Chapter 5 - Meeting A Vampire (Chapter 5)

Christian woke up from his deep sleep and did his usual morning stretches.

He walked outside and almost stumbled over a dead boar in front of him. He noticed Flaro and Darya standing next to the dead boar as they looked at Christian happily. They must've gone hunting during the night and gave this to me as a gift. Christian picked up the boar and brought it to the campfire. He then cooked it and cooked some vegetables from the crops with it.

The wolves ate eagerly as Christian did as well.

Tasting meat for the first time in this world felt so good to him. After they finished eating, Christian cleaned up everything and got back to work harvesting the crops and thinking of what he wanted to build next. After harvesting the last of his crops for the day, the thought came to him.

Even though they had plenty of water from the moat and the stream, as well as from the water magic Darya provided, he wanted something that could make life easier on all of them. He wanted to make a well.

It didn't take long for Christian to summon the divine tool and start digging a well. Even the wolves helped with it. Not before long, the well was created and filled with lots of freshwater. The well was created right next to the cabin so Christian could have easy access to it.

It was also close enough to the campfire in case it got out of control as well.

Christian stood back and admired all their hard work. The open empty area that used to exist on day one now had a larger wooden cabin in the center, a wolf house in the corner, a well next to the cabin, a wooden fence around the perimeter, a moat around the perimeter, and at least five different vegetable crops with some extra tools made out of wood.

Things were starting to take shape a bit. Christian even made some frisbees out of wood for him to play catch with the wolves. He still was wary of what was further outside the area. He wasn't so dumb as to not be careful of danger even with his blessings and wolves, but he would enjoy the peaceful time he could be given.

Flaro took some of the older pups to go hunting with him outside the campsite. Christian assumed Flaro knew what he was doing, so he let them be. Darya and the younger pups decided to stay at the campsite and rest. It was quite peaceful now in this little home they built for themselves.

It was turning early evening by the time Christian heard Flaro's howling in the distance.

Christian told Darya and the younger pups to stay put. He quickly grabbed his divine tool and ran toward the sound of his howling. It sounded like he and the older pups found something important. Christian nodded to himself when he confirmed the sight of what he just discovered.

A young girl with white hair and red eyes looked side to side rapidly as Flaro and the pups had her surrounded. Christian had never seen Flaro like this or the other pups. They were radiating intense power and Christian could physically feel the heat.

"Please save me!" the girl cried out.

"Hey! Flaro! Conan! Ash! Please back off from her!" Christian shouted as he ran over to the girl.

The girl's dress was burnt. He could tell it was fancy as well. The girl had slight bruises on her arms and legs. As Christian leaned forward to help her up, the girl suddenly lunged at him and bit his neck. Flaro and the other pups were about to jump the girl again when Christian raised his hand.

After a few moments, the young girl stepped back and held her head down. The girl transformed into a more mature version of herself, and the redness in her eyes became more clear and full of life. She looked up at Christian nervously.

"Thanks for letting me regain my power back. I am sorry I jumped you, but I couldn't resist. Your blood was too tempting. My name is Rhea. I am a vampire. Please forgive me."

This was, of course, a lot for Christian to take in at once. However, his compassion took over more than anything else.

"It is okay, Rhea. My name is Christian. These are my wolves. I am sorry they attacked you. They probably thought you meant harm to me. Why are you out here in this forest, which has many more miles of remote mountains and grasslands?"

"It is difficult to explain. All I can say is that I love to explore and travel from place to place. Where I am from, life can be pretty restricting. So it feels more freeing escaping for some time and living my best life. You know? I sometimes happen to get lost," she replied as they made their way into the campsite.

"I can understand that. Here, it may not be much, but let me show you around here," Christian replied. Christian gave Rhea the complete tour of the campsite he built from the ground up. Rhea was very impressed by this. Christian thought she wouldn't care because she gave off a royal air about herself, but to his surprise she did care about it.

It turned out that Rhea was really into nature.

After some time, Christian had a thought pop into his mind.

"When I met you, the sun was still above the horizon, which means it cast its light on you. Do you not burn from the sun's light?" he asked as they sat around the campfire with the other wolves.

"No haha! I do not. Some vampires do though. It just depends. Every vampire starts off as a Day Walker. Once they reach a certain age, they can choose to undergo the awakening ceremony whenever they want to become a Night Walker. Night Walkers are immensely more powerful usually than Day Walkers, but they trade the ability to be immune to the sun or light. I am still a Day Walker though, by choice."

Christian thought to himself. "By choice?"

"Yeah," she replied back. "The certain age which lets you pick undergoing the awakening ceremony or not is about two hundred years old. I am about four hundred years old now, though my body, as you can see, is about a twenty-year-old woman. We can choose our biological ages for the most part."

Christian nodded in understanding. He looked at the sky. It was getting late.

"Hey Rhea, I am sorry if I kept you here long enough. Do you want to stay here for a few days while you figure out where to go? You don't have to if you do not want to. I get the living conditions. Just offering it since it can get lonely here sometimes," Christian said while eating some of the leftover cooked boar.

"Yeah! I would love to, Christian. I mean, since I do travel a decent amount, I always carry this with me." She said while she summoned a magic pouch. From the pouch she pulled out two sleeping bags, night garments for herself, and a lamp. Christian was amazed how much magic storage that powerful travel pouch had.

"Any chance you have a mattress in there?" He thought it was worth a shot asking.

"Yeah!" she said. "I know it may be weird, but I usually have one if I go camping at all. It's not super high quality, but it does the job." She helped Christian move the mattress onto the bed frame, which luckily fit well. Christian told Rhea she could sleep on the mattress with the sleeping bag and he would sleep on the bench with the second sleeping bag.

Rhea tried to say he wouldn't have to do that, but after a lot of back and forth, she gave up.

She fell asleep faster than Christian expected. The soft glow of the lamp next to her illuminated her beautiful sleeping face. The softness of her snoring brought peace to Christian. It had been so long since he had anybody close enough to a human to speak to like this. He didn't want to admit it, but he did miss some social interaction.

He closed his eyes.

He was very happy he ran into Rhea.
