The nurse waved at her and informed her of the situation. Right now, it was break time for all the specialist doctors so Madeline had to give the doctor a call before taking the elevator to check if now was a convenient time for him.
"Doctor Anthony, it's me Madeline, Caroline's daughter. I am currently at the hospital and want to see you for a consultation. She spoke immediately the phone connected.
Anthony laughed "little Maddy, it's been a while, I am currently not at the hospital but don't worry, I already transferred your file to my apprentice and also informed your family about it. Nobody told you anything?" he inquired.
Maddy paused before asking "No...how long has this been ?"
"About a year, just about the time you got married. What's wrong?
"It's nothing, what's the name of your apprentice again?
"Oh… his name is Adam. He worked with me for about 3 years before I left so don't worry he is good at his job. Anthony replied with a chuckle.
"Thank you" she replied with a smile. And Doctor Anthony what illness did my mother have that is transmittable?"
Doctor Anthony stammered before feigning a cough and quickly announcing "Madeline I have to go let's talk some other time.
Madeline squinted her eyes at his attempt to cover up his lies affirming one thing. Her mother Caroline didn't have any illnesses, at least not one that was transmittable.
She headed straight to the office after the phone call. She didn't except to see anyone waiting as Doctor Anthony usually had the whole floor to himself but there was a young nurse blocking the door. She was biting her nails and stamping her feet in agitation.
"Excuse me Miss, you can not be here. Doctor Adam is currently on his afternoon break. You can see another specialist or wait for him downstairs" The young nurse tried to force a smile immediately she saw Madeline as she spoke.
Madeline calmly glanced at her but paid no attention to her. She directly moved past her to knock on the examination room door.
The young nurse suddenly stretched her hand out to swat away Madeline hand. "Doctor Adam is not seeing any patient today, please leave".
Madeline raised an eyebrow but calmly and nicely explained "Excuse me, I came to find Doctor Adam to discuss something. I was referred to by Doctor Anthony.
The nurse heard her last few words and instantly moved to block the door. She pressed the already shut door even more tightly, her eyes full of wariness. "Referred to by Doctor Anthony my foot…that's a nice way to put it. That old man is gone but still wouldn't let go, you are here to spy on Doctor Adam are you not. I am telling there is nothing to see here just go back.
Initially, Madeline did not plan on taking offense from this young nurse who she didn't know, she also did not pay much attention to her. However, she was in a rush to place all the missing pieces of this situation together and find out who instructed this doctor. Now that this nurse was constantly blocking her way, she was somewhat unhappy.
She glanced indifferently at the girl who appeared pleased with herself "I had no intention of reporting back to Doctor Antony but with you blocking the door like this, I am suddenly so curious as to what is going on in there and I am sure Doctor Anthony would be very curious too".
The young nurse was shocked speechless as she stammered to explain herself… if Doctor Anthony heard what happened today, she wasn't sure she could keep her job.
Just then, the examination room door opened. The doctor looked suprised to see Madeline but quickly offered a smile "Miss Myers, sorry for the trouble I didn't know you were coming. I was having a little break and asked her to guard the door as I didn't want to see any patient... I hope she didn't cause much trouble?"
Just then, a woman stepped out of the examination room. She was fully clothed in designers and a sparkling diamond bracelet sat exquisitely on her wrist. She looked at Madeline, her eyes showing some recognition but she said nothing as she walked away gracefully.
Adam quickly rushed to explain "That's the Quinn's family last daughter Elsa. She came for a quick consultation and I could not say no".
Madeline had no words at his explanation, she calmly looked at him and sneered "Your flier is open" before stepping into the examination room.
Doctor Adam "..."
He blushed from embarrassment before glaring at the young nurse and closing the door.
Madeline didn't beat about the bush, she brought out the drug from her bag immediately and asked "I spoke to doctor Anthony, few days back and he didn't prescribe this drug for me. Why did you?"
Adam's eyes widened slightly as he took the drug "There must have been a mix up somehow. Have you taken any? Though this drug is not harmful, it's not something you should take now.
Madeline watched his performance with a smile. She caught the slight confusion on his face when he saw her at his door, when she brushed past him, his heart rate accelerated. And now, his attempt to feign ignorance about this drug issue was all exposed but she still played along.
"What's the drug for exactly?"
"Oh it's like a miracle drug. It helps you sleep, makes your body more active… it's like a stimulation... but the good kind".
Madeline nodded like she was following, so he continued "Miss Myers, this was a mix up on our part but this drug is not harmful in the slightest way and I think it's good for someone in your line of work. Working tirelessly around the clock."
"So basically, it's not harmful and it has nothing to do with my knees which has been acting up? Sj asked in return.
Adam froze for a slight moment "Of course not… I am a doctor who swore an oath, I would not prescribe something that's harmful. He spoke with so much anger as someone trying to protect his dignity at all cost "if you don't believe me Miss Myers, take it to any hospital or research facility for testing… but if the result comes back as said then you would have to apologise to me Miss Myers.
Madeline suddenly let out a laugh. Standing up, she walked around the table to his side before sitting on his table her hands grabbing his tie playfully "and… how am I going to apologize to you… doctor …
