The forest finally opened up into rolling fields, and in the distance, Elior spotted the rooftops of a small town.
"Willowbrook," he whispered, reading the wooden sign at the entrance.
Pyrolyn's flame flickered with relief, Voltiger's sparks dimmed slightly, and Lunashade padded at his side, tail flicking with curiosity.
The town was peaceful, quiet, and cozy. Wooden cottages lined cobblestone streets, and the smell of fresh bread and wildflowers hung in the air. Elior breathed deeply. For the first time in days, he felt a glimmer of calm.
As Elior wandered through the market, a boy around his age ran past him, chasing after a playful Eevee.
"Hey! You're a trainer, right?" the boy asked, stopping in front of him.
Elior blinked. "Yes… and you are?"
"I'm Alex," the boy said, grinning. "I live here in Willowbrook. And I think I just found someone to explore the town with me!"
Elior smiled. "I'm Elior. Nice to meet you."
Alex's eyes widened as he glanced at Elior's team. "Wow! Pyrolyn, Voltiger… and a fox Pokémon? That's Lunashade, right?"
Lunashade tilted its head curiously at Alex, its silvery fur glinting in the sunlight. Pyrolyn's flame flickered proudly, Voltiger gave a spark of excitement.
"You travel alone?" Alex asked.
"Yes," Elior admitted. "I'm on my way to Windfall City… the second Gym."
Alex's grin widened. "That's far! Lucky for you, I know this town better than anyone. Come on—I'll show you around."
Together, they explored Willowbrook. Alex showed him the local market, the river behind the town, and a small field where trainers practiced their Pokémon skills.
As the sun began to set, Elior and Alex walked toward the edge of town. The shadows grew long, and the air suddenly felt colder.
From behind a cluster of trees, a figure appeared: a Pokémon unlike any Elior had seen.
It was tall and sleek, with armored fur that shimmered like black steel, and eyes that glowed faintly gold. Its presence radiated strength and vigilance.
Pyrolyn growled softly. Voltiger's fur bristled. Lunashade crouched, tail low, observing.
"What… is that?" Alex whispered.
Elior's heart raced. The Pokémon was not attacking. It simply stood, watching, as if guarding something unseen.
Then, almost as if it sensed Elior's intentions, it shifted slightly, circling the clearing. Its movements were precise, controlled, protective.
Elior realized slowly: this Pokémon was a guardian—a protector of something far more powerful, something hidden.
"Stay calm," he said to his team. "It's not attacking… but it's testing us."
Elior knelt slightly and extended his hand. "We don't want to fight. We just… want to be your friends."
The guardian Pokémon tilted its head. Its golden eyes studied him, glowing brighter for a brief moment.
Suddenly, a group of wild Pokémon—a pack of aggressive Houndoom—burst from the nearby woods, moving toward Willowbrook.
Pyrolyn stepped forward instinctively, flames ready. Voltiger's sparks lit the field. Lunashade crouched, ready to strike.
The guardian didn't attack Elior's team. Instead, it intercepted the wild Pokémon, using precise strikes to push them back and protect both the town and Elior's team.
Elior watched, awe-struck. This Pokémon wasn't the Legendary itself—it was something else entirely. A protector. Loyal, disciplined, powerful.
When the wild Pokémon retreated, the guardian froze again, watching Elior carefully.
Elior whispered, "I understand… you're not the one we're looking for… but you're important. Maybe one day we'll meet again."
The guardian gave a subtle nod before disappearing silently into the forest, leaving behind only the faint shimmer of golden light.
Alex stared at Elior, wide-eyed. "That… was incredible. I've never seen a Pokémon like that before. Are you sure it's not a Legendary?"
"No," Elior said. "But it's protecting something—or someone—that is. And it knows more than we do."
Elior looked down at Lunashade, Pyrolyn, and Voltiger. "We have to be ready for anything. This journey isn't over… it's just beginning."
Alex grinned. "If you ever come back to Willowbrook, let me know. Maybe I can help with the next mystery."
Elior smiled. "I'll remember that."
With that, he and his team continued down the road toward Windfall City, the sun setting behind them, and a new sense of determination in their hearts.
High above, hidden in the forest, the cloaked figure watched once more.
"The boy is growing… stronger than we expected," a quiet voice said. "Let's see how he handles what comes next."
And the journey continues...
