"This sanatorium actually has such terrifying monsters. Perhaps the missing travelers were taken by this masked man, but why would he do such a thing?" Reporter Alyssa felt very puzzled.
"He might be eating them himself or feeding something. Have you noticed that the plants here are very lush, growing into the house? This building itself should have collapsed, but it's being supported by these vines," Eddie said, frowning.
"Are you very knowledgeable about architecture?" Alyssa was a little surprised.
"No, but it's obvious. This kind of house is like those abandoned buildings, overgrown with weeds, they're all dangerous structures!" Eddie offered another reason. He would never tell anyone that he knew everything that happened in Raccoon City!
"Then let's continue searching. The truth about the Arklay Mountains disappearance must be here!" Jill picked up her gun and continued forward. As soon as she opened the door, she saw a zombie hiding behind it.
Quick-eyed and quick-handed, Jill directly delivered a flying kick that sent the zombie flying. Her delicate finger pulled the trigger, and a bullet pierced directly through the zombie's skull, completing the kill!
"There are so many living dead here. What on earth made them like this?" Rebecca felt a little unbearable. As the youngest member of the squad, she couldn't quickly adapt to the harsh combat.
"Watch out!" Eddie pulled Rebecca back just as the ceiling suddenly collapsed, and a giant scorpion appeared! It blocked the middle, with Jill and reporter Alyssa behind it.
Rebecca felt like she had walked back from the gates of hell; she almost died!
"Why didn't you let her offer herself to you?" Svetlana asked with resentment.
"Haha, wasn't I just joking? I've been watching a lot of TV dramas recently, and they all have this kind of plot," Eddie chuckled. He had the heart but not the guts.
Svetlana's words, however, made Rebecca a little embarrassed. These people really were something, joking at a time like this.
Clang! Jill raised her gun and attacked, but the bullets bounced off the scorpion's shell! This was very troublesome. With its sturdy shell, scorpions are already difficult to deal with, and after being infected with the T-Virus, they are even more so.
Its pincers, comparable to millstones, could snap twenty-centimeter-thick steel, and the poisonous stinger at its tail—one sting would likely result in instant death!
Jill's attack enraged the scorpion, and it turned to face her. Jill quickly pulled Alyssa aside, dodging the scorpion's attack.
Tat-tat-tat! Eddie and Svetlana simultaneously picked up their submachine guns. "Shoot its tail, it's weaker there!" Svetlana decisively began to attack.
Compared to its hard shell, the scorpion's tail indeed had little carapace protection, making it one of its few weak points.
The powerful submachine gun fire formed a metal barrage. Svetlana's marksmanship was superb; even with the scorpion's tail stinger constantly thrashing, she managed to hit every single bullet onto its tail without waste.
Bang! After enduring dozens of submachine gun bullets, the giant scorpion's tail was directly severed. Foul-smelling blood splattered, corroding the old floor into small pits.
"Jill, you two get back! I'm going to give this monster a surprise with a rocket launcher!" Eddie shouted. Villains die from talking too much, so he wouldn't waste words; he'd just give the opponent a direct shot and be done with it. There was no monster that a rocket launcher couldn't solve!
Jill's heart tightened. Although she didn't know why her boyfriend would have such a powerful weapon as a rocket launcher, she obediently pulled freelance reporter Alyssa into a nearby room to take cover.
Whoosh! Eddie took the rocket launcher from his back, loaded a grenade, and fired a shot.
The flying rocket was directly clamped by the giant scorpion's iron pincers, the flames from its tail scorching the scorpion's shell. Meanwhile, Eddie pulled Svetlana and Rebecca into another room, turned, and fired a pistol shot.
The bullet accurately hit the rocket, and boom! A huge sound erupted, causing even parts of the building to collapse. The giant scorpion was blown to pieces, and some plants were also burned!
Rumble! As if feeling pain, the entire abandoned sanatorium, supported by plants, began to shake.
Wesker, searching alone in the underground drug storage room, knew from his time as a researcher at Umbrella that institutions connected with Umbrella often hid secrets in their basements.
Thud! A charred figure fell from above, landing directly in front of Wesker. Startled, Wesker quickly drew his gun to attack, only to find it was a burnt human. Looking at the deep pit in the ceiling, how many floors did this person fall from? Was it some unlucky team member?
Trickle, trickle. The surrounding plant vines began to gather, and before Wesker noticed, his foot was entangled and he was dragged into the room. He drew his dagger, and with a swift motion, cut the vines.
Wesker escaped the secret room. In his view, these strange plants seemed to be mutated biological weapons, plants infected with the T-Virus.
After the masked man was reabsorbed by the plants, his burnt injuries began to recover. In a few minutes, utilizing the powerful regenerative abilities of the T-Virus, he resumed combat, picking up an axe left in the basement and restarting his pursuit. This time, his target was Wesker!
Wesker felt extremely unlucky. He snorted coldly on the surface, picked up his pistol, and began to fight.
The members of the S.T.A.R.S. were dispersed everywhere, too late to provide support. Everyone was fighting mutated mosquitoes, almost the size of human heads, exceptionally terrifying. Bullfrogs, bees, crows—the infected biological weapons were countless!

Chapter 42: Is the Villain the Director?
"Everyone, gather in the basement. I found something very strange." Wesker had no choice but to use the radio for help. He was being chased miserably by the invulnerable axe-wielding man. The basement was very narrow, requiring extreme focus every time.
Furthermore, the infected axe-wielding man seemed to have lost his mind, attacking recklessly without regard for consequences. Bullets hitting his body were completely absorbed by his soft skin, causing him no harm at all.
Eddie, on the rooftop, heard Wesker's urgent voice, guessing he was being chased. He never thought Wesker would have such a day!
"Eddie, what are you snickering about?" Rebecca asked, puzzled.
Svetlana, however, snorted, "He's probably laughing about when you'll offer yourself to him. He often tells me that."
"Oh, what nonsense are you talking about?" Rebecca was embarrassed again. How could it be that if someone saved you, you had to offer yourself to him?
"Hey, hey, ladies, I already said it's a TV drama plot, it's a joke, don't take it so seriously. Let's go, we still have things to do. When we get there, I'll treat you to a coffee shop, and we can chat slowly." Eddie didn't want to go back and kneel on a washboard. Sometimes a joke is just a joke.
After circling around, they reunited with Jill and reporter Alyssa, and the group decided to head to the basement. As they passed a room, Alyssa stopped. "Wait, this is the sanatorium director's residence. I wonder if he might have a diary here."
"Then let's look for it," Eddie nodded. He personally didn't like to record his life in this way. Why write a diary? What if someone peeked at it?
"Found it!" Rebecca retrieved an old book from a broken display case. Without looking, she handed it to Eddie, seemingly subconsciously making him the leader.
Eddie took the notebook and looked at it. "This guy bought a drug from a mysterious company, collected in Europe. His wife contracted an incurable disease, probably similar to cancer. He tried to use this drug to treat his wife, but it failed."
"And then?" Rebecca was a little curious.
Reporter Alyssa, even more so, recalled something, her beautiful eyes fixed intently on Eddie.
"Then the director discovered his wife was getting hungrier and hungrier, eating everything, even uncooked meat. Sometimes she would even attack the staff here, but these incidents were suppressed. It was only after Alyssa came to interview that, after the interview, the sanatorium also closed down due to complaints." Eddie finished speaking, closed the notebook, and handed it to the others to read.
Everyone looked at it for a while; even Svetlana picked up the diary and read it for a bit.
Alyssa thought for a moment and said, "Do you think this drug caused the director's wife to turn into some kind of monster, and then all these things happened? I think that axe-wielding man seems to be intentionally hunting us."
"You mean that's the director's wife?" Rebecca asked, startling everyone.
Jill was reloading her magazine. "Probably not. That masked man should be a man. I think if we keep investigating, we'll probably find out what's going on."
"What's certain now is that the director bought a mysterious drug from a mysterious company, which led to this incident. The specifics still need to be investigated," Eddie nodded.
"Isn't Umbrella the biggest pharmaceutical company?" Alyssa suddenly stared at Eddie.
"Don't look at me, I'm just an employee, how would I know? Even I, someone who researches diet pills, know there's also Shenya Pharmaceutical, Tricell Pharmaceutical, Weimar Pharmaceutical, and so on." Eddie wanted no connection with Umbrella.
"I trust Eddie, he's my boyfriend, and he's saved us," Jill spoke up for her boyfriend.
"I'm not doubting him, he's a good person, I can tell. I just remembered that a colleague of mine died tragically here, and I must find the truth!" Alyssa turned her head. A woman's intuition can be terrifying.
"Alright, ladies, we can discuss this slowly later. It's not convenient to talk in this eerie environment." Eddie shook his head. He wasn't afraid of others investigating. Besides, his plan was to be friends with Alyssa. Alyssa had some fame in the news industry, and she could help him clear his name later.
By the time Eddie and the others arrived at the first-floor lobby, the vine-sealed walls had been blown open. Wesker and Enrico were entangled in a fight with the axe-wielding masked man. In the middle of the lobby, a giant spore plant was wielding lifelike vines, engaging in battle with the rest of the group.
