The alarms did not stop.
The sound echoed through the entire base making it impossible to ignore the danger that was approaching. Everyone stood in the control room staring at the screen where the energy readings kept rising again and again like something was pushing its limits.
Mira tried to stabilize the system but her voice showed tension as she said this is not normal it is increasing too fast. Adrian looked at the data carefully and said whatever is coming it is not like the last one. Rayan leaned forward and said this feels controlled. Leo asked controlled by who. No one answered. Elisa stood still her eyes fixed on the screen but her mind was somewhere else. That same feeling returned stronger this time like something was calling her or warning her.
Zoe noticed and asked what do you feel. Elisa replied quietly it is the same energy but deeper darker. Before anyone could react the screen suddenly glitched. For a second everything went black. Then a symbol appeared. It was strange and sharp shaped like a twisted mark almost like a creature itself. The room went silent as everyone stared at it. Jenny said okay that is definitely not normal.
Kevin stepped closer and said that symbol it feels familiar but I do not know why. Louis frowned and said I have never seen anything like this. Stebin crossed his arms and said whatever it is I do not like it.
Jake looked serious and said this is not random. Selene finally spoke her voice calm but heavy. This is a mark. Adrian looked at her and asked a mark of what. Selene replied a mark of something ancient. The symbol on the screen suddenly disappeared. And then the energy reading spiked even higher.
Mira said it has appeared again but in a different location. Rayan quickly marked the coordinates and said this time it is closer to the city. Leo looked worried and said if this reaches the city then people will get hurt. Elisa stepped forward and said then we stop it before that happens.
Jenny took a deep breath and said yeah no pressure at all. Stebin said we handled the last one we can handle this too. Kevin added we just need to stay focused. Louis nodded and Jake said and not hold back. Zoe looked at Elisa and said this is different. Elisa replied I know. But her expression did not change. Inside she could feel it clearly now.
This was not just another fight. This was connected to something bigger. Something that had already noticed them. As they prepared to leave the base Selene stopped Elisa for a moment. She looked at her carefully and said if the mark appears again you must be careful. Elisa asked why. Selene replied because marks like this do not appear without reason.
They choose. Elisa did not respond but she understood. Outside the sky looked darker than usual as if something unseen was spreading across it. The team moved together ready for their next mission but this time there was no excitement. Only tension. Only uncertainty. Far away the shadow watched again. The same symbol formed in the air slowly glowing with dark energy. A voice echoed softly.
The first step is complete. Back at the base the screen flickered one last time. And for a brief second the symbol appeared again. But this time it looked different. Stronger. Alive. The mark of the beast had been revealed. And the real danger had only just begun.
