The night was quiet, almost too quiet, when Elisa returned to her room in the base. The adrenaline from the second battle still pulsed through her veins, her hands shaking slightly from the strain of using so much power. She thought about the creature, how it had adapted during the fight, and the dark presence she had felt watching them even after it was gone. Something told her this was only the beginning.
As she entered her room, the lights flickered for a brief second. She froze, her instincts immediately alert. Something was off. Jenny had already gone to her room and Zoe preferred the quiet corner of the base where she meditated. Stebin, Kevin, Louis, and Jake were together in the training area, reviewing their fight. So this moment was hers alone. Then she saw it.
A small envelope on her desk. Nothing else in the room had moved, no signs of someone entering. The envelope was old, almost like parchment, and a strange symbol was drawn at the bottom. It was the same mark that had appeared during the fight, twisted and dark, almost alive. Elisa's heart skipped a beat.
She picked it up cautiously, her fingers brushing over the rough paper. She opened it slowly. Inside were only a few words, written in dark red ink:
"I am coming. Be ready."
Her pulse quickened. The message was simple, but the energy behind it was not. It felt cold and heavy, as if it had a presence of its own. She sensed power in those words, power that was not human.
Elisa knew she had to warn the others. She grabbed her communicator and called them immediately. Jenny answered first, her voice sleepy and annoyed, asking what was wrong. Elisa explained quickly, her tone tense. Zoe responded calmly but her eyes widened when Elisa showed her the symbol.
The six others gathered quickly in her room. Stebin clenched his fists as soon as he saw the letter. Kevin analyzed it carefully, noting the energy fluctuations surrounding it. Louis's jaw tightened, and Jake looked between them all silently, already preparing for action. Elisa held the letter firmly and said, "This isn't a joke. Whoever sent this knows us. They know what we can do. They're testing us, watching us, and now they're making their move."
Jenny gulped, trying to mask her fear with sarcasm, "So, basically, someone wants to ruin our lives again. Got it." Zoe's calm voice cut through the tension, "This isn't just a threat. It's a warning. They're not coming yet, but they will. And when they do, it will be different from anything we've faced."
Elisa nodded. She felt the weight of leadership pressing down on her shoulders. Her ring glowed faintly, responding to the danger in the message. She turned to the others and said, "We need to be ready. All of us. This is bigger than anything we've fought before. We need to train harder, move faster, and trust each other more than ever."
Stebin grinned, though it didn't reach his eyes, "Sounds like another day in paradise." Kevin frowned, "Paradise? More like a nightmare waiting to happen." Louis added, "Either way, we fight. Together." Elisa looked at them, each one of the seven guardians, and felt a spark of determination ignite inside her. She knew what she had to do.
Far away, in the shadows, the dark presence that had sent the letter watched her every movement, a faint smile forming as it whispered into the night, "Soon, Elisa Jung. Soon." The warning had been sent. The countdown had begun. And the guardians knew, without saying it aloud, that nothing would ever be the same again.
