Chapter 15 - THE WEIGHT OF THE PAST

Chapter: The Weight of the Past

Keifer's POV

The night air in Seoul felt heavier than usual.

Maybe it was because the stadium lights were still blazing behind them, or maybe it was because the entire world had just witnessed something unbelievable.

More than 70,000 people had watched a masked singer remove her identity on stage.

The internet was exploding.

Fans were screaming online.

Music critics were already calling it the most shocking reveal in music history.

But Keifer didn't care about the headlines.

He didn't care about the fans.

He didn't even care about the music.

Because the woman standing on that stage tonight…

Was Jay.

The girl they betrayed.

The girl they destroyed.

The girl who disappeared from their lives eleven years ago.

And somehow—

She had become Jae Rin.

The Stadium Exit

Crowds were still pouring out of the massive stadium.

Fans were crying.

Laughing.

Screaming.

Everyone was talking about the same moment.

"The mask drop!"

"Did you see her hair?!"

"She's so beautiful!"

"That rap was insane!"

But none of those voices mattered to Keifer.

He walked silently beside the others from Section E.

Ci-n looked stunned.

Angelo looked tense.

And Aries…

Aries looked furious.

The silence between them felt suffocating.

Finally Ci-n spoke.

"I still can't believe that was Jay."

No one answered.

Ci-n continued quietly.

"We spent eleven years thinking she vanished."

Angelo sighed.

"She didn't vanish."

"She survived."

Keifer clenched his fists slightly.

Those words hit deeper than Angelo probably realized.

Because surviving meant something else too.

It meant she had survived them.

The Rap That Changed Everything

The sound of her rap still echoed in Keifer's head.

The beat had dropped.

The crowd had screamed.

And then Jae Rin's voice had cut through the stadium like lightning.

Fast.

Sharp.

Unstoppable.

Keifer had felt his chest tighten the moment she started rapping.

Because the confidence in her voice was unmistakable.

That attitude.

That fire.

That refusal to be small.

That had always been Jay.

Even back in school.

She had never backed down from anyone.

Not teachers.

Not classmates.

Not even him.

Ci-n suddenly laughed softly.

"She always said she'd prove everyone wrong."

Angelo looked at him.

"She did more than that."

Ci-n nodded slowly.

"She conquered the world."

Keifer said nothing.

Because while everyone else saw a superstar on stage…

He saw the girl who once stood alone in their classroom while everyone accused her of lies.

Aries' Anger

They reached the parking area.

Aries stopped walking abruptly.

His hands were clenched so tightly his knuckles looked white.

Ci-n frowned.

"Say something."

Aries turned sharply.

"What do you want me to say?"

Ci-n crossed his arms.

"Maybe start with the fact that your sister just revealed herself to the entire world."

Aries' eyes darkened.

"She's not my sister."

The words landed like a punch.

Keifer's stomach twisted.

Even after all these years…

Aries still refused to accept her.

Angelo stepped forward.

"Aries…"

But Aries interrupted him.

"No."

His voice was cold.

"She stopped being my sister the moment she brought shame to this family."

Ci-n stared at him in disbelief.

"Are you serious right now?"

Aries didn't respond.

Instead he looked toward the glowing stadium lights.

"That girl on stage…"

"…is not the Jay I knew."

Keifer finally spoke.

"You're right."

Everyone turned toward him.

Keifer's voice was low.

"She isn't."

He looked toward the stadium too.

"The Jay you knew was alone."

"The Jay you knew had no one defending her."

"The Jay you knew was betrayed by everyone in Section E."

The silence that followed was heavy.

Aries' jaw tightened.

"You're acting like you weren't part of that."

Keifer didn't deny it.

"I was."

And those two words carried more guilt than anything else he could have said.

The Truth About Yuri Hanamitchi

Angelo suddenly ran a hand through his hair.

"Enough."

Ci-n looked at him.

"No. It's not enough."

"You forced Jay into a marriage."

Angelo's expression hardened.

"I did what I had to do."

Keifer turned toward him slowly.

"Say that again."

Angelo met his gaze.

"My company was collapsing."

"The Hanamitchi family offered help."

Ci-n frowned.

"So you offered Jay?"

Angelo didn't answer immediately.

Then he said quietly,

"It was supposed to save everything."

The name Yuri Hanamitchi hung heavily in the air.

One of the richest families in the country.

Cold.

Powerful.

Dangerous.

Keifer's fists tightened.

"She was eighteen."

Angelo looked away.

"I know."

"You tried to sell her future."

Angelo snapped.

"I tried to save hundreds of employees who would've lost their jobs!"

The anger in his voice shocked them all.

"I was desperate."

Ci-n shook his head slowly.

"So Jay paid the price for your desperation."

Angelo's voice dropped.

"The engagement never happened."

Keifer's eyes narrowed.

"What?"

"She disappeared before the ceremony."

The parking lot fell silent again.

Aries spoke quietly.

"So that's why she ran."

Angelo nodded once.

"Yes."

The Night Everything Broke

Memories flooded Keifer's mind.

The classroom.

The accusations.

The rumors spreading like wildfire.

Jay standing in front of everyone, trying to explain.

And him…

Standing there.

Silent.

Doubting her.

That moment replayed in his mind again and again.

Ci-n spoke quietly.

"I remember the day she left."

Aries looked away.

Keifer closed his eyes briefly.

Because he remembered it too.

Jay had walked out of the school gates without saying goodbye.

Without looking back.

And no one had stopped her.

Not him.

Not Section E.

Not even Aries.

They had simply watched her go.

The Realization

A huge billboard across the street suddenly lit up.

Jae Rin's face appeared.

Her long silky hair flowing behind her.

The clip showed the moment she flipped her hair during the rap and the mask fell.

Fans screamed in the video.

Ci-n stared at the screen.

"She looks so different."

Angelo nodded.

"But the eyes are the same."

Keifer watched the clip silently.

She looked powerful.

Untouchable.

Nothing like the girl who once cried alone in the hallway.

And suddenly a painful realization hit him.

Jay hadn't disappeared because she was weak.

She disappeared because she refused to stay where she wasn't wanted.

She left.

And built a world where no one could hurt her again.

Ci-n whispered,

"She didn't need us."

Keifer replied quietly,

"No."

"She needed us back then."

"And we failed her."

The Boyfriend

Ci-n suddenly remembered something.

"Wait."

He turned to Keifer.

"You haven't said anything about the boyfriend."

Keifer's expression hardened instantly.

Min Jae.

The man who walked on stage beside her.

The man she held hands with.

The man she introduced to seventy thousand people.

Angelo sighed.

"I saw the way you looked at him."

Keifer pulled out his phone.

Opened a screen.

Typed the name.

Ci-n groaned.

"You're doing it again."

"Yes."

"You're running background checks."

"Yes."

Ci-n rubbed his forehead.

"You're unbelievable."

Keifer ignored him and continued scrolling.

Information about Min Jae filled the screen.

Composer.

Producer.

Worked with Jae Rin for years.

Multiple awards.

Clean reputation.

Respected in the music industry.

Angelo leaned closer.

"Well?"

Keifer's jaw tightened.

"He's perfect."

Ci-n smirked.

"That bothers you."

Keifer didn't deny it.

Because the truth was simple.

While they were busy destroying Jay's life—

Min Jae had been there helping her rebuild it.

And that thought hurt more than anything else.

The Guilt

The group eventually fell silent again.

The stadium lights behind them slowly started turning off.

Fans were leaving.

The noise faded.

Ci-n finally spoke again.

"What if she never forgives us?"

No one answered.

Because they had all asked themselves the same question.

Aries looked toward the ground.

"She shouldn't."

Angelo nodded slowly.

"He's right."

Keifer swallowed the bitterness in his throat.

They didn't deserve forgiveness.

Not after what they did.

Ci-n whispered,

"We broke her."

Keifer shook his head.

"No."

He looked at the giant billboard showing Jae Rin's concert.

"We tried to break her."

"But she became stronger instead."

Alone With His Thoughts

Later that night, Keifer stood alone on the balcony of his hotel room.

The city lights of Seoul stretched endlessly in front of him.

Somewhere out there—

Jay was alive.

Not the broken girl he remembered.

But a woman who could command 70,000 people with a single song.

He pulled out his phone again.

The concert clip played once more.

Her rap.

Her hair flip.

The mask falling.

The crowd screaming.

And then—

Her smile.

For a moment Keifer simply stared at the screen.

Then he whispered quietly,

"You did it."

Jay had escaped everything they tried to trap her in.

The lies.

The betrayal.

The forced marriage.

The rejection from her own brother.

She had survived all of it.

And somehow became something even greater.

A legend.

Keifer leaned against the railing and closed his eyes.

The guilt was still there.

Heavy.

Unforgiving.

Because the truth was simple.

The girl he once loved…

Had needed him the most when everyone else turned against her.

And he had failed her.

Now she had an entirely new life.

A new world.

New people.

And maybe…

A new love.

Keifer opened his eyes again and looked toward the glowing skyline.

His voice was quiet but determined.

"I finally found you, Jay."

Eleven years of searching had finally ended.

But the real question now wasn't where she was.

The real question was something far more terrifying.

Would Jay ever allow the people who betrayed her…

Back into her life?
