The next day during lunch, Sharon sat alone, replaying the moment in the library.
What was he going to say?
Her thoughts were interrupted when she saw Dylan across the courtyard.
He was standing with Kayla.
They were laughing.
Talking closely.
At one point, Kayla lightly touched his arm.
Sharon felt something twist in her chest.
Mia sat down beside her. "What's wrong?"
"Nothing," Sharon said quickly.
Mia followed her gaze.
"Oh…"
"What?" Sharon asked.
"That's Kayla," Mia said. "They used to be close."
Sharon's stomach dropped slightly.
"They look close now," she muttered.
Mia glanced at her. "Why do you care?"
"I don't," Sharon said, looking away.
But she did.
More than she wanted to admit.
