Chapter 16 - Chapter 16: A seed planted

They stayed locked together long after the last tremor faded.

Sam's cock was still half-hard, thick and heavy, remained buried deep inside her, plugging the flood of his seed so that only the occasional slow trickle escaped to dampen her inner thighs and the blankets beneath them. Elena curled against his chest, one leg hooked over his hip, her cheek pressed to the steady thud of his heartbeat. His arms wrapped loosely around her, one hand splayed protectively over the small of her back.

Neither spoke.

The dying embers cast the faintest red glow across their entwined bodies.

Exhaustion claimed them both at once, deep, dreamless sleep wrapping around them like another blanket.

Morning came soft and gray through the cracked windows of the ruined store.

The first pale light filtered in, painting thin stripes across the floor.

Sam stirred first.

His eyes cracked open to the sight of Elena's dark hair fanned across his shoulder, her breathing slow and even. He felt her warmth, the gentle clasp of her walls still hugging him even in sleep, the slick, heavy fullness of his own release still trapped inside her.

He shifted carefully, slowly so as not to wake her or the children.

As he began to ease out, the thick length dragged along her sensitive inner walls.

A long, wet sound filled the quiet, prrrrrtt… schlop… plop.

The fat head finally slipped free with a final obscene suck, followed by a thick gush of his seed spilling from her stretched entrance. It poured in sluggish, creamy ropes down her thighs, pooling warm and sticky between them before dripping onto the blanket in heavy patters.

Elena's breath hitched softly, she was awake now but she kept her eyes closed, pretending still to sleep, letting him think she hadn't felt every inch of his withdrawal.

Sam exhaled through his nose, jaw tight.

He pressed one gentle kiss to her temple, barely a brush of lips then carefully disentangled himself.

Naked, skin still flushed from the night, he rose.

The morning air felt cool against his sweat-damp body, his heavy cock swaying half-hard between his thighs, glistening with their combined mess. He didn't bother covering himself as he padded quietly across the cracked concrete floor toward the small, makeshift bathroom at the back, a curtained-off corner with a cracked basin, a bucket of rainwater, and a sliver of soap he'd scavenged days earlier.

Elena cracked her eyes the moment his back was turned.

She watched the broad lines of his shoulders, the flex of muscle in his ass and thighs with each step, the faint scars that mapped his history across his skin.

Her hand drifted down, slow, secret—until her palm rested flat against the soft swell just below her navel.

She could still feel it: the deep, liquid warmth pooled inside her womb, impossibly heavy, impossibly full.

The sheer potency of his release of thick, endless, magically-charged, had flooded every corner of her. She knew instinctively, certainly that it had taken root.

No question.

She was already carrying his child.

A tiny, private smile curved her lips, soft and bittersweet and fierce all at once.

She pressed her fingers a little harder against her abdomen, as though she could already feel the tiny spark taking hold.

Sam finished quickly, cold water sluicing over his shoulders, down his chest, washing away the evidence of the night but not the memory of it. He dressed in silence: worn pants, heavy boots, the battered leather coat that had seen him through a dozen worse nights than this.

When he stepped back into the main room, Elena was sitting up, blanket pulled modestly around her shoulders, hair mussed, cheeks still flushed from sleep and everything else.

The children still slept, curled together like puppies.

Sam met her eyes across the dim space.

Neither of them spoke for a long beat.

Then he crossed to her in three quiet strides, crouched beside the nest of blankets, and cupped her cheek with one rough palm.

"Gotta go," he murmured, thumb brushing the corner of her mouth. "There's trouble brewing out past the ridge. Won't be gone long."

Elena leaned into his touch, eyes shining.

"Be careful," she whispered. "Come back to us."

He nodded once, sharp, certain.

Then he leaned in and kissed her, slow, deep, tasting of promise and possession.

When he pulled back, his gaze dropped briefly to where her hand still rested protectively over her lower belly.

He didn't ask.

He didn't need to.

Something unspoken passed between them, warm, heavy, real.

Sam stood.

He slung his pack over one shoulder, checked the blade at his hip, then turned toward the broken doorway.

Elena watched him go.

The morning light framed his silhouette for a moment, tall, broad, unbreakable, before he stepped out into the ruined street and vanished around the corner.

She stayed there, hand still pressed to her abdomen, feeling the faint, secret pulse of new life already stirring inside her.

For a moment the store felt oddly quiet without him.

She let out a soft breath and finally tried to stand.

The moment she pushed herself upright,

Her knees wobbled.

Elena grabbed the nearby counter quickly to steady herself.

"Oh my…"

She laughed softly under her breath, slightly embarrassed.

Her legs felt weak, the result of a very long night and very little sleep.

She stood there for a second, gathering her balance.

"…That boy," she muttered quietly with a small smile.

After a moment she managed to stand properly and began moving around the store.

Soon the sound of rummaging through supplies filled the quiet building as she prepared breakfast using some of the canned food and dried meat Sam had gathered during his travels.

The smell slowly filled the room.

That was enough to wake the kids.

Daniel sat up first, rubbing his eyes.

"Morning…"

Lily followed soon after, stretching under the blankets.

They both looked around the room.

Daniel blinked.

"…Where's Sam?"

Elena glanced over her shoulder while stirring the small pan over the fire she had restarted.

"He went out to hunt some mutants."

Daniel's eyes widened immediately.

"Already?!"

Elena nodded.

"He said he'd be back later today."

Lily climbed off the pillows and walked over to the small cooking area.

"He fights monsters every day?"

Elena smiled softly.

"It seems like it."

Daniel crossed his arms proudly.

"Sam's awesome."

Elena couldn't help smiling at that.

"Yes," she said quietly.

"He really is."

Outside the ruined store, the morning wind drifted through the valley as the strange magical world continued to grow and change.

And somewhere beyond the hills…

Sam was already hunting.
