Chapter 22 — Seeds of Suspicion

Von-Ra rarely allowed himself moments of stillness.

But tonight he did.

The halls of House of El were calm, illuminated by the soft glow of Kryptonian crystal lights. Research consoles hummed quietly in the background.

Then a blur of motion rushed toward him.

"Von-Ra!"

A small figure collided happily into his arms.

Kara.

The young girl looked up at him with bright excitement.

"I did it!" she said proudly.

Von-Ra raised an eyebrow.

"Did what?"

Kara eagerly activated a small projection device she had been holding.

A miniature energy reactor appeared in holographic form.

"I stabilized the micro-core!" she said triumphantly. "It lasted thirty seconds this time!"

Von-Ra blinked.

Then he laughed softly.

"Thirty seconds?" he said.

Kara crossed her arms proudly.

"That's ten seconds longer than yesterday."

Von-Ra knelt beside her, studying the projection.

The design was crude.

But clever.

"You adjusted the energy flow manually?"

Kara nodded eagerly.

Von-Ra smiled faintly.

"You're going to surpass everyone in House of El one day."

Kara grinned.

Then she asked the question that always came next.

"Did you solve your problem yet?"

Von-Ra paused.

The weight of Krypton's fate pressed quietly on his shoulders.

"…Not yet."

But looking at her hopeful expression hardened his resolve.

I will.

Beneath Krypton

Later that night, Von-Ra returned to his laboratory.

Data streams filled the air around him.

The projection of Krypton's core pulsed slowly.

But now he studied something else.

Genetic archives.

Every known lifeform of Krypton.

Animals.

Microorganisms.

Biological energy regulators.

Even extinct evolutionary branches.

His reasoning was simple.

If Krypton itself was collapsing, the solution might not be purely mechanical.

It might be biological.

"Adaptation… stabilization… energy absorption…" Von-Ra murmured while analyzing patterns.

He began constructing complex theoretical models.

Could Kryptonian bio-structures stabilize planetary energy?

Could living systems act as regulators?

His mind raced with possibilities.

But he didn't realize something important.

Every action inside the research network left a record.

And someone had begun reviewing those records.

The Hidden Meeting

Far from the research halls, another quiet meeting was underway.

Inside a secured chamber sat representatives of three powerful houses.

House of El.

House of Zod.

And now…

House of Ze.

The leader of the Ze delegation stood before them.

 Ze-Tar.

His family controlled Krypton's planetary resource distribution systems — the networks responsible for energy transport, infrastructure materials, and planetary mining operations.

"If the core truly becomes unstable," Ze-Tar said calmly, "resource control will determine survival."

General Dru-Zod stood with arms crossed.

"And military order will determine whether Krypton descends into chaos."

Jor-El activated a projection of the planetary core.

"Science will determine whether Krypton survives at all."

The three pillars of Krypton's power stood in the same room.

Science.

Military.

Resources.

But something was missing.

Politics.

Which meant one house would eventually oppose them.

House of Val.

Ze-Tar studied the projection.

"Your estimates?"

Zor-El answered quietly.

"Decades… perhaps less."

Ze-Tar exhaled slowly.

"That little time…"

Dru-Zod spoke.

"Then we act quietly."

Jor-El nodded.

"Our research continues."

Ze-Tar added,

"And House of Ze will ensure the necessary materials reach you… without council interference."

A fragile alliance had formed.

Meanwhile, inside the council's administrative archives, a quiet investigation had begun.

A technician reviewed unusual research activity.

"Councilor… you may want to see this."

A tall figure approached the console.

Councilor Val-Tor.

A representative of House of Val, the political strategists of Krypton.

"What is it?"

The technician displayed the report.

"Unusual data access patterns."

Val-Tor frowned.

"From whom?"

The technician zoomed in.

Research access logs: Von-Ra El

Val-Tor's eyes narrowed.

"What exactly has he been studying?"

The technician scrolled through the files.

"Planetary biology…"

"Genetic archives…"

"Evolutionary data…"

"Every known Kryptonian lifeform."

Val-Tor leaned forward slightly.

"…Curious."

The technician hesitated.

"There's more."

Another screen appeared.

"Energy stabilization models."

Val-Tor slowly straightened.

The young heir of House El was researching genetics, biology, and planetary stability simultaneously.

That was not normal research.

Not even for the brilliant Von-Ra.

Val-Tor folded his hands behind his back.

"Continue monitoring him."

"Yes councilor."

Val-Tor turned away.

The political instincts of House Val rarely failed them.

And something about this young scientist felt… dangerous.

Back in his laboratory, Von-Ra stared at his newest simulation.

A theoretical stabilization structure had just appeared within the planetary core model.

It was crude.

Incomplete.

But for the first time…

The simulation delayed Krypton's destruction.

Von-Ra leaned back slowly.

"…So it's possible."
