Chapter 14 - Chapter 14: Peak Terror

The hideout was a vault built underground. It was in the middle of the city so that every citizen had easy access to it.

However, there seemed to be something wrong. Because the door to the vault was wide open. Along with it was the blood stain of a hand on the door.

"Shit…" The leader of the group curses. "The Terrors might already breach the hideout."

"I'll check it." Carter walked ahead and entered the vault.

The others followed suit.

"Wait! Why are you guys following him?! There might be a lot of Terrors down there!" A man said.

"Better be with him than up here. You can stay if you want."

The others entered the vault.

"Damn it! They have a point." The last man also followed them.

Blood covered the entire stairs. Corpses lying everywhere and limbs scattered like blocks of legos.

The men covered their mouths in disgust.

"What the hell happened here?"

"Everyone died…"

"Isn't that Timmy?! I just met him earlier."

Carter unsheathed his sword, "Stay close to me."

The men nodded like chicken.

They went deeper into the vault. The entrance opened up to a long dark hallway. Most of the lights were snuffed out. Still, they could see the dark figures of Terrors lurking in the shadows.

Carter bolted forward and decapitated a Terror immediately. He spun around and kicked another Terror flying.

Another Terror attacked him from behind, but Carter could see it clearly with his 360 degree vision. The Terror Wolf also had an incredible night vision, allowing Carter to see in darkness.

He plunged the sword behind him without even turning around. The sword pierced through the chest of the Terror.

Carter pulled the sword out and spun around, decapitating the Terror in one swing.

"Holy shit! That guy is good!"

"I won't expect less from a legendary warrior."

"Where are all of them now? Why didn't we see them more?"

Carter continued to slaughter the horde of Terrors. He was a Elite Rank being, one entire Rank higher than any of the Terrors here. They posed no threat to him at all.

They were simply Synchronization for his skin.

Carter cut them down like grass. Slowly, he was closer to max Synchronization.

The men's group followed him right behind. They did nothing except witnessing his strength.

They slowly moved through the hallway. Terrors fall down like weeds.

One was cut in two but wasn't dead. Carter stomped on its head and killed it while stepping forward.

Another three jumped at him but met his blade. Their bodies fell to the ground in pieces.

Then they entered the last room. The main hall where all the humans were supposed to be.

The ground was soaked by blood. There was only one Terror there.

This Terror was much more powerful than any Terrors Carter had seen. It was at least a Level 10 Awaken, only one Level away from reaching Elite.

And it was huge. A humanoid creature with a hunched back and the head of a wolf. It was very similar to Terror Wolf with its long snout and uncountable eyes on its head.

The men fell onto their butts when they saw the Terror. Some even pissed themselves.

"That… That…"

"It's a monster!"

"No! Not just any monster! That thing is a Peak Terror!"

Carter glanced back at them, "Go."

They didn't need to be told twice. All of them dashed out of the room.

Carter looked back to the Terror Wolfman.

"Let me see how strong you are."

He hadn't transformed yet. Unbound form made everything too easy. Besides, Carter needed to measure its power. Unbound could only last for 99 seconds. If Carter couldn't kill it quick enough, it would also be the end for him.

Carter took the initiative and rushed at the Wolfman.

The Wolfman was at least three meters tall. It looked like a miniscule building and moved like one.

It dragged its claw toward Carter.

The white swordsman jumped over its arm. He spun in the air and sliced into its red skin. Blood shot out.

Disgusting smelly blood. The blood that felt like toxin. It splashed on the wall and ate into concrete like acid.

Carter scraped the Prisoner over the Bracer, sending a wave of fire toward the Wolfman.

It growled loudly and opened its mouth. A red energy ball appeared.

"Huh?"

The red sphere bolted at him. Carter dashed away in time. It exploded and created a shockwave that sent him flying.

Carter spun in the air to regain his balance and landed on his two feet.

"First time seeing that." Carter smiled.

Most Terrors only had physical attacks. This one was different.

The Wolfman opened its mouth again. Now it shot out a wide array of blood onto the ground, turning several spots into harmful acid.

Carter zigzagged through the acid and approached the Wolfman. He launched himself forward and cut the ankle of the Terror.

The Terror fell on its knees, allowing Carter to slash its large head.

It growled loudly. Its two hands slashed the ground where Carter was.

He jumped back and avoided its attack.

Carter sheathed the Prisoner back to its scabbard. "I measured your power, Terror. And now you're going to die!"

Carter slowly drew the Prisoner again.

"Prisoner… Unbound!"

A dark cloud enveloped Carter.

The Wolfman charged its range attack again. This time the energy sphere was even larger.

Then it released it into the dark cloud. It was not an energy ball like last time, but a destructive beam that dug into the concrete behind Carter and even shot through the hallway.

The men panicked and quickly got away.

"What the hell is that?!"

"Please, God! Please help him! I beg you!"

"Arthur! Where are you going?" The man with the golf club shouted.

"I need to record this…" Arthur was the skinny man with a pair of glasses. He crawled back into the room and pulled out his phone.

He pressed the record button.
