Aurora raised her spoon and scooped a bite.
The taste of spices, meat, oil, and rice exploded in her mouth. She closed her eyes as she thought that this was the most delicious thing she had ever eaten.
Back then, she was only allowed to eat porridge—a meal made by mixing rice and water. Bits of meat and vegetables were added. And if she were lucky, a freshly cooked slice of meat or fish would be added to her plate.
Dominik told her that being greedy for food was bad. He ensured that she wouldn't gain weight.
She didn't think anything of it then.
When she was back home, she would eat one or two meals a day because they couldn't afford anymore. As the eldest of her siblings, she had to share some of her own food with her young siblings.
So, having three meals a day was already a luxury for her. Sometimes, one of the housekeepers would sneak a snack for her to eat.
So, being given a full plate of food that wasn't porridge was a miracle for her.
