I had a terrible time falling asleep. My body was exhausted, but my mind refused to shut down. Consequently, I slept in for the first time in forever, leaving for work dangerously late. I was practically sprinting.
I knew I shouldn't have stayed up!! This is all Ruben's and Xavier's fault!!!
I threw on my clothes and thanked my lucky stars that I'd mastered the art of quick makeup. I rushed out of the house, nearly tumbling down the stairs in my haste. If I ran, I might just catch the next bus.
"Oh? Layna, honey, did you sleep in—" I heard my mother call out as I bolted through the door. I didn't have time for breakfast, nor could I grab the lunch she'd promised to make to help me save money this week. I'd spent far too much of my last paycheck on new clothes.
Sorry, Mum! But my job's on the line! I apologised silently as I sprinted down the pavement.
