Breathing in deeply, I tried to relax and hurried to leave the area, managing to calm down by the time I got home. We had dinner, and I told Mum, Dad, and John that Mason would be coming tomorrow for lunch to stay for the afternoon. Happy to hear the news, Mum immediately started to plan the menu.
"It's been so long!" Mum chirped, her face lighting up with a warm, maternal glow. "Our Mason! He likes lasagne. Do we have enough cheese, honey?"
"If we don't, I can go buy some in the morning, dear. Don't worry," Dad replied, patting her hand.
"Noice! Thanks to Mason, we'll be eating well tomorrow. My mate saves another day."
"Say that to him tomorrow as well," I told John, who was clearly more excited about the food than the guest. "Actually, he's probably been feeling down lately. Seems like it didn't work out with the guy he was seeing, so—let's be nice to him tomorrow."
"Oh, is that how it is, sweetie?" Mum asked, her voice laced with concern.
