The last time I'd entered the Council Chamber, I was terrified and believed that I had no right to be there. Although that impression had corrected itself, I was still a bit pensive as I strolled in with Nala and Tala by my side. As always, the elders' gazes followed my every step, but this time, I noted the hint of self-satisfaction and glee in their postures. My wolf stirred uneasily beneath my skin. Something was wrong.
I allowed my gaze to sweep the chamber slowly, deliberately, acknowledging each of them with cool indifference. Nothing seemed out of place, but something or someone was missing. My eyes narrowed slightly at the only empty place at the table. Wasn't that spot reserved for the Beta? I looked around again, and Corvin was nowhere to be found. Interesting. Very interesting.
My gaze drifted quietly to Nala, who met my eyes for only a fraction of a second, then bowed her head and slipped out of the Chamber.
