The chain attached to my collar rattled with every step as the guard dragged me through the corridor. I already knew who my visitor was. It could be no other person than Lilith. She was probably here to see the results of her decision and gloat at my misfortune.
The guard yanked the chain, forcing me forward when my steps slowed. We reached a heavy iron door at the end of the corridor. The guard shoved it open and pushed me inside.
Grunting, I stumbled forward. The room was dimly lit, though far cleaner than the mines. A single table stood in the center, flanked by two chairs. I squinted to get a clearer version of the tall finger backing me. That definitely wasn't Lilith. Unfortunately, the poisonous air in the Mines had already dulled my senses, and so I couldn't place the scent of the person standing before me.
Slowly, he turned, and I found myself staring at Corvin, my Beta.
