Chapter 28: The Legend of the Night
Shoto Todoroki had started to notice something about Akio Tatsuma.
At times, Akio could be surprisingly rude.
With his looks and ability, he could easily get by just acting cool and saying less.
Not that Todoroki cared enough to point it out.
He was not someone who enjoyed talking in the first place—especially not with people he did not know well.
Outside the school, the reporters were still making noise.
"Just let All Might come out and say a few words!" one female reporter insisted. "He has to be inside!"
"I already told you, he isn't working today," Present Mic said, sounding fed up.
The reporter pressed on immediately.
"If he just comes out and makes a statement, we'll leave."
Aizawa lifted a hand to stop Present Mic from replying.
"You people always want more," he said flatly. "Once you get one answer, you start asking for another."
Present Mic leaned toward him and lowered his voice.
"This is basically illegal entry. That makes them no different from villains. Can I blast them out?"
"Don't," Aizawa replied, his eyes half-lidded. "If you do, they'll report you for it. Let the police handle it."
So the two of them stayed at the gate, dealing with the reporters without actually laying a hand on them.
Once Tenya Iida calmed the panicking students and the police arrived, the crowd was finally pushed back and dispersed.
At the school entrance, after the area had been cleared, the principal stood with his hands behind his back, looking at the damaged security barrier.
"Ordinary reporters wouldn't go this far," he said. "Someone pushed them. Or someone dangerous slipped in among them."
He paused.
"This may be a declaration of war."
Midnight and the others said nothing, but they clearly felt the same way.
Akio knew exactly what it meant.
A storm was coming.
The League of Villains was getting ready to move.
For that reason, after school, he decided to earn some extra Save Points while he still had time.
Wearing a black cloak, he moved between the rooftops and watched the darker corners of the city—the alleys, blind spots, and places where cameras rarely saw anything clearly.
It did not take long.
"If you know what's good for you, hand over the money," a red-haired young man snarled in a narrow alley, pressing a knife to the neck of a man wearing glasses. "Or you already know how this ends."
"What you're doing is wrong," the man in glasses said shakily. "If you abuse your Quirk against ordinary people, the heroes will come after you."
"Heroes?" the thug repeated, then laughed. "Don't be stupid. By the time they show up, I'll be gone."
"I caught you first."
The voice came from above.
A dark figure dropped from the rooftop and landed in front of them.
"Who the hell are you?" the red-haired youth asked, instantly on guard.
The figure in the black cloak stood motionless.
"Who am I?" Akio repeated, acting as if he were seriously considering it.
Then he said, "I'm the legend of the night. I exist to clean up people like you."
The red-haired man stared at him for half a second.
"Are you insane?!"
He kicked the man with glasses aside and charged straight at Akio.
His Quirk allowed him to multiply the force in his body and concentrate it into a single strike. One punch from him could carry the power of several grown men combined.
But Akio did not move.
The next second, the red-haired man flew backward and crashed to the ground several meters away, blood spraying from his mouth.
Akio walked over to him.
"Do you understand now?" he asked.
The man stared up at him in horror.
"You… what did you do?"
He had not even seen Akio move.
It felt as if he had run into a speeding vehicle.
Akio slapped him across the face.
A tooth flew out.
"I asked whether you understand."
The red-haired man broke down completely.
"I do! I do! Please stop!"
A system notification appeared.

Akio turned to the man with glasses.
"Call the police. Hand him over."
Then he bent his knees and shot upward, disappearing into the night like a black phantom.
The man with glasses stared after him in awe.
"…That was incredible."
The same kind of thing happened again and again that night.
By the time Akio was finished, he had earned a full 700 Save Points.
At the same time, stories began spreading among ordinary people.
A mysterious figure wrapped in black.
Appearing only at night.
Stopping muggers, punks, and Quirk abusers before vanishing without a trace.
People started calling him:
The Legend of the Night.
Among civilians, the name spread fast.
Among Pro Heroes, though, the reaction was colder.
No matter how many people the so-called Legend of the Night helped, he was still acting without a hero license. That meant he remained an unidentified vigilante, someone who would still need to be detained and investigated if caught.
After returning home, Akio took a hot shower as usual, then ordered takeout before starting the lottery.
The first draw made his eyes brighten.

That one was useful.
The second draw made him wince.

Akio stared at the result in disbelief.
Heart chocolate?
Was this system secretly running a convenience store?
Daily supplies, snacks, random clothes, now chocolate—what exactly was wrong with this thing?
After a moment, he decided he would give the chocolate to Sakura Inoue, who had been taking such good care of him.
Then he took the enhancement pill and sat down to train.
Even without special items, he trained every day. The results were slow, but consistency mattered more than anything. If he kept at it, progress would come.
The pill's effect spread through his body like a wave of heat, flowing into his limbs and deepening the strength already built there.
By dawn the next morning, Akio opened his eyes.
His conditioning had advanced to the second stage.
Without wasting time, he went to the system shop, bought another Quirk Enhancement Pill, and used it to raise his lightning ability to Level 3.
