001.9 - Kar-Durath

Carved directly into the largest central peak of the range, Kar-Durath is the undisputed capital of the Ironveil Range.

It is not visible from afar like Nolvaris.

It reveals itself only when one stands before it.

Massive stone gates — hundreds of feet tall — are embedded seamlessly into the mountain's face. The gates are layered with rune-forged metal bands and Aether-dampening sigils.

Above them burns a permanent forge-flame that has not extinguished in two centuries.

The flame is symbolic.

And functional.

Kar-Durath is built vertically as much as horizontally.

The Upper Holds

- Trade halls

- Forge districts

- Assembly chambers

- Military barracks

- Envoy quarters for foreign diplomats

Here, alliances are negotiated and Rift-resistant weapons are forged.

The Middle Ring

- Clan estates

- Archive vaults

- Spire-component workshops

- Seismic monitoring chambers

This level hums with controlled industry.

The Deep Vaults

- Ancient pre-Awakening archives

- Experimental alloy chambers

- Sealed tunnels reinforced with blackstone

- The Gate of Stonewake

Access is heavily restricted.

Only the High Forgeborn and select Assembly members may descend fully.

The Ironveil Assembly

Kar-Durath is ruled by the Ironveil Assembly, a council of the most powerful clan lords and master smiths.

At its head stands the High Forgeborn, chosen not by inheritance, but by unanimous Assembly vote.

Their authority is practical, not ceremonial.

If the High Forgeborn loses the confidence of the Assembly, they are replaced.

Efficiency over legacy.

Always.

Rift-Tempered Industry

Kar-Durath is responsible for:

- The alloy used in Aegis Spire frameworks

- Reinforced sigilstone bracing

- Aether-dampening armor plating

- Specialized anti-aberrant weaponry

Without Kar-Durath, the Spires would not stand.

Without the Spires, Nolvaris would fall.

This balance gives the dwarves leverage.

They rarely exploit it openly.

Kar-Durath's Reputation

To Vlodea:

A necessary ally — and a potential rival.

To the Verdant Expanse:

A people who dig too greedily.

To the Dawnward Dominion:

A mountain wall blocking expansion.

To the Frostcrown watchers:

A pressure point in the earth's bones.
