The victory from their first mission did not last long. It stayed with them like a memory but something about it felt incomplete like it was only the beginning of something much bigger. The base was quiet that night but the silence felt heavier than before. Elisa could not sleep. She stood near the large window looking out into the darkness. Her reflection stared back at her but her mind was somewhere else. The moment from the fight kept replaying in her head the way the creature appeared the way it disappeared and the strange feeling it left behind.
It did not feel finished. Zoe walked in quietly and noticed Elisa standing there. She did not say anything at first then she asked you are thinking about it too. Elisa nodded slightly and said that was not just a random creature. Zoe agreed.
Meanwhile in another part of the base Jenny was sitting with Stebin Kevin Louis and Jake. Jenny said okay I am not going to lie that was scary. Stebin laughed and said you were doing fine. Jenny rolled her eyes and said I almost shocked myself more than the monster. Kevin looked serious and said something felt wrong about it. Louis nodded and said yeah it was not stable like it was not complete. Jake added like something bigger is coming.
The room went quiet after that. Back in the control room the scientists were already analyzing the data. Mira pointed at the screen and said this energy pattern is not normal. Adrian frowned and said it is growing. Rayan leaned forward and said which means that creature was just a fragment.
Leo looked worried and said a fragment of what. Selene answered quietly. Something stronger. Far away from the base deep inside a dark abandoned place something moved. The ground was cracked and the air was filled with a strange heavy presence. A shadow slowly formed taking shape but not fully revealing itself.
Its eyes opened. Dark and glowing. A low voice echoed in the emptiness. They have awakened. The shadow moved slightly as if observing something far away. A symbol appeared faintly in the darkness the same symbol that would soon change everything. Back at the base Elisa suddenly felt something.
A sharp wave of energy passed through her. She held her hand tightly as her ring glowed faintly. Zoe noticed and asked what happened. Elisa looked forward and said it is coming.
At the same moment alarms started ringing in the base. Everyone rushed toward the control room. Mira said the energy spike is back but this time it is stronger much stronger. Adrian looked at the screen and said this is not like before. Rayan said whatever this is it is evolving. Jenny walked in and said can someone explain why alarms are going crazy. Kevin looked at the screen and said because something big is about to happen.
Stebin stepped forward and said then we stop it. Louis nodded and said together. Jake said this time we will be ready. Selene looked at all of them and said no this time it will test all of you. Elisa stepped forward her expression calm but serious. She said then we will not fail. The others looked at her. And for the first time they truly felt it. A leader. A protector. A guardian.
Far away the shadow slowly smiled. The game had just begun.
