A video.
That was the reason.
That was the trigger.
Everything that happened that night—
Started with that.
I stared at Ryan.
"You're telling me… all of this…"
My voice felt tight.
"…started because of a video?"
"It wasn't just a video," he said.
"Then what was it?"
Silence.
Emily wiped her tears.
"It had everything," she whispered.
"All of us… things no one was supposed to see."
My chest tightened.
"What kind of things?"
No one answered.
That was the answer.
"So he was blackmailing you."
"No," Noah said quickly.
"He said he wasn't going to use it."
I frowned.
"Then why tell you?"
Ryan stepped in.
"Because he wanted control."
A pause.
"He wanted us scared."
"That doesn't make sense," I said.
"If he wasn't going to use it—"
"He was," Sarah said quietly.
We all turned.
"He just hadn't yet."
Silence.
Because that felt real.
"And you believed that?" I asked.
"No," Ryan said.
A beat.
"I made sure it wouldn't happen."
Something in his voice—
Was off.
"What did you do?"
He didn't answer.
"He grabbed his phone," Emily said suddenly.
I looked at her.
"That night," she continued.
"Right before everything got worse…"
Fragments hit me again.
Rain.
Shouting.
"Give it to me!" my voice echoed in my head.
My head started pounding.
"I remember that…"
"You tried to take it from him," Noah said.
"I wasn't trying to hurt him—"
"You were out of control," Sarah said.
Silence.
Because now…
I was starting to believe that.
"What happened to the video?" I asked.
No answer.
Again.
"Don't do that," I said.
"Not now."
Emily looked at Ryan.
Ryan looked at Noah.
Noah looked down.
And Sarah—
Looked at me.
"It disappeared."
My stomach dropped.
"What?"
"After that night," she said.
"No one ever found it."
"That's impossible."
"If he had it—"
"He had it," Ryan said.
"Then where is it?"
Silence.
And then—
It hit me.
Cold.
Sharp.
"You took it."
All eyes moved to Ryan.
He didn't deny it.
"I had to."
"What did you do with it?"
Silence.
"I got rid of it."
No.
That didn't feel right.
"You're lying."
His eyes locked on mine.
"I destroyed it."
But I saw it.
The hesitation.
The control.
The lie.
"You're still hiding something."
"Let it go, Lucas."
"No."
Tension snapped.
"YOU don't get to say that!" I shouted.
"Not after everything!"
"Then what do you want?" he shot back.
"You want to fix this? Go back? Pretend it didn't happen?"
"I want the truth!"
"You can't handle it!"
"TRY ME!"
Silence.
Heavy.
Dangerous.
Then—
"Fine."
Ryan stepped closer.
Slow.
"You want the truth?"
"Yes."
He leaned in slightly.
"I didn't destroy it."
Everything stopped.
"What?"
Emily looked up.
Noah froze.
Even Sarah—
Was caught off guard.
"I kept it," Ryan said.
My heart dropped.
"Why?"
"Insurance."
Of course.
Of course he did.
"You deleted it?" Noah asked.
Ryan shook his head.
"No."
Silence.
Because now—
We all understood.
"It still exists."
"Yes."
My chest tightened.
"Where is it?"
Ryan smiled.
Cold.
"You really think I'd tell you?"
I stepped forward—
But then—
A sound.
A phone.
Not mine.
Ryan's.
We all froze.
He slowly pulled it out.
Looked at the screen.
And for the first time—
Ryan Blake lost control.
Just for a second.
"What is it?" Emily asked.
He didn't answer.
"Ryan."
Slowly—
He turned the phone.
And everything changed.
A video.
Playing.
Dark.
Shaky.
Rain.
Voices.
Our voices.
That night.
My heart stopped.
"No…"
The camera shifted.
And we saw it.
Everything.
Me.
Shouting.
Him.
Backing away.
The push.
The fall.
The impact.
Emily gasped.
Noah stepped back.
Sarah went still.
And Ryan—
Watched me.
"You wanted the truth."
But it wasn't over.
The video kept playing.
Past the fall.
Past the silence.
Past the moment we all believed was the end.
And then—
Movement.
My breath caught.
The body—
Moved.
A hand.
Twitching.
Alive.
A breath.
Barely visible.
But real.
And then—
The screen cut.
Black.
Silence.
Absolute.
"No…" Emily whispered.
My hands were shaking.
"He was alive…"
No one spoke.
Because now—
There was no doubt.
We didn't just leave someone behind.
We left someone alive.
And he remembered.
🖤 Poem — Lucas
I saw the truth
in a frame I couldn't deny
a moment frozen
between living and goodbye
and the worst part of all…
is I chose to walk away
