The next day arrived, and Calux and Seraphiel decided to leave early towards the other C rank gate that had appeared four days ago.
While on their journey Calux was unnaturally calm and quiet, as if he was thinking about a mountain of things, but at the same time as if he had made a clear decision about something.
Seraphiel wanted to ask, but she was aware that this was something very personal for him, and in his place she wouldn't be so calm as he is, considering everything involved.
She wasn't a noble, but even in the commoner circles everyone knew that the princess had personally came to the Dukedom to annul the marriage.
They didn't know the details, but now she did, and she was sure that after hearing everything, that she would hate the person who practically stepped on him after sharing years of kindness together.

Arriving at the portal, they were greeted by two different guards than last time, but they both had a similar aura, which meant both of these guards were probably B rank as well.
"Good morning young Lord and Lady!"
Seraphiel blushed, not used to being called so formally, and she knew it was because of who Calux was.
"Good morning, we'll be going in now, we should be back in a few hours."
Calux said calmly.
They started walking towards the rift but suddenly one of the guards spoke.
"Young Lord, we should inform you, considering that you two are going in alone that the rift has been acting weird in the past few hours."
Calux stopped and looked at the man with curiosity in his eyes.
"Weird how? Explain."
"Well, a few hours ago the rift started sending mana bursts outside as if it was going to evolve to a B rank gate in terms of mana capacity but that shouldn't be possible after just a few days of spawning."
Then the other guard continued.
"Yes! It is something very weird, so we would like to caution you, if something seems weird, please leave the rift!"
Calux nodded in appreciation to both of them, they were really good at their jobs, this was something really important, that they could of just left out since nothing had actually changed, but they still cautioned.
"What are your names?"
"Alex!"
"Calvin!"
"Good, I'll inform mother later of your kindness, stay here and wait for us."
They both stepped into the portal, leaving the two guards stupefied behind.
"Calvin! The young Lord is probably happy we let him know!"
"Yes!! I told you kindness is important in this life bastard!"
"Yes, yes! I will live my life in kindness from now on, shut up!"

Stepping into the rift, Seraphiel and Calux were received with an ominous message from the Apex Network.

"Well shit."
Calux let out the most honest response he could when he saw the Apex Network messages appear on the screen.
"Calux... Should we go back?"
Calux put his hand to his chin for a few seconds thinking about the possible risks and rewards that would come with clearing a rift that had upgraded like it did.
It would usually mean that the beast had just evolved, and it was still weakened, therefore it could theoretically be possible for them to achieve this.
"I suspect that since it evolved, it probably had to have eaten its own kind to evolve, if not it wouldn't have happened so suddenly like it did..."
"Let's see how many wyverns we find, and if we find it troublesome, I'll summon Nyra and we'll get out of here."
Seraphiel thought about it and completely agreed with him, this would be good for them if they could manage, and if not then they could leave with Nyraxis's help.
"Alright, I'll follow your lead, it would seem I'll be depending on you again."
Seraphiel had a dejected look on her face and looked to the ground, clearly she wanted to help more and she knew that in this particular case it would be even harder than the previous rift.
Suddenly she felt her hair being patted, she looked up from the ground to see Calux's handsome face smiling at her.
"Don't worry, after this we will go to some D rank rifts where you'll shine like you should okay?"
His words felt as if he had sent an arrow to her heart making it tighten.
Does this man not notice that he is to sweet? To good? Too handsome!?
AGHH!
"Mhm!"
That's all she managed to say before they started walking towards the mountain in front of them.
It was eerily quiet, as if nothing was around.
Suddenly, a wyvern of eight feet long was seen going towards them and landed a few feet away.
SCREEECH!
A horrible sound came out of the wyvern's mouth directed towards them.

Although not huge, it was still a big beast, imposing with red scales.
Eyes red with malice, and like all corrupted monsters, a horrible miasma coming from its claws and mouth when it opened it.
"Alright Sera, it's only one beast, we can handle it, although the scales of a wyvern are tough, my weapon can still pierce through, let's do this!"
Seraphiel got into position and summoned a shield bearer to protect her from a possible wyvern's breath and a spearman to help Calux in the front line.
Calux, was quick, void stepping in front of the wyvern ready to strike.
He wanted to end this as quickly as possible, not allowing it to call any reinforcements, they couldn't be complacent on a rift that mutated out of a sudden.
Striking vertically, Calux went to incapacitate one of its wings, and slashed down with all his force.
Thanks the void steps, the wyvern although strong was not able to see through Calux's movement, focusing on Seraphiel's constructs which were in front of it, when suddenly it felt the pain in its right wing.
SCREECH!!
It roared in pain at loosing mobility on of its wings and looked at Calux with evident hate in its eyes.
In that split second it looked at Calux, the spearman construct pierced its neck with force, barely penetrating, but being able to penetrate a wyvern's scale with a D rank weapon was still an accomplishment.
The beast roared in pain, being hurt in two sides in barely a few seconds, then it heard a voice that made it shudder in horror.
It felt as if death was coming to claim it if it didn't leave.
"Void Slash."
Calux had void stepped on top of the wyvern's back and void slashed in a split second towards its neck.
THUD.
The almost three feet long neck fell to the ground separating from its body, and blood gushed out a few seconds later.
"Few... That was easier than expected thanks to it only being one!"
Seraphiel shouted in excitement.
"Yes... It's weird, there should be at least two or more since wyverns never hunt alone... But it all but sums up my theory..."
"Let's continue Sera!"
He called me Sera again! Does he not notice?!
Not like I'm complaining...
