"Uuuugh! Enough of thaaat!" I groaned, throwing my head back in mock agony.
"Xav? What are you doing here?" Suddenly, a man approached us from my left side. He scanned me with a judgmental, sharp intensity before focusing his full attention on Xavier. "How come I see you here of all places but can't catch you on the phone?"
"The pubs are close, that's why." Xavier's response was sharp, his eyes narrowing at the newcomer.
"Ah, so... you're leaving with this guy? What's your name? Let me tell you, he's quite good, fufu."
"Uh, no. I'm not—"
"Don't say stuff like that, Alex. It's none of your business either."
"Why? I'm just being nice. I know very well from experience." Seeing how Xavier and this so-called Alex were talking made me realise that something had definitely been going on between them. While hanging out in gay bars, I'd learned they tend to have friends with benefits more often than formal couples.
"We've known each other for years, haven't we?"
