Mathew patted Jasmine's head again.
"I am very happy for you both."
I watched her talk happily with Mathew quietly. My arms were folded lightly across my chest, and for the first time that day, I felt my body slowly relaxing. The tension that had filled my chest since the accident was beginning to ease, although my heart still felt heavy from everything that had happened.
Jasmine looked brighter now. The color had slowly returned to her cheeks, and the excitement in her voice filled the room with warmth that had been missing earlier.
"I finally have a dad," she said again happily while looking at Mathew.
Mathew placed one hand dramatically over his chest and made a fake sad face.
"Oh no," he said while pouting. "Now that you have found your father, you will forget your poor uncle Mathew."
Jasmine immediately shook her head strongly.
"No," she said firmly.
Mathew raised an eyebrow at her.
"No?" he asked.
