Chapter 21 - Say It Wasn’t You

No one trusted anyone anymore.

Not after that.

Not after everything that had just been said.

Emily sat there, shaking.

Noah looked like he wanted to disappear.

Ryan…

Ryan looked exactly the same.

Calm.

Too calm.

And that…

That made everything worse.

"You knew," I said.

My voice came out low.

Controlled.

But inside…

I was breaking.

Ryan looked at me.

"You're really going to do this?" he asked.

"Answer me."

Silence.

"You knew Emily was going to call him," I continued.

"And you used that."

"That's not what happened."

"Then what happened?!"

The tension snapped.

People around us started backing away.

But none of that mattered.

"Say it," I said.

"Say it wasn't you."

Silence.

Ryan didn't answer.

Didn't deny it.

And that silence…

Was louder than anything.

"No…" Noah whispered.

Emily started crying again.

"I didn't mean for this—"

"Stop," I said softly.

She looked at me.

"I know," I said.

And I did.

She didn't plan it.

She started something…

But she didn't finish it.

"You did," I said, looking back at Ryan.

His expression changed slightly.

Just for a second.

"You turned it into something real."

Silence.

"That's what he meant," I continued.

"That moment… when everything stopped being a setup."

Ryan exhaled slowly.

"You're missing the point."

"No," I said.

"I'm finally seeing it."

The air felt heavier.

Darker.

"You knew he had the video," I continued.

"You knew what he could do to all of us."

Ryan didn't speak.

"You saw an opportunity," I said.

Emily shook her head.

"No… no, Ryan wouldn't—"

"Wouldn't what?" I snapped.

"Protect himself?"

Silence.

Because that was exactly who Ryan was.

"I did what had to be done," he said.

That was it.

That was the confirmation.

"You don't get to decide that!" Noah shouted.

"I already did," Ryan replied coldly.

Emily stood up abruptly.

"How can you say that?!" she cried.

"He was alive!"

Ryan looked at her.

"And what would you have done?" he asked.

She froze.

"Called for help?" he continued.

"Waited for him to wake up and destroy all of us?"

"That doesn't give you the right to kill him!"

Silence.

Ryan didn't answer.

Because there was no answer.

Only truth.

Ugly.

Unavoidable.

And then—

A laugh.

Soft.

Slow.

We all turned.

Him.

Watching us.

Enjoying this.

"You see it now," he said.

I looked at him.

"This is what you wanted."

"Yes."

No hesitation.

No shame.

"You wanted us to turn on each other."

"Yes."

My fists clenched.

"Why?"

His smile faded slightly.

And for the first time…

Something real appeared.

"Because this is what you did to me."

Silence.

"You left me alone," he continued.

"You made your choice."

His eyes moved slowly across all of us.

"Now… you get to live with it."

Emily shook her head.

"This won't fix anything…"

"I'm not trying to fix it," he replied.

That was worse.

"Then what do you want?" Noah asked.

A pause.

Long.

Heavy.

And then—

"The truth."

My chest tightened.

"That's all you've been saying."

"No," he said quietly.

"You still don't understand."

Silence.

"The truth…" he continued

"…isn't just about that night."

Everything stopped.

"What do you mean?" I asked.

He looked at me.

Deep.

Too deep.

"It didn't start that night, Lucas."

A chill ran down my spine.

"No…"

"Yes."

My head started spinning.

"Then when did it start?"

Silence.

And then—

"When you betrayed him."

My heart stopped.

"What?"

Emily looked at me.

Confused.

"What is he talking about?"

I couldn't answer.

Because suddenly…

Something felt wrong.

Something I didn't remember.

Or didn't want to.

"You don't remember, do you?" he said.

My chest tightened.

"Remember what?"

He smiled slightly.

"Of course you don't."

"Stop talking in circles!" I snapped.

"Say it!"

A pause.

And then—

"You're not just part of what happened that night."

Silence.

"You're the reason it happened."

Everything broke.

"No…"

Emily stepped back.

"No, that's not true."

Noah looked at me.

Waiting.

Ryan…

Ryan didn't look surprised.

That was the worst part.

"What does he mean?" Noah asked.

I couldn't breathe.

Because now…

I wasn't sure anymore.

"I don't know," I whispered.

But deep down…

Something inside me did.

Something buried.

Something dangerous.

And then—

He said it.

The one thing that changed everything.

"You didn't just hurt me that night," he said.

My heart pounded.

"You destroyed my life before it even happened."

Silence.

Because now…

The past wasn't just one night.

It was something bigger.

Something deeper.

Something we hadn't even touched yet.

🖤 Poem — Lucas

I thought my sin

began that night

a moment lost

a single fight

but truth cuts deeper

than I knew

because the past…

began with you
