MORNING AWAKENING
The sun's gentle rays streamed through the window, brushing against Inochi's face as he awoke. A subtle warmth pulsed steadily within him, an energy that felt both comforting and extraordinary.
He closed his eyes and concentrated. Before him, a burst of golden light flared into existence. Its radiance was soft yet undeniable, swirling around him like liquid sunbeams.
For a brief moment, he wondered if this was the "Light" Shukumei had mentioned the same mysterious force said to reside within those destined for greatness.
Shaking off the lingering awe, Inochi rose from his futon.
He dressed in his usual training attire, secured his sword, and made his way to the kitchen, where the savory aroma of freshly prepared pancakes greeted him.
"Good morning, Mother Hamari," he said with a smile.
Hamari turned, offering him a warm nod. "Good morning, Inochi. Sit. I made your favorite."
Inochi took a seat, his eyes lighting up at the sight of the golden-brown pancakes stacked neatly on a plate. He bowed slightly in gratitude before beginning to eat, savoring each bite.
As he ate, his gaze swept the kitchen. Shukumei was absent. "Where is Sensei Shukumei today?" he asked aloud.
Hamari's expression softened. "He has gone to Yamata's house. The Hierarchy has convened to discuss matters concerning the Grandmaster of Fire. They are preparing plans, and Shukumei is overseeing it."
She paused, setting a hand on his shoulder. "He is also organizing the paperwork for ninjas from the Land of Darkness to participate in today's examinations. The Grandmaster of Darkness himself is expected to be present as well."
Inochi nodded thoughtfully. "The Grandmaster of Darkness… I've heard of him. They say he is unmatched in his wisdom and power, guarding the ninja world from forces hidden in the shadows."
Hamari smiled, gently urging him, "Finish your pancakes quickly, Inochi. You don't want to be late for practice."
As Inochi polished off the last bite, he noticed something unusual: tears glimmered on Hamari's cheeks. Concerned, he asked, "Mother, what's wrong?"
Hamari's voice was soft, tinged with emotion. "Inochi… your pratically my firstborn. I have watched you grow, seen you leave home with a smile, and I cannot help but worry if you'll always return safely."
Inochi leaned forward, a gentle grin on his face. "Have no fear, Mother Hamari. I am Inochi Yaskue, destined to be the next Grandmaster of the Land of Light."
He recounted what Shukumei had told him: one day, he would bring true peace to the ninja world and guide all into enlightenment.
This was his path, his responsibility.
He would succeed in the examinations, surpass Tosuke, and protect Kurai, the friend he had vowed to safeguard.
Hamari studied him, noting the determination in his eyes. "And Kurai?" she asked softly.
Inochi's gaze softened. "She is my umm she is my friend… someone I will always protect."
Hamari stood and embraced him tightly. "I love you, Inochi."
"I love you too, Mother," he replied, returning the hug with equal warmth. He added with a reassuring smile, "Don't worry.
If danger arises, I am more than capable of defending myself. And if needed, Shukumei or Tosuke will be there."
With that, he stepped away, waved goodbye, and left the house with a spring in his step.
ARRIVING AT THE WATERFALL
The familiar sound of cascading water welcomed him as he reached the waterfall. He expected Kenji Sensei to be there, yet the area was empty.
Then, a voice called from above.
"You finally arrived, Inochi."
Inochi looked up, startled. There, perched silently in the branches of a tree, was Kenji. "Kenji Sensei! I didn't even see you there!"
Kenji descended gracefully. "A true shinobi must master stealth, the art of greetings, and the skill to discern deception. Observation is key."
Inochi grinned. "Understood. Let's continue training!"
Kenji nodded. "From where we left off. Prepare yourself."
Inochi stripped off his shirt and moved to the waterfall, closing his eyes. He felt the energy pulsing through him, warm and familiar.
Drawing a deep breath, he formed the hand signs for the water-class mini tsunami technique.
The river responded, surging upward into a massive eight-foot wave. The growth startled Kenji. Yesterday, Inochi had managed only a five-foot swell.
Kenji's mind raced. Was this newfound power tied to the Light Dragon, or was it the legendary aura-manipulation prowess of the Yaskue Clan?
Inochi had only trained for two days, yet his water-class mastery was extraordinary.
INOCHI'S SELF-AWARENESS
Kenji's eyes softened. "Tell me, Inochi… have you felt something unusual within yourself?"
Inochi paused. "This morning, I did. I sensed warmth a golden light right before I opened my eyes. It felt alive… powerful. But whenever I tried to focus on it, it seemed to slip away."
Kenji's expression darkened slightly, a mixture of intrigue and approval. "That is the energy of the Light Dragon. Your strength comes not only from your own aura but also from the dragon's essence. This is why you can create such immense waves."
Inochi's eyes widened. "The Light Dragon… it exists within me?"
Kenji nodded. "Legendary beings like the Light Dragon have shaped the history of the ninja world. They possess immeasurable power and have often been used as weapons in past conflicts."
Inochi's jaw tightened with resolve. "Then I will wield this power to end the wars. I will bring peace."
Kenji smiled. "I believe you will. Your progress is remarkable, and I predict you will master the Elemental Dragon Technique faster than I did."
WATER-CLASS DRAGON BULLET
Kenji instructed Inochi to perform the Dragon Bullet technique. With focus, Inochi turned toward a tree, wove the proper hand signs, and channeled his aura into his hands.
A high-velocity sphere of water shot forward, puncturing the trunk. Inochi's face lit up with triumph.
Kenji laughed softly, reaching out to tousle Inochi's hair. "After all, you are Haru's son. Your potential is exceptional."
KENJI SENSEI VS INOCHI
Kenji's tone shifted to a challenge. "It is time to test your abilities. A practice fight. Use all the techniques you've learned. Push yourself—but remember, this is training."
Inochi's grip tightened around his sword. "I will not hold back, and I will not lose to you, Kenji Sensei."
Kenji nodded. "Good. But do not underestimate the lesson."
They lunged at each other simultaneously. Inochi's blade met Kenji's in a clash of steel, sparks flying. Kenji attempted a kick, which Inochi evaded, responding with a sweeping circle kick from the ground.
Kenji somersaulted back, conjuring a fire-class technique. Instantly, Inochi countered with his mini tsunami, sending the flames dissipating harmlessly into the river.
Taking advantage of the moment, Inochi vanished from sight, leapt from a tree, formed a sign, and unleashed a water-class Dragon Bullet aimed at Kenji.
The clone he targeted crumpled to the ground.
Inochi rushed forward, checking on Kenji. But instead of his sensei, he found only a metallic duplicate.
From behind, the real Kenji materialized. "Complacency will be your downfall," he said, knocking Inochi to the ground with a swift kick.
Inochi's eyes widened in shock. "How...? when...?"
Kenji chuckled. "A shinobi must see beyond deception. That clone was in place before the fight began. I observed everything from the tree. Your tactics are strong, but your confidence sometimes blinds you. Never assume a fight is over."
A LESSON LEARNED
Kenji helped Inochi to his feet. "Concentration, vigilance, and strategy these are as important as power.
You must always anticipate deception."
Inochi nodded, absorbing the lesson. "I understand, Sensei."
Kenji smiled warmly. "Tomorrow, we will begin training in lightning-class techniques.
I will demonstrate some offensive maneuvers that will push your abilities even further."
Inochi's chest swelled with anticipation. "I am ready."
With that, the two looked out over the waterfall, the sunlight sparkling against the rushing water. A bond between master and pupil, strengthened by challenge, discipline, and trust, had been forged anew.
And in Inochi's heart, the golden light of the Light Dragon pulsed brighter than ever.
