Thanksgiving dinner.
And in her eyes, the best of them all.
Stuffing.
She had made it herself, using a recipe that her grandmama had. She had an entire book of her recipes, and was very fond of almost every single one inside. The only one that she was...not the biggest fan of was her green bean casserole.
She hated green beans.
Walking with the stuffing in hand, Billie stepped in front of the entrance to the Dunphy home, before knocking. She waited for a few moments, humming as she heard shuffling and talking on the other side, before the door opened.
It was Claire.
"Billie! I'm glad you could come! Come in" Claire said with a smile, as she walked forwards and hugged Billie. Billie blinked at the hug, confused on why Claire was being so...well, not Claire.
She was never the hug type of person.
"Is something wrong, Claire?" Billie asked bluntly. Claire looked at her and faulted with a confused look in her eyes.
"No? What could be wrong? It's Thanksgiving!" Claire responded with a bright smile, as Billie's face lit up in realization.
"Phil and Luke being a pain so you're trying to not show how annoyed you are right now, since you think that'll ruin Thanksgiving?" Billie asked, with Claire staring at her before sighing.
"How did you know?"
"I've been around Phil enough to know that he can be a bit...much at times. And if Luke is even remotely like his dad, then he's probably also prone to getting on people's nerves, even if he doesn't mean to" Billie replied bluntly, remembering the times that her girlfriend had complained about him to her.
He was a kid though, so it was hard to be truly mad at him or anything. And usually what he did was pretty small and meaningless, so the anger only lasted like an hour or two at most.
"...I'd say I'm surprised that you know this, but considering it's my eldest that you're dating, I'm not that shocked" Claire responded after hearing her explanation.
"Mmhmm, your daughters a bit of a gossip" Billie said, as Claire snorted.
"That's the understatement of a century" Claire replied, as the two began to walk towards the kitchen, the incredible smelling stuffing still in Billie's hands.
"Billie! You're here!" Phil exclaimed upon seeing her enter the kitchen.
"Well yeah, did you think I wouldn't come? And I've brought stuffing, its my grandma's recipe" Billie responded, as she put the stuffing onto the counter, it was still warm and Claire had to swat away Luke's hand as he was about to snatch a piece of it.
"Not yet mister! We still have to wait for your grandfather, Gloria, and Manny" Claire warned, as the boy pouted before moving back.
"Cam and Mitch are already here? Where're they at?" Billie asked, noticing that neither of the men were around.
"Off somewhere arguing I think. Cam brought Sweet Potato Casserole when Uncle Mitchell wanted to bring green bean casserole" Haley said as she walked up from behind Billie, and pecked her on the lips.
Luke audibly "Ew'd" while Claire just rolled her eyes. Not noticing the middle finger sent towards Luke, courtesy of Haley.
"Probably a good thing that Cam chose Sweet Potato Casserole, green bean casserole is gross" Billie replied, happy to hear that they brought something edible.
At least in her opinion.
"Thank you!" Cam's voice echoed as Billie turned to the man, giving her a thankful look. It would seem that he agreed with her opinion.
"I take it that you do not like Green Bean Casserole either?" Billie asked. Cam looked at her like she was crazy and shook his head.
"No! Of course not. My nana made absolutely divine Green Bean Casserole. But the sweet potato casserole is simply better! And I will not ruin the thanksgiving dinner with subpar food!" Cam said resolutely. Billie raised an eyebrow at his words.
"Well I hope my stuffing lives up to your standards" Billie replied with an amused smile on her face. The man blinked at the mention of stuffing.
"You brought stuffing? Oooh..." Cam went silent, as Billie looked at Mitchell.
"Is he okay? He's acting weirder than normal" Billie asked bluntly.
"He's got a bit of a problem when it comes to stuffing. Last Thanksgiving he ate an entire sheet of it by himself" Mitchell explained. Billie whistled at that, before smirking.
"Might want to stay away from my stuffing then, Cam. Cause it'll blow whatever you had last year out of the water. No offense Claire" Billie mock warned, while also giving Claire a small apology.
"It's fine. Just one look at your stuffing and I can tell it's better than mine. Smells amazing too" Claire responded with a small smile, inwardly excited to try it. She wasn't really the best cook, and most of the time the other members of the family carried thanksgiving food.
"Yeah...I'm gonna need to stay away if it's as good as everyone is making it out to be" Cam decided, as he took a step away from the counter, and towards the kitchen table. Far away from the stuffing...for now.
He'd have to fight that battle again later on.
"He should really work on that" Billie said with a small teasing glint in her eyes.
"Oh stop. He just really...really likes stuffing" Claire responded with a small amused grin on her own face.
"Is stuffing even that good?" Haley asked, as she leaned over and looked at the stuffing that Billie had made. She had to admit that it smelled pretty good, but it looked a bit interesting.
Billie looked at her girlfriend with confusion "You've never had stuffing? How?" Billie asked, genuinely shocked as even Claire seemed surprised.
"Wait...I've never fed you stuffing before?" Claire also asked, confused.
"Not that I remember" Haley replied, as Billie hummed as she looked over, seeing Cam was looking everywhere but towards them, overhearing their conversation.
"Ah...I think I know why you've never had the chance to try stuffing" Billie said, giving Cam a look as Haley and Claire looked over at the man. Claire gave him "The Look" as the man raised a hand.
"Sorry?" Cam said, as the two just rolled their eyes.
"Well I guess now you'll have the chance to try some. Because SOMEONE is not going to be eating all of that stuffing" Billie said, giving Cam a look of her own, the man nodded in agreement to her words.
"So...when's Jay, Gloria and Manny supposed to get here?" Billie asked, deciding to change the subject as she turned to Claire who shrugged.
"No idea. But I told them to be here within 20 minutes. If not, then we're starting without them. I'm not gonna let the food go cold just because they can't manage their time" Claire said, making it pretty obvious that she has dealt with them being late before.
And was over it.
"Alright then, what should we do while we wait?" Billie asked, looking around the room as everyone went silent.
And thankfully, as it began to get awkward, they heard the doorbell ring, as Claire sighed in relief.
"Looks like they're here!" Claire said before quickly walking off. And as she did, Billie chuckled, one thought on her mind.
'This'll be good'
