Chapter 16 - The Game Has Already Started

The moment I stepped back onto that road…

I knew something was wrong.

Not the place.

Not the night.

Me.

Something inside me felt… watched.

Not like before.

Closer.

More personal.

I walked slowly, my eyes scanning the trees around me.

Nothing.

No movement.

No sound.

But that didn't mean anything anymore.

"Alright," I said under my breath.

"I'm here."

Silence.

No answer.

Of course not.

This wasn't about answers.

This was about control.

And right now…

I didn't have it.

My phone vibrated.

I froze.

Slowly…

I pulled it out.

Another message.

You're late.

My jaw tightened.

"I came," I muttered.

Another message.

Not where I told you.

A chill ran down my spine.

"What do you mean?"

No reply.

Then—

A sound.

Behind me.

Fast.

I turned instantly—

Nothing.

Just darkness.

But this time…

I knew.

He was close.

Another vibration.

I looked down.

A photo.

My heart stopped.

It was me.

Standing there.

Taken seconds ago.

From behind.

Too close.

Way too close.

"Stop hiding!" I shouted.

"What do you want from me?!"

Silence.

Then—

A voice.

Not from the phone.

From the trees.

"Turn around."

I froze.

Slowly…

I did.

Nothing.

"No," the voice said again.

"Not like that."

My chest tightened.

"Close your eyes."

That made everything worse.

"Yeah, not happening."

A pause.

Then—

"You still don't trust me."

I clenched my jaw.

"Should I?"

Silence.

Then—

"Fair."

The wind picked up slightly.

Leaves shifting.

Branches moving.

And then—

Footsteps.

Circling me.

Slow.

Deliberate.

My heart started racing.

"Stop playing games," I said.

"No," he replied calmly.

"You don't get to rush this."

That tone…

It wasn't just angry.

It was controlled.

"You said you wanted the truth," he continued.

"I do."

"Then earn it."

My fists clenched.

"I'm not here to play—"

"Too late," he cut in.

"You already are."

Silence.

Because he was right.

I was exactly where he wanted me.

"Why me?" I asked.

A pause.

Then—

"Because you were the first."

My chest tightened.

"The first what?"

Silence.

"You started it," he said again.

"I know that."

"No," his voice dropped slightly

"you don't."

That again.

Always something more.

"Then tell me!"

Footsteps stopped.

Right behind me.

Close.

Too close.

"You really want to know what happened after you left?"

My breath caught.

"Yes."

A long pause.

And then—

"I woke up."

My heart dropped.

"What?"

"I wasn't dead," he continued.

"I couldn't move… but I could hear everything."

My hands started shaking.

"No…"

"I heard you," he said.

"All of you."

Flash.

Voices.

Panic.

"We need to go—"

"What if someone finds him—"

"He's not breathing—"

My chest tightened.

"You didn't even check," he said.

"I—"

"You just left."

Silence.

Because I couldn't deny it.

"What happened after?" I asked.

That was the question.

The one that mattered.

A pause.

Long.

Heavy.

Then—

"Someone stayed."

Everything stopped.

"What?"

"I heard footsteps fade…" he continued

"except one."

My heart started racing again.

"Who?"

Silence.

And then—

"That's the part you don't deserve yet."

Anger hit instantly.

"Enough of that!"

I turned fast—

But this time—

He was there.

Right in front of me.

Closer than before.

And his eyes…

They weren't just angry.

They were broken.

"You think this is just about you?" he said quietly.

I didn't answer.

"You think you're the one carrying this?"

My chest tightened.

"You're not."

Silence.

"Then who stayed?" I asked again.

He stared at me.

Long.

And then—

He smiled.

But this time…

It wasn't cold.

It was something worse.

It was knowing.

"You'll find out tomorrow."

"What happens tomorrow?"

He stepped back.

Into the darkness again.

"School."

My heart stopped.

"No…"

"They're all going to be there."

A chill ran down my spine.

"All of you," he continued

"in one place…"

Silence.

And then—

"The perfect moment."

"What are you planning?"

He didn't answer.

Instead—

"Be ready, Lucas."

And just like that—

He was gone.

Again.

Vanished.

Like a ghost.

But this time…

He left something behind.

Not a clue.

Not a message.

A threat.

Because now…

Whatever was going to happen next—

It wasn't just about the past anymore.

It was about what he was about to do.

🖤 Poem — Lucas

I walked into darkness

searching for truth

but found something deeper

something uncouth

and the past I uncovered…

is coming for you
