Chapter 17 - The Name On Her Mind

That night, Mira lay in bed staring at the ceiling.

Her room was quiet except for the soft music playing from her phone.

The same rap songs.

The same thoughtful lyrics.

Usually music helped calm her mind after a long day.

But tonight it was doing the opposite.

Her thoughts were louder than ever.

Because the question in her head refused to leave.

You already know my name.

She turned to her side and buried her face in the pillow.

"Okay," she muttered.

"This is stupid."

But the curiosity was stronger than her logic.

Mira closed her eyes slowly.

Part of her hoped the dream would return.

Another part of her felt nervous.

Because this time she had a question waiting.

A very strange question.

When she opened her eyes again…

The rooftop was there.

The same cool wind.

The same glowing city lights.

Mira immediately sat up.

"Well," she said quietly.

"Here we go again."

But this time something felt different.

He wasn't standing near the railing.

The rooftop was empty.

Mira looked around.

"Hello?" she called playfully.

"Dream guy?"

No response.

She frowned slightly.

"Did my brain cancel the dream character subscription?"

Just as she turned toward the stairs—

A voice spoke from behind her.

"You talk too much when you're alone."

Mira spun around quickly.

There he was.

Standing a few steps away, watching her with a faint smile.

She placed a hand over her chest dramatically.

"Seriously? You scared me."

"I doubt that."

"You appeared like a ghost."

"This is your dream."

"Still rude."

They walked toward the railing together again.

The wind moved softly through the quiet night.

For a moment Mira stayed silent.

She was thinking carefully.

Ask him.

Her mind repeated the words.

Just ask him.

But saying it felt strange.

Almost embarrassing.

Finally she took a deep breath.

"Can I ask you something?"

He looked at her calmly.

"You always do."

"This one is different."

"That sounds serious."

"It is."

He leaned against the railing and nodded.

"Go ahead."

Mira hesitated.

Then she spoke slowly.

"You told me something last time."

"What?"

"That I already know your name."

He didn't react immediately.

He simply watched her carefully.

"Yes," he said.

"I remember."

Mira crossed her arms.

"Well… I've been thinking about that."

"And?"

"And I realized something."

He waited patiently.

Her heart started beating slightly faster.

"Your personality… your way of talking… even your music taste…"

He raised an eyebrow.

"Music taste?"

"You know exactly what I mean."

He didn't deny it.

Mira looked straight at him now.

Her voice became quieter.

"There's someone I listen to a lot."

"Someone famous?"

"Yes."

"A rapper?"

She nodded slowly.

Silence filled the rooftop.

Then Mira finally said the name that had been in her mind.

"…ECHO?"

The moment the name left her lips, the wind felt colder somehow.

For the first time since she had met him in these dreams—

He didn't smile.

He simply looked at her.

Quietly.

Thoughtfully.

Mira suddenly felt nervous.

"Oh my god," she said quickly.

"Please don't tell me I just accused my own dream of being a celebrity."

He finally spoke.

"You didn't accuse me."

His voice was calm again.

"You asked a question."

"Yes… but it sounded crazy."

"Does it?"

"Yes!"

"Why?"

"Because you're obviously not him."

"Obviously?"

"Yes."

She pointed around them.

"This is a dream rooftop conversation."

"True."

"So clearly my brain just created a random character."

He looked at her quietly for a moment.

Then he asked something unexpected.

"If I said yes… what would you do?"

Mira blinked.

"What?"

"If I said I was him."

Her brain immediately rejected the idea.

"That would be impossible."

"Why?"

"Because dreams don't work like that."

He tilted his head slightly.

"Are you sure?"

Mira stared at him for a long moment.

Something about his expression felt strangely mysterious.

Her heart started beating faster again.

"Wait," she said slowly.

"You're messing with me."

"Am I?"

"Yes."

"Why would I do that?"

"Because apparently you enjoy confusing me."

He smiled faintly again.

"Maybe a little."

Mira groaned.

"You're impossible."

"And yet you keep coming back."

She sighed.

"Unfortunately."

The rooftop lights flickered again.

Mira looked up immediately.

"Oh come on!"

The dream was already starting to fade.

She quickly looked at him again.

"Next time," she said firmly.

"What?"

"You're giving me a real answer."

"About what?"

"Your name."

He didn't reply.

He only smiled quietly as the city lights slowly blurred.

And then—

The dream disappeared.

Mira woke up suddenly.

Her room was silent.

Her heart was beating faster than usual.

She sat up and ran a hand through her hair.

"Okay," she whispered.

"That was definitely weird."

But the strangest part wasn't the dream.

It was his reaction.

Because when she had said the name ECHO…

For the first time…

He had looked completely serious.

And Mira couldn't stop wondering why.
