Last night I had expected things to be easy. The Wolf King– Xavier, wasn't going to adjust to having three children, was he?
Only for him to react that way, like I had just insulted his capabilities.
And now this.
I paused, spooning a morsel of scrambled eggs and tasty grilled sausages into my mouth, chewing as my three children regarded me. They were the light of my life and now they had questions. How was I going to answer them?
"Do you want him to be?" I asked, soft as I could keep my voice. It was difficult, confronting the truth of my past this way.
"He rescued us Mummy," Cleo said, though her tone was a tad confused. Meanwhile Charles nodded emphatically.
"Yeah, Mummy. He's so cool. He helped us."
Caleb regarded me, his eyes carried more weight than the others.
"I noticed he looks like me," His voice was much quieter than the others, in a way that sent pangs through my heart. "Is he really our father?"
