Chapter 4 - Petals on a Dead Goddess

" World floods, plagues, war, these are only some of the calamities the vampire king has brought upon this world." A silver hooded man spoke, his voice cracking with age. A group of older men and women sit in a half circle at an ancient, giant oak table. Goblet of wine sit next to modern cellphones and notepads.

Marshall sat across these silver lined elders, his clothing from the treck through the amazon still unchanged from their recent arrival. Smiles of pride and excitement line the mouths of the older humans sitting in front of him. The oldest looking man from earlier adjusted his throat and motioned for Marshall to speak.

" We discovered the coffin about 200 miles deep into the unexplored location of the Amazon Rainforest. Multiple forms of evidence point to the elves being involved with hiding it. With there magic covering most of the entrances as well as the coffin itself. Seth is currently working on the last of the magic to open it but its been hard due to the use of Elvin metals as well." Mumbles spread throughout the room.

" Let us know when it is opened but keep whats inside to those in the room. We must figure out why the elves hid this weapon insteas of using it" another elder, one less hourse than the last spoke before others.

The cloaked men nodded in agreement, " go now and help the young mage" another one spoke as they waved their hand towards the door out. The oldest of the group smiling at him before waving him out as well.

Marshall bowed deeply before turning and leaving through the large stone door. Marshall stretched his firm and fit arms over his head, a groan of needing a day off coming from his mouth. He didnt really understand how something or someone in a coffin could help defeat a creature that was this hard to kill. Even marshall himself had cut the things arm off just to see it grow back in front of him

" Elders again?" a red headed man with a thin build elbows into Marshall as soon as he closes the large doors behind him. He nudges the man back before nodding and chuckling. " Maive, who let you out of the magic tower?" Marshall jokes familiar with the slightly younger man next to him. The shaggy red headed Maiven groans at the mention of anything to do with his work.

" They just don't understand that because I have a large aura doesn't mean that I can't take breaks." the man shrugged before curiously looking back at Marshall. " what" he asks, already figuring the question involved the coffin.

The entirety of the organization was buzzing about the new find. Everyone seemed to want a piece or the project just so they could possible get to see what this almighty weapon might hold. Though Marshall seemed sure it was simply a weapon amongst a dead warrior as they always seemed to be.

Marshall had plenty of experience with the supernatural and unknown creatures that hide from humanity. He had been adopted and raised amongst this place just as all the recruits were. Orphans of disasters and chaos, those who fight to keep the other worlds hidden from humans, to keep peace. This is what he had grown up to be, a warrior of secrets and monsters and that made him proud to be who he was.

" hey hey, can I see the opening, I'm dying to find out what you brought back, and the guys at the tower will not stop asking me since I know you." Maiven pestered, breaking Marshall from his thoughts.

He sighs and runs a hand through his hair, using the walk back to the coffins location as an excuse to not answer right away. " Fine but you can't say anything to anyone." Marshall finally answered. The glee was obvious from Maive as he jumps a bit like an excited child when everyone knew he was just a curious brain.

The man couldn't go a day with out researching something new or old. He spends most of his time in the witches tower, where they work him to the bone for new magical artifacts. Maiven would eventually be brought in to look at the item they found either way so Marshall knew it wouldn't bother anyone.

The organizations clean, modern hallways blended as the two men passed through. People they passed nodded their head in respect for Marshall, he was on the track to being an elder so most tried to stay on his good side.

They came to a stop after a few more right turns and now stood in front of an elevator with a pass code. Marshall pushes in the numbers he's memorized for years and proceeded to board with Maive. The two men hardly far away from each other as the elevators size didn't pay any mind to them.

Maiven's curiosity kept him quiet, an uncommon behavior of his unless he was highly interested in something. While Marshall turned on work mode once again before the doors of the elevator opened.

A large modern, windowless room expanded in front of them as the metal doors opened. Seth sat with a towel over his face, leaning back in a chair at a table and computer that sat near the elevator. " tough day?" Marshall asked, causing the young man to startle, his dark hard falling around his face.

" don't talk to me unless you have food or an aura potion." was all Seth replied as he kept his head leaned back with the towel over his face.

" how much aura did you use on this thing?" Maiven asked as he looks over the elven metal coffin in the center of the room. Seth groaned under the towel, the sound uncommon from a rather quiet and private man.

" you don't even want to know, I had to take this things defence down, I haven't seen runes like this before." Seth complains as Maivens eyes seem to glimmer with the idea of runes he hadn't known.

Looking over the coffin he can still see some traces of the runes. " these are ancient ancient runes, I've only seen one text at the tower describe something like this." His voice awed. " I don't care how ancient they are, they were a pain in my ass" Seth grumbled before throwing his towel at Maive.

Marshall rolls his eyes as he moves towards the coffin where Maiven continued to examine the remains of the now broken magic. " Move" Marshal said while popping knuckles and stretching his fit arms. Maive looks at Marshall with a researchers pleading eyes.

"Please try to not destroy the coffin, I really want to examine it more" he pleads laying his body over top of it. Marshal rolls his eyes again but nodds. " whatever just move so it doesn't land on your foot or something."

Maiven made a woeful face but moved to lean against the table Seth was still sitting at. Bickering continued behind Marshall as he readied himself to try and open the coffin. His strong hands press against the cold steel like metal, the weight of the lid more then he would have thought.

Pushing with all his might, the metal finally started to budge, scraping against itself with an eerily loud scream. The men behind him covered their ears from the noise, staring daggers at the back of the man moving the metal.

Finally the head of the intricately made coffin started opening at an angle, that was all Marshall could muster before he had to take a moment to breathe and ease his burning muscles. " damn this thing is hea…"

The two men noticed him pause, something the oh so great Marshal hardly does. " what is it? A sword, an artifact, a tome?" Maiven hurriedly moves forward towards the coffin and the silent man standing at the head of it.

Ignoring the noise of his friend, Marshal could only focus on what was in front of him. Lying in the coffin he had expected bones and an item but what lay amongst the old red fabric was not that. " A woman?" Maiven stopped speaking for a moment as the two men stare down at the body of the most beautiful woman they had ever seen.

The tingling that kept buzzing more and more in Marshall's brain seemed to turn into full blown ringing as he stared at the face of this woman. Her hair an otherworldly pale white, even her long eyelashes were as pale as her.
