Chapter 28 - Inevitable Collision

HIKARI'S GENKAKU

As Ren collapses to the ground, Hikari steps forward and stands over her.

She grips Ren's head firmly her right eye beginning to bleed, crimson trailing down her cheek.

From a distance, Smoke notices immediately.

Juzo watches in silence, his eyes sharp and calculating.

The battlefield falls quiet.

Ren's fingers twitch.

Then... she smirks.

Her voice is calm… almost serene.

"It seems… you still don't understand."

REN REWRITES FATE

A faint crack echoes through the air.

Ren's voice follows:

"I will not die."

The space around them distorts.

Her gaze sharpens.

"Didn't I already tell you…? You are the one who dies."

Suddenly the world fractures.

Like glass shattering, the battlefield collapses inward, reality itself breaking apart.

Hikari steps back, stunned.

"…The blade… it's gone?"

Across from her Ren stands.

Unharmed.

Unshaken.

Watching.

Silence stretches between them.

Hikari clutches her bleeding eye.

"Is this… an illusion?"

Ren answers without hesitation:

"No."

THE POWER OF THE SHINOGAN

Ren's voice lowers.

"This… is a decision."

The wind begins to stir, lifting their hair and clothing.

The air shifts subtly, yet undeniably.

Ren studies Hikari closely.

Her posture. Her eyes. Her presence.

The power radiating from her Kokkorogan.

Then a realization.

She's really is still just a child…

REFLECTION

Ren's expression softens, if only slightly.

"Why do you fight?"

Hikari's grip loosens.

Her expression changes.

"My sister… she's already a shinobi."

Her eye remains closed, blood still trailing.

"If this war continues… she'll end up on battlefields like this."

A pause.

Ren looks down briefly.

"…Mine too."

Hikari continues, her voice steady.

"We were separated for a long time.

I'm not from the Land of Light… I come from the Kuraymai Village, in the Land of Shadows."

The wind grows stronger.

"Daku Hinotori sent me on missions when I was still young. I lived through conflict… before I even understood it."

Her voice softens.

"I lost my closest friend."

She lifts her head.

"But I still believe… this world can change."

Ren's eyes sharpen.

"Then why are we still fighting?"

HIKARI'S PAIN

Hikari clenches her fist.

"Because if I stop… she'll be the one standing here next."

Her voice trembles yet remains strong.

"My father was used as a tool. We lived in a world where peace was nothing but an illusion."

She exhales slowly.

"But even then… he fought to protect us.

He believed peace was still possible."

THE INEVITABLE TRUTH

Ren's gaze softens.

"You remind me of my little sister."

Hikari says nothing.

Only listens.

"She's a shinobi now too… and she wants to protect me."

Ren looks away.

"But I'll do anything to protect her."

A pause.

"If I fall… she'll be the one standing here next."

Silence.

Heavy.

Understanding begins to form between them.

PARALLEL HEARTS

For the first time... they see each other.

Not as enemies.

But as reflections.

Two paths.

One truth.

Neither truly wanting to fight.

INTERRUPTED

"Hey! Ren!" Juzo shouts from afar.

"What's going on?!"

Ren slowly sheathes her sword.

"We're not fighting."

Juzo's expression twists in confusion.

"What are you talking about?

We're in the middle of a war! Orders came from the Grandmaster!"

His voice rises.

"Have you lost your mind?"

EMOTION OVER DUTY

Ren exhales, glancing at Hikari.

For a moment she doesn't see an enemy.

She sees her sister.

"No…"

Her voice is firm.

"I won't fight her."

REN'S DECISION

Ren turns to Juzo.

"She isn't our enemy."

The air distorts subtly once more.

Juzo pauses.

Then exhales.

"…I understand."

He lowers his stance.

A BOND FORMED

Hikari's eyes widen slightly.

Emotion overtakes her.

Tears begin to fall.

Ren turns away.

Without another word she and Juzo leap from the battlefield, disappearing into the distance.

AFTERMATH

Hikari drops to her knees, clutching her eye.

Her breathing is heavy.

Smoke rushes to her side, crouching down.

"Are you alright?"

Hikari nods weakly.

"I'm… okay."

Smoke studies her condition.

"You overused your Kokkorogan."

His tone grows serious.

"Don't use that technique again not like that. We don't know what it'll do to your eye."

Hikari exhales.

"…I know."

She's exhausted.

Drained.

THE POWER OF UNDERSTANDING

Smoke looks at her.

"What happened? Why did they retreat?"

Hikari pauses.

Then answers softly:

"We're the same."

She looks down.

"We both have little sisters… and we're both fighting to protect them."

A quiet moment passes.

"She fights for her sister… and for her nation. Because if she doesn't… her sister will end up here too."

Smoke looks at her, thoughtful.

"…Fighting for someone you love, huh?"

He smiles faintly.

"You didn't just win that battle with power… you reached her."

He pauses.

"You changed her heart."

A QUIET SMILE

Hikari lets out a small laugh, her eye still closed.

A genuine smile forms.

Smoke helps her to her feet.

She steadies herself.

"…Thank you, Sensei."

He nods.

"Stay focused. This isn't over yet."

JUZO AND REN — RETREAT

Far from the battlefield Juzo suddenly stops mid-motion.

"…Ren i know you used your Shinogan on me"

Ren remains silent.

"You made us retreat," he continues.

"Why?"

Ren finally speaks.

"Because this war isn't as simple as we thought."

Juzo listens.

Carefully.

As she explains understanding begins to form.

Still, he sighs.

"The Monkey King won't let this slide."

Ren's gaze hardens.

"Leave that to me."

A pause.

"I have a plan."

Juzo nods.

Trusting her.

Without another word he turns, heading back toward the Land of Fire.

Ren lingers for a moment longer.

Then disappears into the wind.
