The silence between them lingered—
Until he moved.
Without a word, he removed his coat and placed it gently over her shoulders.
She froze for a second, surprised by the sudden warmth.
Her fingers held onto the fabric as she looked up at him, confusion clear in her eyes.
"W-what are you doing…?" she asked softly.
He didn't answer immediately.
His gaze stayed on her, calm but unreadable.
After a moment, he spoke.
"You don't seem comfortable here."
His voice was low, steady.
It wasn't a question.
She hesitated, unsure of what to say.
Before she could respond, he continued—
"You'll stay in my house," he added, his tone steady. "Where you won't have to deal with this anymore."
The room suddenly felt too small.
Too overwhelming.
"The owner said… no one can leave this place…" she said slowly, her voice barely steady. "Then how…?"
She stopped.
Because something clicked.
Her gaze lifted to his, realization slowly forming.
"You… did something, didn't you?" she asked, her voice quieter now.
There was a pause.
Then—
"I handled it," he replied simply.
Her heart skipped.
Handled it.
So easily said.
As if changing someone's life was nothing more than a small decision.
She stared at him, trying to understand.
"Why?" she asked.
That one word held everything—
Confusion.
Doubt.
Fear.
And something dangerously close to hope.
He stepped closer, his presence overwhelming as always, his shadow falling over her.
"Because you don't belong here," he said.
His voice was quieter now.
But stronger.
Final.
Her fingers tightened around the coat.
This wasn't freedom.
Not really.
Because the way he spoke—
The way he looked at her—
It didn't feel like she was being set free.
It felt like she was being taken somewhere else.
Somewhere unknown.
Something in his gaze darkened slightly as he looked at her again.
"From now on," he added, his tone calm but firm, "you're under my protection."
The words wrapped around her like invisible chains.
Not painful.
But impossible to ignore.
Her heart was beating too fast.
Because she didn't know what scared her more—
Staying here…
Or going with him.
But deep down—
A part of her had already chosen.
And that was the most dangerous thing of all.
