By the time I reached my office, my irritation from the council meeting had dissipated. I could already imagine the chaos unfolding inside the council chamber. Once again, their carefully arranged plan had fallen apart because of me. I hated how the elders dared to speak about my marriage and heirs as if my life were some breeding contract they had the authority to sign. Oh, I was going to deal with them.
I walked behind the desk and lowered myself into the chair, rubbing the bridge of my nose slowly.
The door opened again, and Nala stepped inside.
"Alpha." She bowed slightly.
"Well?"
"The Beta left the territory early this morning."
My eyes narrowed slightly.
"He informed the patrol guards at the eastern gate that he was traveling to visit associates in a neighboring pack." She continued.
Her tone made it very clear she believed that explanation about as much as I did.
