Chapter 21 - The Dark Moon Greatsword

Luo Yu was already aware that there were wraiths in Miko Yotsuya's house. He still remembered parts of the story from the anime.

If his memory served him correctly, Miko's father had already passed away. The figure in her home now—her "father"—was actually a lingering spirit.

However, it had not transformed into a malicious wraith. Instead, it resembled something closer to a bound spirit, maintaining the appearance it had in life.

After thinking for a moment, Luo Yu said, "It's not a big problem. I'll seal your spiritual sight again. That way, even if something is in your house, you won't see it. And tonight, if there are any wraiths in your room, I'll deal with them directly."

Miko looked hopeful. She had always feared that her ability to see spirits might one day expose her family to danger if hostile wraiths discovered her gift.

But when she thought about her father, she hesitated before finally speaking.

When Ranni heard about Miko's father, she seemed slightly surprised and looked at Luo Yu.

"My king, are there souls here that do not become wraiths?"

Luo Yu raised a finger thoughtfully.

"I believe it depends on a person's lingering attachment in life. After death, some souls remain because of their attachment to loved ones or unfinished feelings. Others remain because of hatred or resentment. If the attachment is kind rather than malicious, they probably won't become wraiths. However, they also won't possess the aggressive strength those darker spirits have. Miko Yotsuya's father likely became something similar to a bound spirit or guardian spirit due to his lingering attachment."

When he finished speaking, he looked toward Miko.

Miko blinked, and realization quickly dawned on her. Her eyes slowly grew moist.

"Before my father passed away… we had an argument. I never forgave him, and I refused to speak to him. Later, when I wanted to apologize… it was already too late."

Just as he thought.

Luo Yu nodded and folded his arms.

"For spirits like bound spirits or guardian spirits, I don't know what happens after their attachment is fulfilled. Perhaps they pass on, perhaps they are reborn. Tonight, if you want, we can help you reconcile with him."

Miko wiped her eyes and shook her head.

"Not for now. There's also a huge wraith near my father—something like a giant beast. I don't know what it wants to do. Tonight, please come find me. I want to come out. I want to learn magic."

"Then it's settled," Luo Yu said. "Let's set a time. Midnight—we'll come get you."

Miko nodded firmly. "Then eleven o'clock. I'll be ready."

After agreeing on the time, Ranni once again used her magic to suppress Miko's spiritual sight. With that done, Miko said her goodbyes and left.

Once she departed, the house returned to its usual quiet with only Luo Yu and Ranni remaining.

Pointing to the computer parts stacked in the corner of the living room, Luo Yu said, "Ranni, could you help me carry those upstairs? I'll start preparing dinner."

Ranni nodded. She also noticed the two hitbox controller boxes resting on top of the computer case.

Taking out her Carian Regal Scepter, she lifted the components with magic and effortlessly carried them upstairs.

Meanwhile, Luo Yu rolled up his sleeves and began preparing dinner.

By six in the evening, the two of them had finished a hearty meal and went upstairs.

At last, Luo Yu had time to open the packaging for the computer components and assemble the second machine.

Ranni, meanwhile, had already opened one of the hitbox controllers, connected it to the computer, and was enthusiastically practicing.

Since he had assembled one the day before, putting together the second computer with identical parts was easy for Luo Yu—faster than the previous time.

After finishing, he glanced at the computer sitting temporarily in the hallway outside the room and said, "Ranni, should we move the computers into the empty room? If we place them side by side, we'll have more space."

After finishing a match, Ranni thought for a moment and exited the game.

"That works. Let's move them."

They shut down the computer and carried everything into the empty room next door together.

From now on, this would be their shared entertainment room.

Looking around, Ranni noticed the room's only piece of furniture—a large bookshelf.

"This shelf could hold books," she said. "My king, are there places here with many books?"

"Of course."

While connecting cables to the computer, Luo Yu replied, "There's the city library. It has a huge collection, though most books can only be borrowed temporarily. If you want to own them, you can buy them from bookstores—there are plenty around. So, you want to read? When we have a day off, I'll take you out and we can buy whatever books interest you. Or you can purchase digital books online. I forgot to buy you a tablet—reading on a phone screen is a bit small. I'll get one tomorrow."

Ranni had no experience with such things and naturally accepted his arrangements.

Soon the computer was fully assembled. Luo Yu let Ranni continue using the previous one while he installed the operating system on the new machine and worked on his homework.

Half an hour later, his homework was finished, and the system installation had long been completed. With some time left before they needed to leave, Luo Yu began installing various software programs.

As for downloading games, Ranni was still playing, so he avoided using too much bandwidth.

After installing the programs, creating accounts, and purchasing a few games he wanted, Luo Yu found himself with nothing else to do.

Stretching lazily, he summoned one of his favorite weapons.

The Dark Moon Greatsword.

Its azure blade shimmered faintly, releasing subtle waves of magic. Holding the weapon in his hand made Luo Yu feel an irresistible urge to unleash a few arcs of moonlight.

Noticing the appearance of the Dark Moon Greatsword, Ranni turned her head.

"My king, do you intend to use that tonight? Would that not be somewhat excessive?"

Luo Yu laughed.

"I've been using magic the past few days. It's only fair to use something different for a change. As for magic—you can handle that, just like when we fought Miquella before."

Ranni recalled that battle and met his gaze with a faint smile.

"That was certainly a memorable fight—and a difficult victory. However, I doubt tonight's enemy will require both of us to act."

Luo Yu chuckled.

"That's true."

After wiping the blade of the Dark Moon Greatsword, he stored it away and began checking the rest of the weapons he commonly used.
