Chapter 14 - Chapter 14

'Looks like I'll need to find some help.'

After rubbing his brow, Killian could not help thinking that to himself.

And in truth, that was exactly the case.

As Baymax went on sale, the technologies he would unlock in the future would increase exponentially. There was no way he could personally handle every single one of them, which meant he absolutely needed enough top-tier scientists to assist him.

For a moment, Killian began thinking through which famous figures in the Marvel Universe could potentially be used by him.

And they had to be in the field of biology.

On top of that, since T-Virus experiments were guaranteed to be bloody, they also had to have strong mental tolerance and be the kind of person without moral squeamishness.

But once all those conditions were added, Killian's pool of options shrank dramatically.

After thinking for a long time, one figure suddenly appeared in Killian's mind in the next instant.

Samuel Sterns.

The creator of Abomination.

At once a genius and a madman, a truly crazy scientist.

And throughout his life, he had devoted himself to discovering something groundbreaking.

It was just a pity that he had never encountered the proper opportunity.

And that was exactly why, in the original story, when Hulk found him, he had helped Banner unconditionally and at all costs.

Because he wanted to use Hulk's blood to make a name for himself in one stroke.

It was only later, after being knocked over by Abomination and suffering a head wound, that diluted Hulk serum dripped into it, turning him into the superhuman big-headed monster before S.H.I.E.L.D. locked him away.

This man was not evil by nature.

His moral bottom line was not high, he had no obsession with ethics, he only wanted fame, and most importantly, he was a genius.

All of that added together made him, in Killian's eyes, the perfect tool.

So after making up his mind, Killian took the portable case containing the Stairway of the Sun flower and drove toward the company.

...

After arriving at the company, Killian first carefully sealed the Stairway of the Sun in the innermost laboratory of the underground level.

Once he had locked the room completely, Killian immediately summoned all of the researchers currently working in the lab.

And as that order was passed down,

the researchers who had originally been studying the next upgrade components for Baymax all put down their work.

Then, chatting excitedly with smiles on their faces, they made their way to the meeting room.

After all, they had already watched their boss's glorious debut in Times Square from beginning to end yesterday, so every one of them believed today was definitely going to be about bonuses.

With that mood in the air, it did not take long before the underground meeting room was filled with more than twenty researchers.

And as Killian looked at the people before him, this was his entire foundation up to now.

Though their numbers were small, he believed that sooner or later, the company would expand to the point of establishing branches by region.

"Alright. The reason I called everyone here today is mainly for two matters."

"First, I believe all of you already know that Baymax's launch yesterday was a complete success. On the very first day alone, we sold more than ten units, with sales revenue exceeding ten million dollars."

"And of course, none of that would have been possible without everyone's hard work."

"So I've decided that, to reward all of you, yesterday's sales revenue, without deducting costs, will all be used as project bonuses for everyone here."

"And starting today, every year from here on out, I will also take one percent of the annual profit and use it as additional bonuses for everyone present."

The moment everyone in the room heard Killian's words of encouragement, every face flushed red as they clapped with all their strength.

After all, yesterday alone had brought in more than ten million dollars in sales, and all of it was going to be their bonus.

And how many of them were there?

Not even thirty.

That meant each person would average around three hundred thousand dollars.

And even more terrifying was the fact that their boss had promised that after this, one percent of annual profits would continue to be distributed to them.

One had to remember that if Baymax's actual manufacturing costs were calculated out, they might not even amount to one-tenth of the sale price.

Even if they only went by yesterday's numbers, one day's profit was effectively ten million dollars.

Then a year...

Ten million times 365 days.

God.

They could hardly believe it.

Just from the Baymax project alone, they could end up receiving an annual bonus of over one million dollars.

At that moment, forget the fact that some companies had already been secretly contacting them, even if no one had tried to poach them, they would not have had the slightest thought of leaving.

With that move from Killian, the entire research division reached an unprecedented level of unity.

For a time, the whole meeting room became completely lively.

"Alright, now I'll announce the second matter."

"I still have another major project in hand. However, this is currently the highest-level classified project in the company. It will require signing a lifelong confidentiality agreement."

"And after this meeting ends, each of you may decide for yourselves whether or not to participate."

"What I want to say here is that this project is several times, perhaps dozens or even hundreds of times bigger than the Baymax project."

"I will be investing huge amounts of money into it. And if the project succeeds, then all of you will gain inexhaustible wealth."

"But... this is a highly classified project. Once you choose to participate, then for at least ten years, you may not have any contact with the outside world, including your family."

"The only communication you will be allowed will be through company letters."

"Of course, your salary will still be deposited into your own accounts. And on top of that, if you choose to join this project, each person will receive a one-million-dollar settlement fee. Whether you want to give it to your family or keep it for yourself is up to you."

"Of course, even if you don't sign, that's fine too. The company will still make full use of you. After all, Baymax's project still needs people to manage it, and I won't possibly need that many people for the new one."

After finishing his speech, Killian calmly looked at every person in the room.

And just as he had expected, almost every single one of them was staring at him with red eyes.

In fact, if this had been a different setting, he might have suspected they would tackle him on the spot.

And so, under Killian's nuclear-level money offensive, nearly everyone in the room signed up immediately.

As for Killian, he only needed to do one round of selection, and then the research and development of the T-Virus could formally begin.

But before that, he still needed to solve the laboratory issue first.

The early stage of T-Virus development might be possible here.

But once it advanced into the stage of live biological experiments, there was absolutely no way it could continue in this place.

He had to have a laboratory of his own.

And so, carrying the list of names with him, Killian returned to his office.
