Van did not run. He walked. Each step down the hallway seemed measured, but anyone who knew him well would understand at first glance that he was barely holding himself together. His facial expression alone gave that away. Van had never looked so worried. He had never been worried about anything until now, until he could no longer see her face, especially with his father here. They were very alike in the sense that neither of them could tell what the other was planning. Van had learned that very skill from him.
"Find Jade," he repeated into the earpiece, his voice low, but he got no response. That alone made his heart throb, not out of fear, but from the uncertainty of the situation. John and Eden never went silent unless something was wrong, very wrong.
