The sounds of the hunt grew louder as dawn began to break over the forest. The Alpha stood at the entrance of the cave, his eyes scanning the thick fog for any sign of his former brothers.
"They are close," he whispered, turning to the Omega. "But we won't stay to be their prey. There is an ancient trail behind the waterfall that leads to the neutral lands. If we reach it, they cannot legally follow us."
The Omega stood up, her strength returning despite the exhaustion. "And if they don't care about the laws anymore?"
"Then we fight," the Alpha said firmly.
They stepped into the icy spray of the waterfall, finding a narrow, slippery path hidden by the rocks. As they moved deeper into the mountain, the Omega noticed something glowing on the stone walls—ancient symbols that vibrated with a strange energy.
She reached out to touch one, and suddenly, a vision flashed before her eyes. She saw a legendary white wolf and a prophecy that mentioned a 'Broken Soul' who would lead the packs into a new era.
"Alpha, look!" she gasped.
He stopped, his eyes widening as he recognized the markings. "These are the signs of the First Pack. Why are they reacting to you?"
The realization hit them both at once. Her 'broken' status wasn't a curse; it was a mark of something far more powerful than any Council could understand. But their moment of discovery was cut short by the sound of heavy footsteps echoing in the tunnel behind them.
